Tying Good Affinities With More People
Through An International Book Fair

When planning the decorating, fellow initiates found that they were short of materials. Despite searching everywhere, they could not buy what they needed because it was a holiday, and shops were closed. Having no option, they decided to decorate part of the exhibiting booth in the meantime. When they reached the venue, they found that the fair convener had prepared bookshelves for each booth. Therefore, the decorating materials that they had were just enough! So, besides saving money, they also realized that Master had made the best and most appropriate arrangements even in the most trivial aspects.

Master's big photo was placed at the front of the exhibiting booth, so that every visitor would be blessed by Her compassionate eyes.

When a commercial publisher turned the pages of Master's books, he kept praising the excellent printing quality which really intrigued him. He repeatedly suggested to the fellow initiates to have the books printed in bulk in Japan, so that more people could discover Master's teachings.

A scholar researching religions asked many questions about Master's teachings. After appreciating Master's books, the prints of Her paintings and video, he commented that Master's contribution to humanity had far exceeded that of religious traditions, and She is indeed a great Enlightened Master of our time.

An Au Lac student immediately recognize the Au Lac sample booklet among the rows of books. He was very happy and excited to find something connected with his homeland in another country. Knowing that Master is also from Au Lac, has many disciples following Her teachings throughout the world, and was widely loved and venerated, this student promised to visit the Center in Tokyo as soon as the Book Fair ended.

The sample booklets, News magazines and fliers that the fellow practitioners had prepared could not meet the demand due to the large number of visitors coming on the weekend. With inspiration, they hurriedly put the contact telephone number in the lower left corner of the flyer and made copies. To their amazement, people immediately started to read the fliers when they received one, many were interested in Master's teachings and ask fellow initiates for further information. Lacking sample booklets and News magazines, fellow practitioners changed their strategy to talking more with visitors; they received warm responses.

Japanese fellow initiates spread Master's teachings at an International Book Fair, thus many members of the public were able to tie good affinities with Master.

People in our world suffer because at this time, in this lifetime, we do not exert our best efforts to learn to help ourselves, to accomplish our missions, and to work out our karma of this time around. We always want to run away, but we can not get away even though we want to. Then we have to come back next time, when our lessons will be harder, and the interest will have increased.

Be Relaxed For Better Results

We used to concentrate our attention on that kind of competition, and so we were blind, not smart enough. The more anxious a person is, the more he struggles. The more he fights, the worse he is in anything he does. On the contrary, now that we do not want to do or simply go about something casually, we do it well. The logic is very simple. It is because we are relaxed; our minds are not so eager to fight. Then suddenly our natural intelligence and wisdom emerge. The more relaxed we are, the better we will be in what we do.

Face Yourself Honestly

Most people in the world like to have face; they protect their egos and do not deal with their faults impartially. However, if we did not deal with ourselves, then who could be more just than we? Even people from outside, Master or fellow practitioners can only tell you by words. They can not watch us all the time. We have to learn to be just. Only then could we speak impartially to others, and only then could others listen to us.

The more we think of God, the more at ease we become. Then, whether we think or not it's the same, because we have merged with Hirm. Only under such a situation can one be called being in Zen, whether one is moving, living, sitting, or lying. By then we have attained the Tao; we no longer have to make any effort. Even though we do not make any effort, we gain a lot. At present, even if we exert great efforts, we only gain very little. It is because we are still struggling.

Be A Super Cosmic Being

Fortunately, in a dream, I got a great revelation: if we break through the barriers of time and space, and use the vision of a futuristic being to view the current difficulties and setbacks we are now facing, we will find that the problems we face are not as important as we had imagined. These problems are not worthy of the energy we put into them, and us abandoning other things which we really should attend to. In particular, we should remember that only spiritual practice is the key to accumulating energy for the future. In the future, when we look back on the current time, it will be like viewing a historical documentary. Our future is unlimited, so why should we confine ourselves to the limited time and space of the current world?

Based on this revelation, I think we fellow practitioners should practice diligently, and be united in exerting ourselves to become future super cosmic beings to be a contribution to ourselves and the entire universe.

Master's Divine Love Heals All!

It was very cold and rainy throughout the retreat. Coping with this kind of weather is difficult for me, so I reminded myself not to complain nor pray to Master for any physical comfort, lest She would have to bear it for all of us.

One day, I experienced a severe migraine. I threw up and could not meditate. I constantly recited the holy names and gave myself some encouragement. At lunch time, I dragged myself to the kitchen area to get some warm tea and watch Master's video in Chinese. Though I could not understand the language, I strongly sensed Her divine love electrifying my body, filling it with energy.

Suddenly, I thought about my husband: how kindly he treats me, and how repeatedly ungrateful I have been to him -- something he didn't deserve. I felt this way before, but only now it was a deeper, true repentance with love flowing in my heart. I felt the power to change.

Master's love choked me to tears and reminded me of my only prayer at the beginning of the retreat. In seconds, the pounding headache surprisingly subsided to almost nothing.

That evening, Master said that when our body is sick, we transcend. From my own experience, physical illness is a blessing for us.

Helping Au Lac People Under Humanitarian Protection In U.S.A.

The Love Message

This year, upon Master's instruction, fellow practitioners of the Los Angeles Center again were more than ready to render help to this little community, especially during the traditional New Year festival. The program was launched immediately. With the help of the H.O. Association the most needy Au Lac H.O. people were located. Hundreds of items such as preserved fruit, cakes, tea, candies and items for the New Year festival, along with Master's publications were given to these families.

Groups of fellow practitioners happily visited each family and chatted with them while bringing to them Master's love and concern, and sharing with them the wisdom of enlightenment. Approached by the fellow practitioners with warm love and affection, many felt surprised and deeply touched.

One man who had been long abandoned by his family members, including his dear wife, was found living alone in a rundown garage. Upon hearing about Master's help, he was so excited that he kept the garage door wide open since early morning waiting for our fellow practitioners to stop by. When meeting us, he said that he didn't purposely wait for the material help to come, but rather it was Master's omnipresent power and great love that he had longed for for years. He also commented that, since he had shown great interest in Master for a long time, it must be God who sent us to meet him with an important message for him.

Some people expressed their exhilarating joy upon receiving Master's gifts by declaring "Supreme Master Ching Hai is number one" with their thumbs up. An elderly man, who had been imprisoned in various re-education camps in Au Lac for many years, said with a shaken voice and tears in his eyes that no one had ever treated him so well, not even members of the big church in the area.

The H.O. Association working staff also received special gift bags from Master to thank them for helping the Au Lac H.O. people and their families who came to this country to start a new life after many years of suffering in the camps. Some staff members were even receiving Master's News magazine monthly, and they expressed their sincere longing to meet Master some day.

Fellow practitioners in San Jose, California preparing New Year gifts for the Au Lac families under the H.O. Program

At the beginning, the plan was simply to distribute gifts to those who needed them without any announcement on radio or in the newspaper. We tried different ways to get a list of these families through many agencies without success.

Finally, one day after learning of our goodwill one radio station offered to run a free announcement the whole day. One of the biggest Au Lac newspapers in San Jose, after noticing our wish, also agreed to put our announcement in their weekend edition. Thanks to Master's blessing, we suddenly got many responses.

As soon as the announcement was made the phone lines never stopped ringing. Our fellow practitioners were busy jotting down all of the callers' requests, so we could buy supplies or gifts according to their needs. In a short period of time, hundreds of families called in.

The gifts were: rice, cookies, preserved fruit and tea. We also offered more items such as electrical rice cookers, blankets, warm clothes and others. For those who expressed their interest in Master's teachings and poems on the phone, we prepared Her books, News magazines and CDs of Her Wu Tzu Poems.

The distribution took place at a San Jose Park Hall which has been used by an Au Lac Kung-fu Association to teach its students. The association leader sacrificed her teaching hour and allowed us to use this facility. Their students even performed a beautiful dragon dance to greet our guests -- the Au Lac H.O. families. The atmosphere changed into more cheerful New Years day.

In addition to the families on the list, towards the end of the event, some other families also came as they heard about the news. Gifts were also given to them. They were distributed indoors, and there were bags of fragrant rice heaped high in the square outside which were also distributed to the Au Lac compatriots.

Most people were surprised to have received so many New Year gifts, and they said that, ever since they came to the United States, they had never been received with such compassion as from Master, nor had they met any groups as easygoing and cheerful as the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association.

Although the sky was getting dark, and the lights in the park were switched on, many people still lingered behind to ask more about Master's teachings. From their happy faces, we could see that their soul must have received Master's divine love, and they were bathing in the ocean of love of this enlightened Master born in Au Lac. (Gifts were brought the next day to the homes of families that were late or couldn't get to the park due to lack of transportation.)

Homesick

On my way back to Japan from the Ching Hai Day 4-Day Retreat,
I could not hold back my longing and affection for You, Master. So, I wrote
this on the train as a dedication to You, my dear revered Master.

          I am on my way back to the mundane world,
          Soon to return to the tiring
          Relationships among people.
          Yet my heart
          Is tightly tied to Yours, Master!

          Holding onto what You bestowed upon me when I left,
          The precious token of Your blessings,
          Tears suddenly emerged,
          My sight was blurred...

          My body and my heart are shaking,
          Feeling the pain that departing lovers suffer.
          A vision emerge of Your voice and countenance,
          But at this time I have only droplets of silent tears.

          Oh! On the journey of life,
          I have to carry on running.
          Yet, once again, I am not able to part with 
        You, Master;
          I can no longer hide my homesickness within.

Anyhow, is this too serious? Should I crack a few jokes first? I don't know much about Hawaiian jokes, and the jokes I already told you yesterday about my apartment next to the highway due to my disciples' recession in our travelling budget, you heard already. Probably you read the newspapers and have heard that there is a recession everywhere in this world now, due to economical problems. Therefore, they also recessed my budget for travelling. (Master laughs.) Everywhere they rent a cheaper room even if it is on the edge of the highway. (Master laughs.)

Well, I pretend to be a very "highly developed" person, (laughter) and I hear nothing from the outside world. But that naturally provides plenty of lights and sounds. The lights from the cars at midnight, and the sounds of continuous traffic. You can pretend that it is the sea wave sound, and it's also amusing sometimes. It's okay.

Meanwhile I can also listen to the sounds inside, by a special technique. Therefore even if I live next to the highway, it doesn't affect much our spiritual practice. So a special technique is also very necessary, similar to a special diet.

Everything Is God's Will

It's not that we try to tell you what to do. It's just that some of the ancient Masters have had experiences in experimenting with what is the best way for us to reach God, to reach the Supreme Master, which is within all of us. It is the Master of all Masters. Without this Supreme Master's guidance, we do not know why we are here, and what we should do. And whenever we do something, we never can be sure whether it is correct or not. It's not that we don't want to do correct things, it's just that sometimes or most of the time we do not know what is God's will, or what is the proper action to take in different circumstances. Therefore we make mistakes.

We have heard that everything is God's will. Even a hair falling down from our head is according to the Lord's pre-arrangement. But then why do we have to suffer for what we do? As the Bible says, As you sow, so shall you reap. Isn't that paradoxical? Isn't that too unfair for us? Well, it isn't.

It is unfair in one way and not in the other. Unfair because if everything is God's will, why should we be punished for the things that we do? But it is fair because God has given us a way to overcome all these fearsome, so-called punishments.

It's just that we do not know how to use it or maybe we do not want to use it, because life after life we have been used to the so-called easy way. We do what we feel like doing at that moment, we live our life according to the dictates of our habits and the collected information that we have through our eyes, ears, nose, touch, etc. We have forgotten God's commandments.

Many of the people ask me, "Why do we have to practice? Why do we have to sit in meditation?" Actually we don't need to sit, we can lay down just as well to meditate. But then when we lay down, we are just down! You know? Lay and down! (Laughter) Instead of hearing the inside sounds; we might hear the outside sound- snoring sound! (Laughter) Instead of seeing the vision of God or heaven, we see all kinds of dreams, nightmares sometimes, that trouble us when we wake up.

Therefore when we sit, there is less chance of going to sleep. Even if you do sleep, you will fall down on the floor and then wake up immediately. At least you can sleep maybe five or ten minutes, and the rest you meditate.

There is a difference between sleeping and waking visions. When we sleep, sometimes we have visions of dreams which are very useful for our daily lives; or maybe it predicts something in the future and prepares us for some events which we may be able to avoid, should it be unpleasant, or to amend, should it be a little bit grave for us. These are the dreams which are sometimes true. But very seldom people have the ability to analyze the dreams and make use of them in their lives.

What is it that makes people sleep and dream these dreams so useful, predicting something in the near future or some true events? It is because when we sleep sometimes our soul gets in touch with the source of our knowledge and peacefulness. Then sometimes the mind at that time is not truly asleep, therefore it can register some of the information that we have gathered in the store room of wisdom. When we wake up, we still remember it. Otherwise, most of the time we just remember vaguely that we had dreamed; but we don't know, we can't remember the details of the dreams. So if we bring this sleeping information into the waking state, it would be more useful.

To meditate is to sleep but in a wakeful state. Then all the information we have gathered within the store house of wisdom, we can see clearly, consciously, and know what is what. That's why an enlightened person is wiser, happier, content; because he knows what to do, and then the subconscious mind also has all the information open to it to know even the past lives and the future events.

But that is just a between state, it's not the highest state even, you will be surprised to hear. When you reach the highest state, you go back to ignorance. (Master laughs.) Is that very disappointing? Oh! Don't worry, but this is a different one!

There are two kinds of ignorance. One is the ignorant ignorance, and the other is the saintly ignorance. Both look the same but are not! It's just like scientifically we all know that two extremes look alike. For example, very intense darkness or very great light we both can not see. In the extreme darkness, we don't see any light; or in the extremely high frequency of light, we also can not see the light. So both look like darkness, but it is not so.

The light inside the light of the extreme intelligence is without shadow and substance, that's why we can hardly see it with our eyes. Even sometimes we see it with the wisdom which doesn't need an eye, we still feel like it hurts our physical eyes. But then afterwards we will be used to it; it will feel like when we are looking into very ordinary daylight, and it won't hurt anymore.

The Sage Looks Like The Ignorant

Some of the people asked me yesterday what is it like when you go into the samadhi state? He asked me whether the highest level is when you become nothing, you are not aware of your body, not aware of your environment and all that.

It is not even the highest state. In the highest state you are able to function in your daily life just as ordinary beings while having a super awareness surpassing that of the mind computer, of all things that are going on in the universe.

Therefore your mind might not know about it and therefore you look like an ignorant person. But everything is done at the level of soul consciousness, universal consciousness. And every being who thinks of you, who prays to you, and who needs your help, you will be able to help them, to hear them, to see them, to tackle their problems accordingly without the interference of the mind.

The mind, is just like a computer only. Even if we use the mind, it's not that great, it's limited. We can't be all pervading, omnipresent, etc.

The sage looks like the ignorant, it's like that; and the sage could be always in sahmadi. It means in the absolute state; he doesn't look like it. It's not necessary that someone always sit there, cross legged and unmindful or unaware of everything going on, always in a blissful trance within himself.

Not necessarily is he the greatest sage or has he the highest attainment. If he is not yet able to function within our worldly life as a normal being, then he has not yet arrived at the highest level. But then that's what makes it difficult for us to realize who is the highest one and who is not.

Normally we have the conception of a sage or yogi sitting in the Himalayas and not moving at all, like a piece of lifeless stone or something. It must not be so. Of course if an enlightened person has nothing to do, then he would sit in meditation, read books, just walk around or do anything - cooking, running, sitting, or standing, cross legged or not cross legged. This has nothing to do with the state inside of a person.

In our way of practice it is difficult to detect. Suppose a highly developed person sits next to you right now. Probably yesterday or just before he came here, he had a very high vision of the Lord or high revelation of some kind, but then now he just sits next to you and you do not know, do not see him as such.

Even though we may feel the very harmonious atmosphere which generates from that person, most often if we do not pay attention, we may not even notice; we just feel good but we don't know why. You might think today I am happy; my body is healthy; or I ate sausage, it was very nutritious, or something that makes me feel good. It's not necessary so.

Therefore in our daily lives if we truly look for God, we can see Hierm anywhere. I may report to you that in this age of much trouble and disaster we also have great hope because God has ordained many saints to come to our world. And the messages are almost identical -- that is, we should seek the kingdom of God first, then everything else will fall into place.

Normally we try to take care of the worldly problems first. We take things into our hands, we try to run the universe. But we always feel very disappointed because even the best leader in the political field can only satisfy people temporarily, and bring them some kind of material comfort. We can not take care of the whole world by just our political skill or any other ability, and that's the problem. It doesn't matter how good our intention may be. It is because we have to first seek the Kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God means this Supreme power within us. We have connection with it, that's why it is said God made man in his own image. Image doesn't mean our profile, our body or our way of life. It is the image of the invisible, universal power that we are made of. Therefore the creative power and destructive power are also within ourselves.

Most of the time we see disasters come from heaven, for example, earthquakes or anything else. They destroy a lot of houses, many things, many lives; and then we think that's terrible! How terrible! How could God do this to mankind? But it was not as terrible as when we dropped an atom bomb, and the effect was longer lasting. More lives have been destroyed in wars than in any disasters. Is that not so? (Audience: Yes.)

Make Good Use Of The Constructive And Destructive Power

So if we stop to think about it, most of the disasters are brought upon ourselves by our own misunderstandings, misuse of the power of God. God has given us the constructive power and the destructive power for different uses; we should destroy what we need to destroy, and we should build what has to be built. But sometimes we use them in the wrong direction, it is because we do not know the better way. Because we are not illuminated by the light of wisdom.

It is very simple to find God. It is very simple to know ourselves. The only thing which stands in the way is our own ego, our own preconceived ideas about what to do, about what God is and how to find God. Actually we are endowed with this power, and it is no big deal to find it.

If we have something in our pocket, is it difficult to get it out? No. If I have these beads on my neck, is it difficult to give them or to show them to you? No, it isn't! It's just that because our attention is always wondering around looking at lamps, seeking things, and all that, we forget what we have.

Therefore I say immediate enlightenment because it is there already. It's just a matter of turning the attention to where it is, instead of turning the attention to all over the place. Why do we have to turn the attention to this power? Because without this, we can't work properly, we make a mess of our world, of our life and of everything we have a good intention to accomplish. That's why the world is as it is today.

Thousand, billion, trillions of years and we have not advanced to the civilization standard of other planets. For example, other people have UFO's, we don't. It's alright to envy the neighbor who has the Mercedes or Rolls Royce. Why don't we envy the neighboring planet for UFO's? It would be a faster and higher aspiration. Now other planets have UFO's for sale. If the price is reasonable... It's just we can't get there to buy them and they wouldn't dare come here to sell them. (Laughter)

Some of the planet businessmen are very eager to come here to establish their enterprises with our earthly people, and to teach us higher technology; but they dare not come. What with the polluted air of our Earth, they would die when they landed. We would probably rob them before they'd have a chance to open their mouths to talk about a deal. Or we might shoot them because we'd think they were invaders. We doubt everyone except our own ignorance. That's the trouble with us.

Now with all the money we have spent making rockets, trying to go the Mars and all that without success, we could buy UFO's; because on other planets, the materials are cheaper, and more durable than ours on Earth. For example, the diamonds there are in big blocks. So if you want to wear diamonds all over your body it's fine. It is not necessary that we buy just a piece like this and it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some good ones cost a lot of money; but, on these kinds of planets they use diamonds to make UFOs, because they are more durable when they are in contact with the atmosphere. When it's rubbing with the air, if the substance is not durable enough it will break.

Sometimes their techniques also have trouble, some of the first ones broke down, a long time ago. We have read in the newspapers that we have found pieces of these broken down vehicles and some of the fragments of the beings there. Maybe these was one being that was kind of robot anyhow. Other planets are more technologically advanced because they are more in touch with their wisdom.

We thought that Jesus and Buddha died and then disappeared into Nirvana; it is not the truth. We can contact Jesus and Buddha if we have the ability to do so and if we can locate where they are. What dies? Just the fleshly clothes. I wear this cloth, and after some years it will become decayed and fall into pieces, become dust again. Similarly our body is just a kind of different fabric. It decays a little bit, the decaying process is longer and just gives a different smell, that's all.

It is not we who die, therefore when we say so-called living -- we move, we talk, we love each other, we can feel each other's feelings. When we so-call die, the body is still the same, the brain is still there, and everything is intact; but still we can't move, can't feel anything through the body at all. The body just lays there just like a discarded garment of no use. That is because the real we, the real I just got out of it.

Similarly in the meditation practice we come and go into the body at will, just like when we take off the clothing that we wear and change into another or put it back on when we come back. It's very easy, therefore children can do it.

Children do it even better because they are not so complicated, do not have confused preconceptions about what it is like, what it is not like, about God and whatever. Everything they think is pure and simple.

Therefore if we turn into a child, we can experience God faster. It is very simple to say I turned into a child and I experienced God, but it is not easy to do so if we don't know how. It is very simple but it is not easy, because we don't know how.

It's just like you put your glasses in your pocket and then you are busy doing some household work. Later when you want to find your eyeglasses, you can't find them. You look all over the place, you turn every stone up, table and everything; and you can't find them. They are all the time in your pocket. If you don't look there, you can't find them. That's very simple.

Everyone Needs Enlightenment

Therefore immediate enlightenment is nothing to question, everyone can have it and immediately. Because I will just show you where it is. It is inside you because the Kingdom of God is within us. God is all the nobleness, the goodness that all humanity generates together, has created together. That is why God is within us, and that is the common good of all mankind.

We can make use of it or we don't have to make use of it, it's up to us. If we use it, it's so much better for ourselves in our daily work even, and so much better for our planet. We can see how fast we grow into the galaxy united spirit and work with all beings on different planets.

Our life could be more meaningful, more colorful, more broad in every aspect, instead of clinging to a corner of our Earth and knowing not much about why we are born and why we have to die after so much trouble of birth, growing, and enduring so much suffering and so much misery, which are not always entirely our fault. And we don't even understand where they come from and why they have to come. Therefore enlightenment truly is a must to everyone. Why should we live in darkness when we could switch on the light? If we know where the switch is, the light is always immediately turned on. Similarly light is within us in the whole universe, we have to just plug in or switch on, and then we are in the Kingdom of God, we are in the light.

We are here to offer you this knowledge of how to turn on your heavenly vision, television. You can watch and see what else is there, apart from our ephemeral body, apart from our limited Earth, apart from our very small amount of knowledge. We always worship the saints and sages of the past and the present. We envy them, love them, and adore them, but why? Because they have found their greatest supreme power.

Then whether the neighbors love us or don't love us, we just love them. We feel fulfilled in our giving and our loving, instead of expecting any love from other people. People will be also infected by our love and our wisdom; they will also become enlightened. Whoever even looks at us once will be different, never the same again. That is the power that we possess. We can use it anytime, anytime at all, if we know where. Just like electricity, if we know where to turn on the switch, the whole house, the electrical power is for our use. We can use it for cooking, turning on the fan, for the air conditioning, for the refrigerator, for video equipment, for television, for everything we wish to use; only if we know that we have the electrical power inside our house.

That's what we want to offer you, to know what you have and how to use it. Otherwise, we do feel sorry that people live the way they do; and they shouldn't, they don't deserve to live such miserable lives. They are God's children, they have God within themselves, they can let God rule and run their lives and do everything for them in God's wisdom instead of in the limited brain computer power.

Therefore we run around ten hours or eight hours a day trying to do many things and trying to accomplish a great deal, but we can only do so much and our world is still like this. Even if we advance in some of the electromagnetic fields or in technology, we regress somewhere else because we don't do it with wisdom and we don't enlighten the world with the true wisdom which everyone has.

We try to copy some of the apparatus from the astral world which people reject up there, throw into the garbage and here we pick up and they become our top best selling inventions. Most of our technology are rejected things from the upper region.

Therefore the best thing is to enlighten all the people of the world and then each one uses his own greatest power to work together. Otherwise, if some person is working very hard here to do something, many of the others are against him or destroy. Many of our techniques are very destructive. We cause a lot of damage to our world, because of our so-called intelligence.

Intelligence and wisdom are different. Wisdom is wiser and we can see the whole universal plan. Intelligence is just from the brain. We collect some information and we pull it out again -- very limited. That's what we learn, and we see in flowers, from other beings; that is from very material information. If we use wisdom, we have the whole store house of the universal plan and then we can pick up whatever we need to benefit our world and ourselves. We can live in a higher state of thinking, higher state of perception.

It's not the way we think as we do now. It's just like when we grow up we think differently; we know things in a wiser way, not like when we were a child and we did not know what was behind many things. Therefore to be enlightened is to grow up in spirit and to do things in an adult way.

We have the ability to do this if we just know how. Of course, after enlightenment you will probably see things differently. You will see things just as dreams and have no more desire even to teach people. But then because of the destructive world, because of the misery of the world, because people call on you to help, you will have to do it for the sake of other people. Otherwise, to the enlightened sage, there is nothing to do. Okay, I think I'll leave you to ask questions. Thank you very much.

Q: Dear Master, some meditation practitioners claimed that they saw a vision of a great disaster to human beings in the world. During that disaster, millions of people were killed, is that real? What is Your opinion?

M: It will be real, if many of our worldly residents do not wake up and use our own great saving power inside. God has given us the life saving power, but most of us don't use it. Of course, everything is created and will be destroyed in the proper time, if we don't have enough creative power to sustain it, to restore it.

Just like a house, it was built and if we have all the tools in the house, all the paint and all the equipment to repair the house but we don't, then the house will fall down or be damaged by itself. Now even if the house is pulled down and damaged, we have emergency exits and all that. If we don't know them, if we don't use them, of course we will be in danger.

Therefore I would like to offer you this opportunity to save yourselves at least, should it come to that; but how many people hear me? The thing is so simple, unconditional, you just sit there and relax just like you sleep. Then all the power, all the knowledge of your past memory, and all the skills of life will come to you. It's so simple, but how many heed this?

They keep on asking me all the time about the end of the world! We will end anyhow when we die, so we might just as well save our souls. If we want to save the world, we have to contribute our power, the supreme power. We have to take it back and use it; otherwise, who else can do this? The angels have their world, they have their duties to do; Jesus is teaching somewhere else more advanced than our earth; Buddha is gone to Buddha's land and does His thing; only we are here to rescue ourselves.

If you are afraid of these disasters, then get enlightenment, repair our house, restore our world into more moral standards, and a more enlightened planet; then no disaster will befall us. Otherwise, even if I don't know anything about the future, I could say yes, everything could happen. If the world is becoming so rotten a place, not fit to live, then God would pull it down and create a new one.

We Are The Supreme Master

Q: How do you develop the third-eye?

M: You don't develop the third eye, it's already there. We can't develop what is not material. The third eye is just a way of speaking, there isn't an eye at all! It just means normally we have two eyes and see things in a limited vision. But if we have the other eye, the third eye, we can see things in the whole universe. That's why it's called the third eye. Actually the soul doesn't need the eye to see, doesn't need ears to hear, doesn't need any sensory apparatus to perceive things. That's the highest truth, that's the highest perception without having to use any fresh instruments. That is our soul power, the supreme master within us, which knows all things, hears all things in all ways, everywhere.

That's what we have to find. Because we are the supreme master of all the universe, can you imagine how great you are, and how you live your life now? (Master sighs.) That's why I feel very sorry for you. You come here to listen to me, you shouldn't have to do it! We are equals, we are exactly the same, we have the same power. You shouldn't even have to respect me, that's a very sad thing. You know it if you accept what I say and then you know just what I know, what Christ knows, what Buddha knows.

Q: Dear Master, how do we develop our wisdom as lay people?

M: Lay or not lay, do I look like a monk or something? (Audience laughs.) I already grew my hair for you and you are still talking about lay and monk! There is no lay, no monk, there is only one, that's the master, the master power. The Master never has to be a monk. That's the God within you, God never needed us to shave our heads or go to anything, it's just because we don't know it. If we knew it, we would have already arrived there.

Lay people or no lay people, what are you talking about? I was ignorant when I became a nun, you don't have to be! A true monk is one without desires, and you can do that in your daily life also. You have a wife. Because you have her, so you continue being devoted and faithfully love each other, and help each other to grow, to search for the non-wife and non-husband within, the non-feminine, non-masculine inside, the everlasting "we".

Otherwise, what is a monk useful for? He recites the sutras, he eats vegetarian food, that you can do at home. Just because you have a little exercise with your wife or husband, that makes no difference. God doesn't need all these things, these are at the physical level, we can grow above that.

A man who grows above the physical level is a monk. He can do things, or he can not do things. He doesn't have to. These are just physical. We don't talk about physical exercise, we go above that. Of course after being enlightened, a great deal of desires will fall out, and you just do things without desire. If you have to do something, you do it, if you don't have to it, you don't do it, very simple!

Q: What are Your views on reincarnation?

M: Reincarnation? There is no reincarnation. The soul never reincarnates, just our habitual thinking, our desires, our attachments that reincarnate. If we know the soul, if we are enlightened, if we know the connection with the whole universe, we are not reincarnated anywhere, we are always right there. We are never born, and never die.

All this theoretical talk. Just get enlightenment and you will know all things. No need to waste my paper. All the paper that I think my disciple printed for you, waste of money. Thinking about the recession of our time, and get enlightenment. Save everything, save printing, save paper, save time, and save the rent money for this lecture hall. (Master and everyone laugh.)

Q: Do you agree the planet is entering a new age of enlightenment and that the feminine influence will now prevail.

M: Why should the feminine aspect prevail? Just because you see me as a female Master? I am perhaps the only female Master, so I can't beat all the male Masters in this world. It is not the feminine aspect, it is probably motherly love that prevails in our world. Because God is both feminine and masculine, we are both feminine and masculine; do not identify us with a female body or a man's apparatus.

This is only the cloth we wear. Sometimes it's different, just like I wear like this; the lady wears like that; and the gentleman loves sports, probably he just came from running, so he would wear that. So what's wrong? Right? (Audience: Yes.)

If we enter the new enlightening age or not, is up to you to decide. It's not up to me or anyone to say. If we all enlightened or many of us enlightened, we would enter a new enlightening age. Otherwise, it doesn't matter who predicts what and who decides what age we are in, what is the use? We are still living in darkness.

Originally We Are One

Q: If we are all one, doesn't your enlightenment enlighten me also?

M: Yes, but you don't know that we are one; that's the problem. If you already know that I and you are one, then of course my enlightenment is yours. But you don't know, only I know.

Suppose the parents recognize the son that has been lost for many years, but the son doesn't recognize the parents. So all the property from the parents, the son will not acknowledge, and he has no right to receive it. He has to prove, the parents have also tried to prove to the son that you are my son.

So I am trying to prove to you now, through the immediate enlightenment process that you and I are one and my enlightenment you can get also. Therefore you can get it immediately to prove that we are one. But now you sit there, I sit here, I can't do much for you. Yes, I do something, but because you sit there and your attention is fixed on me and also the outer world, you can't know it yet.

At initiation I tell you to focus inside and know where it is and immediately you see that we are one. What I have, you have, at least to some degree. Then you discover more and more about your greatness, day by day with the daily meditation practice.

Q: How does one overcome mental abuse by parents? Another, how does one know whether he or she has indeed forgiven someone?

M: Each family is different. Sometimes family members misunderstand each other. The parents try to do their best to look after the children, and the children sometimes look at it in a different way, and thinking that the parents are too over domineering; therefore they feel resentful. So we can never tell.

The best way I can tell you is be loving, kind to your parents because they are the representatives of God; they take care of you in the name of God, their love for you is the love of God through their bodies and care. Pray to God all the time with all your mind and sincerity, so that you see things in a different way. And if your parents truly are unknowingly abusing you, they will change and harmony will prevail within your family.

The second question is that, when you truly forgive someone, you have no more hatred towards that person, no more blaming, no more obstructive thinking, just very easy. When you see him or her, when you think of her, it's just like you think they are like anyone else, without any of the resentment.

Q: Supreme Master Ching Hai, does God sit upon a thrown in heaven observing, judging and recording all our actions on earth to determine whether we shall rise to heaven or be doomed to eternal hell?

M: No, there is no such God. All these things whether happiness or disaster are brought upon ourselves by our own misunderstandings and abusing the power of freewill. So we have to correct our ways, using our freewill in a proper way; then we will be alright.

By the way, I would like to mention again about the meditation subject. Everyone just says, "I meditate and I can't find anything, I can't have peace of mind, I am in trouble, I am in a possessed state", it is because you do it wrongly, you just call anything meditation.

Of course everyone meditates. People meditate on money, on fame, on power, on the political struggles and all that. Everyone meditates on something, but please don't misunderstand that is meditation on God. Meditation has proper techniques, and it is safer to follow the footsteps of the great Masters of all times.

Q: How does using psychic ability hinder the spiritual development?

M: Because psychic ability is still one corner of the whole. If we cling to one corner, then we can not attain the complete state, that's it. Just like magical power and all that, these are binding, golden chains.

Q: Is it important for us to tell our families about you, or will you take care of becoming known to them?

M: Oh, do what you can in your power. Otherwise, why should God use us at all? We do what we can, think properly, and leave the result to the universal plan. That's the proper way; not always sitting there and waiting for the Master to do everything, or Master knows everything.

Of course I know everything -- maybe, if I am a Master; but you have to know it as well, it's your duty to know it. Your duty is to do what you have to do. Just like a student in a class, the teacher knows everything; but the student has to learn all the same, because the student can not say to the teacher, "Look, you know everything, you know all these questions, why ask me?" Yes, it's our duty, we have to know, we have to do what we should do.

Q: Is pain a part of God?

M: No, pain is what we have inflicted upon ourselves by doing something not according to the plan of the universal intelligence. That is a reminder that we should correct it, correct our way.

Q: How do parents help children become enlightened?

M: Well just get them initiated and they will get enlightened themselves. Because they have enlightenment within themselves just like the parents do. We are all equal actually.

Q: Is there any universal language, is that sound close to AUM?

M: Universal language is the inner current which unites all things and brings all beings to understand each other without any language. The sound of AUM is the sound of the second level. It is not the only sound, and it's not the highest sound in the universe.

Q: Why do we need to meditate? What is the advantage? People say that if we don't meditate, we will have trouble, please explain.

M: Look at our world and answer yourself, look at your state of mind and answer yourself, look at the way you live your life, look at how miserable many of us are and answer yourself why you have to meditate, why you have to have enlightenment. It not my problem, it's not that anyone has to tell us to get enlightenment, we just have to rescue ourselves and rescue the world.

Of course if you meditate at random as I already mentioned, you will run into trouble. If you tap into the great power, without knowing how to handle it you will run into trouble. If you tap into the wrong side of power and run into negative forces, you'll have more trouble. Therefore it is best, of course, to have an experienced friend or teacher to help.

The Omnipresent,Great Enlightened One

Q: What's the difference in the life of an enlightened person and an ordinary person?

M: What's the difference between Jesus and other priests? He is different. What's the difference between Buddha and the other monks of His time? He is different. He knows His supreme power, He is one with the universal power. He can do what He wishes, save whom He wants to save, know what He wants to know, lacks nothing in life. He is happy wherever He is, He's omnipresent, He can help whomever calls on Him. That is the difference between an enlightened person and not enlightened person.

Q: Can one have enlightenment by just listening to the inner sound?

M: Sure, that is the enlightenment itself to some degree, until you recover your complete wisdom.

Getting A New Life After Knowing Master!

I am Your faithful devotee in Mainland China. Although I have not been initiated yet, I wish very much to share my feelings with You, and earnestly hope to receive Your guidance and help for the many inconceivable feelings and experiences that I have had since I have come in contact with Your teachings last year.

My most exciting experience was hearing daily an indescribable and super-worldly sound, coming from nowhere. This is truly exciting for me because I haven't been initiated yet and am only practicing the Convenient Method. It is there every time I open Your book, but it is most distinctive during my meditation. This phenomenon has continued for several months.

I feel strange but also not strange. Strange in a way that I had no such experience before despite having studied Buddhism for several years. Not strange because since knowing about You, I feel I have been receiving Your blessings all the time, and consequently have had these incredible experiences. Otherwise, if I continued to practice blindly like before -- without the blessing power of an enlightened master, I could not have any result even after eons of time, as one cannot cook rice out of sand.

Therefore, with deepest gratitude, I report this good news to my most revered Supreme Master Ching Hai -- the greatest Master of Heaven and Earth in this era. I think the best way to thank and repay You for Your grace is to unconditionally follow Your instructions, sharing the same noble ideals and goals as Yours and to persist in learning and practicing diligently until I become a fully enlightened being capable of delivering sentient beings.

No words can ever describe Your grace, and no songs can ever praise Your virtues. With great respect and closed palms, I prostrate before You, Namo Ching Hai Wu Shang Shih!

Master's Words

A Secret of Doing Things

Spoken By Supreme Master Ching Hai, To Resident Disciples, Hsihu Center, Formosa.

I also do the same. That is why I asked you to buy these note pads for me. I place them everywhere, because I work throughout the day. I can't simply say, "I'm sorry! I have forgotten." I place them even beside my bed or in the bathroom, because I do not want to neglect my responsibilities. I even put them where I eat. Sometimes, while I am eating, I write down what I need to do. Otherwise, I'm afraid that I might forget.

If you say that you do not care about such trivial matters, then you are much greater than I; because even I have to take care of these matters. I put these little notebooks everywhere, just in case I need to write something down. It's because we should be responsible in what we do.

However, none of you do this. You are not responsible. So when you are asked, about anything, you always say that you have forgotten. You could not remember what you were supposed to do. You also forget what you need to do tomorrow. I told you to do something; and then a while later, it was not done.

I cannot do everything by myself. If you really love me like half of what you say, these things would never happen. I really have doubts about your love. If you truly love me like half of what you say, you wouldn't ill-treat me mentally this way. No one can bear this. This was requested, and that was done.

Also, wear gloves when you work; otherwise, you might get hurt. Like when you do cement work, you should wear a mask and gloves, or else you will get sick, and then you don't know why. Sure, you can take medicine for it. We can afford the medicine! But it would be too late. Why breathe in all that dust? It is bad for your lungs.

Also, those who do woodwork in the workshop or those who spray paint have to wear masks to protect themselves.

It is not alright just because we can afford the medicine. Why take medicine? Is it not better to protect ourselves in the first place? Why wait until we are in such agony that we are dying for the medicine? Sure, we can take medicine. But why? Prevention is better than the cure!

We, spiritual practitioners, are very sensitive. Of course, we have better bodily resistance than others. However, the world is getting more and more toxic, and our resistance can not keep up. I hear that recently there are many new germs and infectious diseases. All kinds of people come here; you should protect yourselves more.

Protect your bodies and your souls, but not your image! I don't mind being painted red and green, because in my heart I am not affected. You have not yet put any make-up on and your hearts have already moved. I get fed up with wearing different clothes, but you don't. I wear them for my work, and you wear them because you like to. I sing and write poems in response to people's requests, and to please others. You sing because you like to. So, there is a big difference, because what you do is for yourselves.

Why won't people get tired of seeing me? It's because everything I do is for others, not for myself. I don't have the smell of selfishness, and so people won't get tired of seeing me. People won't get fed up with whatever I do, all because the smell is different. They know immediately that what I do is for them, and not for myself. Therefore, you cannot fool others. Do you understand? The smell will arise and people will know what you are after; and regardless of what you say, you cannot fool anyone.

I remember a few years ago, when I gave him a necklace with Master's photograph, he immediately saw Buddhas' light emitting from the photo. He said that he has never seen a master in this world with such high energy.

This time I went to see him again. When the conversation changed to "guardian gods," he immediately saw several around me. There was one showing only a vague appearance. He used all his mighty magical power, but still couldn't see it clearly. He didn't understand why he couldn't get a clear picture.

I told him with a smile that all of Master's disciples, after initiation, have an inner master guarding and protecting them at all times. Right after I said that, he immediately saw Master's beautiful true appearance. He kept praising Master's distinctive good looks.

Worshipping 'Buddha'!

Sister Wu Su-Chin was about to go abroad when her newly initiated son reminded her to see Master at Hsihu Center on the coming Sunday because it could well be a long time before she couldn't see Master again.

On the Sunday sister Wu busily preparing for her trip abroad until noon, and then she quickly call a taxi to go to the train station. Originally, she planned to take a train from Tainan to Miaoli, but the taxi driver suggested that she take a highway bus, because trains tended to run late and she may arrive after four thus missing the chance to see Master. Sister Wu accepted the driver's advice, changed her plan, and went on a highway bus.

After arriving at the bus station and buying her ticket, She stood there and waited for the bus. She wore a necklace with a pendant bearing Master's picture, which was big and eye-catching. She was looking in another direction and worrying about whether she could catch a glimpse of Master before dinner time when suddenly she saw a female bus attendant standing right in front of her holding a bundle of burning incense and repeatedly bowing to Master's picture. It turned out that the bus attendant always silently bowed to pictures of Buddha to pray for a safe journey before each bus trip, however, sister Wu had accidentally stood in front of Buddha's specially arranged picture, and the lady was reluctant to ask her to step aside. Through this ingenious arrangement, the bus attendant had unknowingly bowed to Master's picture while praying for the safe journey.

The bus travelled through the city area, and headed in the direction of the highway. Suddenly, a girl riding a motorbike crossed the road, and in a split second, the bus narrowly missed running over her. In the twinkling of an eye, it seemed that a huge, invisible hand helped the bus driver to apply the emergency brake just in time. All the passengers on the bus were jostled, and some were even thrown into the seats in front of them.

Sister Wu has been initiated for many years, and each Sunday she goes to Miaoli for group meditation by taking a shuttle tour bus early in the morning. This time she indeed had broken her standing routine and had started off on her journey in the afternoon, taking a bus alone to go to Miaoli. It turned out that Master had arranged thing so that She could thwart the disaster for all those people on the bus who had an affinity with Her.

What made sister Wu even happier was the fact that when she arrived at Hsihu she was in time to see Master coming down the hill to give a discourse. It seemed as though Master had come down especially late, deliberately waiting for the late but admiring disciple.

What A Powerful Master!

When I got to the funeral parlor, I saw that the part of my dead relative's face that had had an operation was black and the rest was very pale. Immediately we played Master's Buddhist chanting tape and began meditating beside the deceased. After playing the tape for about ten minutes, the black part became grey, and the pale part became pink. After another meditation session in the evening, we saw that the face had turned red. Master's Buddhist chanting tape was kept playing until the deceased person was put into a coffin the next day. At that time, the entire face was rosy red and not a trace of black could be seen. He looked better than when he was alive.

Although we meditated at the funeral home, we distinctly felt the presence of Master's tremendous power. Despite the air conditioning in the building and the cold weather outside, I could feel a warmth radiating from inside my body.

On the night of the funeral service, some friends and relatives who had not met for a long time gathered. They asked each other about how they had been in the past years. That day I brought some of Master's sample booklets and placed them there for the friends and relatives to make an affinity with Her.

I wanted to explain to him, but he left as soon as he finished talking. However, as he walked away, he was still saying, "Very powerful! Very powerful! I've never seen anyone like that before."

I could only explain to my friends and relatives that the lady he saw was indeed Master's transformation form. They could not quite understand, yet my heart was filled with gratitude.

Having such a wonderful method and such a wonderful Master, what reason is there for me to hesitate? I truly need to be more earnest and not waste time in my practice.

Beautiful Heaven

Before I got initiated, I borrowed Master's sample booklet, "The key of immediate Enlightenment," from a friend. It was like finding a treasure. I copied the contents of the booklet into my notebook and read it repeatedly.

Not long after, during my meditation at night, a magnificent, huge, bright and beautiful heaven appeared in the sky together with a very great compassionate goddess. The sky was very bright and full of shiny rays of light. Quickly, a strong wind swept me into an underground tunnel and took me to a place like hell. I saw half of my body in front of me. My mind was very clear so I wanted to see more. Surprisingly, I felt happy and wonderful. I had never seen such things before. Now, I truly believe there is heaven and hell.

The first night I practiced the Convenient Method, I saw Master (vision) for the first time. My tears poured down with joy. I thought, "I've really found an enlightened Master. I am so honored and fortunate."

Meditation has become a habit. I feel relaxed and full of joy in samadhi. I don't watch TV any more.

During my recent meditations, I often see myself flying around in heaven. No matter how high the sky is or how far below the ground is, I am not afraid at all. I feel light both in body and mind, and feel very curious.

I feel that the more I practice meditation, the more common I become, confirming what Master has said. Fame, position, money, etc., are not important to me anymore. What's important is the devotion to spiritual practice and eternal liberation.

Outsiders cannot understand the change in me, of course. Most people just think that I am a good person who is getting better everyday. Many want to be friends with me. No doubt, all this is attributable to Master's great powers!

Master's Photo Helped Recover A Lost Motorcycle

Young initiate Jiun's brother-in-law lost his motorcycle recently. The vehicle, which he used to commute to work, was stolen by a passerby. He rode a bicycle anxiously everywhere looking for it. He also reported the theft to the police but even after a few days there was still no news.

During this time, he visited fellow initiate brother Wu Ching-Feng's motorcycle store to complain about his predicament. The man wanted to buy a new motorcycle, but was afraid he didn't have enough money. Brother Wu kindly invited him to have lunch with him each day.

After a few days, the man was amazed to discover that vegetarian food could be so nutritious, delicious and varied. He proclaimed in astonishment, "I can become a vegetarian!"

A short while later, he phoned brother Wu and exclaimed, "Master really is marvelous! I was supposed to go and take care of some business, but because I was bringing Master's photograph home, I had to take a different route. To my surprise, I found my motorcycle parked on the sidewalk."

After reporting his good news, with joy and excitement, he brought Master's photograph back to brother Wu and expressed his jubilation and appreciation.

Spiritual Integration -- Return To The Divine Homeland

From a TV broadcast, fellow initiates learned about a meaningful exhibition that was to be held at Lublin City's Cultural Center in Poland. The theme was an interesting one, "Integration - Closer to Nature". They immediately decided to prepare Master's books, videos, pictures and other materials, in order to present Her teachings at the exhibition.

The weather was extremely cold before the event, and the movement in the city had slowed down a great deal. Suddenly, on the day of the exhibition, people turned up and came to Master's booth to take the beautiful printed sample booklets in Polish. After reading them, many showed further interest, and enquired about the Convenient Method and the possibility of initiation.

The local radio and TV stations were also at the exhibition, and they interviewed fellow initiates about the Quan Yin Method. A well-known journalist from Lublin's newspaper "Eastern Daily" was impressed by Master's teachings. After speaking with fellow initiates, she felt eager to write an article about the positive changes in their lives after they met Master and practiced the Quan Yin Method. She wanted to remind the Polish people to elevate the spiritual aspect of their lives.

A lady, after returning home and reading Master's sample booklet, came back the next day and told the Polish initiates that she had a dream. In this dream, she was shown the answer to something which, for her, was very important. She also said that she saw Master while she was asleep.

On the second day of the exhibition, a seminar was held to let interested people find out more about Master's teachings as they had previously requested. The whole festival ended happily - Master's love filling and blessing the people of Poland.

Vienna's Spring

In Austria, the winter has been very harsh this year, with temperatures far below zero and an icy wind sweeping through the city of Vienna.

When Master said, "Go to the poor and bless them with my love," the fellow initiates in Vienna immediately thought of the many homeless who could often be seen begging in and near the underground railway stations. In no time, the fellow initiates set out bringing with them food and warm drinks.

When the beggars and homeless in the cold received the warm drinks from this group of enthusiastic and smiling strangers, who kept offering them food and good wishes, they could hardly believe that God really had not forgotten them. One old man was so excited that he shedded tears, "A miracle! This is a miracle!" He then had plenty of hot coffee, sandwiches and fruit, with an expression of utter contentment on his face.

There was a Hungarian man sitting on the pavement, begging for money to pay for the medical treatment of his sick children. Touched by fellow initiates' care and attention, he earnestly held on to Master's gift of love as he received it.

Master's love had warmed the Viennese underground railway stations. In a flash, these places became so cheerful and bright, and everyone's heart was filled with warmth. Spring had indeed arrived!

Sharing The Atmosphere Of Love

One snowy day, fellow initiates, following Master's loving instructions, prepared some gifts and went to visit the youngsters at the "Rose Hill Children's Mental Hospital". These little patients, because of heredity, accidents or psychological reasons, were being rehabilitated there.

Fellow initiates simply and brightly decorated a central community room, while the children were having dinner. When they first met, no one knew what to do for a moment, but soon they were enthusiastically playing together. In this warm atmosphere, each child received many toys, dolls and sweets. For those who couldn't join the party, fellow initiates went to their room to visit and encourage them. Some of the children who had difficulty getting along with strangers and adjusting to new situations showed a marked degree of trust in the initiates.

Later, the nurses and resident doctors told the initiates working at the hospital that after their visit, many of the children showed positive changes. Some who used to be very uncooperative during treatment were trying very hard to cooperate with doctors. Those who used to quarrel a lot were suddenly giving each other "good-night kisses". The very young ones who used to cry easily in a crowd were quietly enjoying the loving atmosphere that night.

Besides improving our spiritual practice, we would like to share Master's teachings with others in everyday practical ways in order to bring the light of Her true love and wisdom to all.

Master's Holy Love Reaches The Blind

The local mediation center in Austria has been holding 1-day retreats once a month since late last year. Also, fellow initiates get one of Master's lectures translated each week. This year, with the cooperation of the German language group, they hope to publish more of Master's books and more successfully spread Master's teachings. Furthermore, they plan to reduce the level of natural disasters by improving their spiritual practice and promoting world peace.

Fellow initiates here are trying to translate Master's sample booklets into braille, so that the blind can also share the benefits of Master's teachings. Later, with the cooperation of the initiates in Germany, they would like to give the sample booklets to major libraries for the blind. They have given Master's lecture cassette tapes, songs of Love and CD's to the Austrian Public School for The blind in the second district of Vienna.

All the workers in this library are totally blind, except for the security guard who is blind only in one eye. They can only communicate through the senses of touch and hearing. Seeing such unfortunate people reminds us to treasure what we have.

May the light of God bless these brothers and sisters. We wish that their wisdom eyes be opened so that they will be liberated soon.

Master's Great Love Graces England

Having received Master's instructions to care for the less fortunate people, London Center promptly announced the news to fellow initiates during the monthly 1-day retreat. As fellow initiates in England are scattered over many places, they formed groups according to their residential locations, so as to efficiently and promptly render help to those people in need. Hence, a chain of activities of "conveying warmth and comfort in the cold winter to the less fortunates" began.

Visiting A Home For Senior Citizens

After some liaison and investigational work, it was known that a home for senror citizens in Hillington, a suburb of London, needed furniture. A group of fellow initiates, including some young initiates, visited the old folk's home, carrying the required items and some fruit, to convey Master's love and blessing to them.

Upon arriving at the home, they found that some seniors virtually had no trace of a smile on their faces. Nevertheless, after they found out the intent of fellow practitioners was to express Master's best wishes, blessings and concern to them, all their suspicions disappeared. They started to have friendly talks with fellow practitioners, and as the seniors themselves acknowledged, they had not been so happy for a very long time.

Some other seniors had not received a visit from their friends or relatives in a long time, so they chatted cheerfully with fellow practitioners about trivial things in their daily life. Others were so charmed by the young fellow initiates that they smothered them with hugs and kisses. They also loved taking photos with the little practitioners, all of whom volunteered to come on this trip. Unexpectedly, there and then, they became good tools and bridges for communication. The adult practitioners dared not look down upon these future Buddhas, and were very grateful for Master's meticulous arrangement! When fellow initiates were leaving, the seniors, reluctant to part, opened the windows to say, "bye-bye" to them.

Most of the fellow initiates had never visited homes for seniors. Thanks to Master's loving instruction, they had a new spiritual realization -- everything in our daily life is spiritual practice. The young initiates who participated in this activity were also very happy. Apart from having the chance to give joy to others, they also realized the preciousness of spiritual practice.

Visiting The Homeless

Due to the environmental contamination done to the Earth, the climate has also been drastically affected. This year, the winter in England was made harsher by the chilling winds and unusually frequent snows. Aside from causing inconveniences to the citizens, these abnormal phenomena were a dreaded nightmare to those living on the streets.

Upon receiving Master's compassionate instructions, the London Center immediately took action to prepare food and necessities for distribution to the homeless at their gathering spots in London.

There was a heavy snow several days before. When the homeless received these unexpected New Year gifts, they were truly delighted and grateful. Having lived on the streets for years, the clothes of some people were really tattered. Therefore, some of them immediately took off their old socks and put on the new ones they just received. Knowing that all theses gifts were given by the compassionate Master, many of them began to read the sample booklets and News magazines with great interest, not paying much attention to the hot meal in their hands that the fellow initiates had served them.

Thank You, Master, for giving us the opportunity to learn how to meticulously love and care to others. Especially when we had only stood in the cold and drizzling night rain for less than an hour, and our limbs were already trembling; this caused us more empathetic toward the homeless. Apart from praying to God to bless them, we deeply realized Master's merciful ideal of "all of creation are one".

Joyful Carnival And Peaceful Retreat

It was Carnival time in Brazil, and all Brazilians were celebrating the festival in great joy. With Master's kind permission and blessings of infinite love, fellow initiates in Brazil held a 2-day retreat on a farm where there were many pine and fruit trees. Some fellow initiates from other countries also attended; their sincerity was truly touching.

Under Master's blessing, each participant experienced heavenly bliss. Finally, amid the singing of the "Verse for Transferring Merit" and "Hallelujah," the retreat ended with feelings of fulfillment.

After the retreat, everyone felt they were physically and mentally relaxed, and spiritually elevated. Therefore, they sincerely thanked Master, and hoped that She would soon grant them another chance to hold a retreat.

Observing that many fellow initiates were immigrants who were not fluent in the local language, and so could not efficiently spread Master's teachings, the Center held a course to study Master's teachings in Portuguese. Old and young alike, fellow initiates studied attentively. They hoped to learn the language so they could become competent tools in spreading the Quan Yin Method and Master's teachings in Brazil. In this way, they could help the local people establish affinities with the living enlightened Master sooner.

A Touch Of Warmth In The Cold Winter

During the Chinese New Year, fellow initiates from Portland, Oregon fed several hundreds homeless people in the area. They prepared delicious vegetarian meals including spring rolls, rice, veggie-hamburgers and other vegetarian dishes. Fellow initiates worked in three groups: one group cooked in the kitchen, the second served the people, and the third group stayed outside to distribute socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, warm clothes and blankets to those in need.

Whenever someone said, "Thank you" to them, fellow practitioners reminded them that Supreme Master Ching Hai was the one providing all the help. Master's spiritual materials were also included in the gifts.

Some people were familiar with Supreme Master Ching Hai. For example, one man pointed to Master's picture and said, "Oh, I know who that is -- that is Supreme Master Ching Hai!" Another man told one initiate that he didn't need anything except Master's News magazine.

From that day's experience, fellow practitioners realized that more help was needed by the homeless community. So, the next day, more socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, gloves and blankets were purchased and distributed to different areas where the homeless people spend their evenings.

In this cold winter, Master's love and care warm the hearts of many.

A Fantastic Night On The Beach

Upon receiving Master's instructions to seek out homeless people in places where we have never been, and send them Her love, fellow initiates in Los Angeles immediately targeted the beach areas -- Santa Monica and Venice Beaches. Until now, we are still amazed at the miracles that occurred in carrying out Master's instructions!

Since it was still winter in Southern California, the weather was cold and unforgiving. We decided to purchase sleeping bags and medicine to help the less fortunate brothers and sisters. Miracles occurred when we tried to buy the materials from some well-known chain stores. Wonder of all wonders, the managers of the stores suddenly became friendly and caring, and told us that they would cut the prices in half and would order more stock to accommodate us, at our convenience. We could only smile happily at Master's miraculous wonders! These miracles also strengthened our resolve to do Master's work meticulously. They stilled the doubts in our minds, brushed away any mental barriers, and filled us with love.

After packing various gifts and warm, aromatic food, we headed out in search of the less fortunate in the beach areas. Through Master's arrangement, every detail was taken care of and every barrier that came up was dispelled immediately, resulting in a quick and efficient love spreading event. For example, when we got to the beach, we had no idea where to search for the homeless who could be sleeping anywhere. Then, a person well-known to the homeless as "The Angel of The Homeless on the Beach" appeared. Being a wanderer himself, he was acting as a watchdog for the others. When he found out that we came to help people like him, he volunteered to lead us to the others.

During the night when some homeless suddenly received Master's love -- food, sleeping bag and gifts, they could only stare at us in wonder with wide opened eyes and speechless. They looked as if they couldn't believe what was happening to them, and that they were in a dream where God had answered their prayers and given them gifts. It wasn't until we began to leave that they were awakened from their dazed state and smiled at us.

As we looked back at all of them, many of them ignored their food and were all glued to Master's News magazines, sensing the holy love radiating from every page. We sincerely prayed for the best for them as the cold night shimmered under Master's loving care....

Delightful Gifts In The Cold Winter

There was an unusual activity at the San Diego Center recently. The bookstore was full of gift bags brought over from the previous week. Fellow initiates one by one inserted a blanket, sweat-shirt, etc., into gift bags for the homeless people. Thanks to Master's boundless love and compassion, the homeless were not only provided material care to keep their body warm in the winter, but also taken care of mentally and spiritually via Master's teachings through Her books and News magazines.

Fellow initiates erected a banner with the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association logo and Master's photo on it. Hearing about the gift distribution, the needy rushed to the site of distribution and quickly queued up to receive Master's gifts. Some were deeply touched. With tears in their eyes, they repeatedly said thank you. There was one person who after being told the identity of the person in the picture, ran toward the photo to say thank you and kissed it.

Bathing In Master's Ocean of Love

During the Chinese New Year Festival, dozens of fellow initiates and would-be initiates from the Macau Center visited the Christian Church Home and the Holy Mother Home for the Aged. They prepared candies, biscuits and fruit as gifts and carried with them Master's love and blessings.

The visit to the Holy Mother Home deeply impressed fellow initiates. The people there only heard about Supreme Master Ching Hai for the first time. Nevertheless, with devoted assistance from staff at the Home, both parties worked together perfectly and in harmony.

The pure-hearted seniors were very happy when they received the gifts. They were so attracted to Master's photo on the sample booklets that they kept asking us who this beautiful person was. Knowing that the beautiful lady, Master, was the one who sent them the gifts, they joyfully exclaimed together like children, "Thank You, Master!"

They read the sample booklets attentively. Even those who were illiterate gazed at Master's photo on the booklet cover with great concentration.

Though many seniors were disabled and could not move around, they still reached out, trying to embrace us. Some even emotionally held our hands to show their gratitude.

We felt that Master's love had permeated each of us -- the senior citizens and the fellow practitioners were all bathing in Her ocean of love. Obviously, the satisfaction and bliss that the seniors derived from Master's love far exceeded what they got materially as New Year's gifts.

Timely Gifts For The Lunar New Year

With the Lunar New Year approaching, the compassionate Master hoped that gifts and care could be delivered to the Au Lac asylum seekers still stranded in the Galang Refugee Camps in Indonesia. As the camps are closed to all visitors, the Indonesian fellow initiates felt sorry that they could not visit these refugees. Fortunately, with Master's grace, an avenue was finally found to have these gifts of love and blessing from Her delivered to the Au Lac asylum seekers to celebrate the New Year.

Once confirmation of assistance was received, the Jakarta Center immediately arranged for members to purchase candies and biscuits at the local stores. Due to the tight time frame, help from fellow initiates from the Surabaya and Singapore Centers were sought to pack the gifts into several thousand parcels. The gifts were shipped to the refugee camp the next day, just in time for the Lunar New Year Celebration.

Due to the prevailing restriction, none of the fellow initiates were allowed to visit the camp. However, we know that all those in there are being taken care of by our beloved Master. Fellow initiates are grateful to Master for giving them this opportunity to serve the less fortunate, and for the blissful atmosphere of Her love and blessing that prevailed throughout the activity. Even the workers assigned by the vendor to assist us were seemingly touched by Master's love and rendered their services to the end with joy. Thank You, Master, for giving us this opportunity to learn and serve.

Master's Love Chased Away The Cold Winter

Blessed with Master's love, the fellow initiates in Singapore obtained approval without any problems for their applications for permits to enter the refugee camp. Having been taught by Master, they felt that besides material gifts, what the refugees in the camp needed even more was mental consolation. Therefore, they prepared Master's spiritual food for the rare opportunity of going inside the camp. When they arrived, they promptly displayed Master's photographs, News magazines and gifts. Then they played Master's holy chanting tape. As soon as the refugees heard the beautiful holy music, group after group of them rushed over. Suddenly, the place became very lively.

The refugees loved Master's News magazines and sample booklets and jostled one another to get them. It happened that it had been a long time since this kind of spiritual food had been brought here. Some of them were thrilled to see the necklaces with Master's photographs that the fellow initiates also brought with them. They happily told their friends in the camp and helped each other put them on. One could only hear that this person said that Master's photograph was beautiful, and another person said that Master was dignified. The happy and high-spirited atmosphere had chased away what chill there was on that winter day.

The children were innocent and spirited. Some of them were embracing a big doll with one hand, while touching the necklace with Master's photograph that their mothers were wearing with the other. One lady seemed to be dissatisfied when she received only one package of gifts. The fellow initiates were all surprised and wondered what else she wanted. It was not until later that they discovered she wanted to have another necklace and one more toy to greet the baby bodhisattva whom she would soon give birth to.

Originally, the camp authorities only allowed us to stay for one hour. However, God seemed to know that the refugees admired and yearned for Master's love. It started to rain very heavily just before the fellow initiates were about to leave, so the executive officer let them stay a little longer.

The fellow initiates took advantage of God's grace; they promptly divided themselves into several groups and mingled with the refugees to introduce the Quan Yin Method to them. After all, liberation of the soul is eternal. One could see a smile of hope that appeared naturally on the refugees' faces. Blessed with Master's love, we believe that they will be even more courageous in facing the challenges tomorrow brings.

A Loving Voyage To The Refugee Camp

When fellow initiates from Bangkok went to Panus Nikom Refugee Camp in early February to distribute Master's gifts and convey Her love to the asylum seekers, they were informed by the camp's head officer that the UN would soon stop sending financial assistance to the camp. He requested Master's help in providing some necessities such as milk powder for children, vegetable seeds, dry food, toothpaste and other things. Upon hearing this, we knew right away that it was God's will to help them and that we should act immediately.

After we got back to Bangkok, without hesitation, we promptly started preparing all the items they needed. We worked very fast. Fellow initiates from Bangkok recently returned to the camp bringing the items they needed.

When we arrived there, it was obvious that all the people in the camp, including the government officials, were very touched to see us return so quickly -- in only a few days. The goods were partially distributed directly to the asylum seekers, and the excess was kept by the officers for future use.

Observing that the asylum seekers loved the vegetarian food prepared by fellow initiates, some practitioners suggested that the next time the camp is visited, the people there could be shown how to cook vegetarian protein so that they would have a chance to modify the way of cooking in order to suit their tastes. Another reason for teaching them how to cook vegetarian is that the uncooked vegetable protein can be stored easier and kept longer than the cooked protein. Above all, the asylum seekers would get used to vegetarian food, and thus avoid malnutrition with this protein on hand.

The Thai fellow initiates return to the Panus Nikom Refugee Camp, bringing food and other necessities fully charged with Master's love.

Master Drills Wells To Sustain Villagers

Before the Lunar New Year, fellow initiates in Cambodia received instructions from Master to go to the Cambodian/Au Lac border to visit some poor villages in Cambodia and bring them gifts to wish them a happy New Year. Our local center began the preparations. Fellow initiates divided the work to buy daily necessities and supplies such as rice, sugar, salt, etc. They also bought lots of colorful candies, hoping to share the joy of the New Year.

Because there aren't many initiates in Cambodia, we were concerned about the progress of the work. On the day the gifts were wrapped, several Au Lac sister initiates unexpectedly showed up at the center to meditate and one of them even brought several members of her family. Thank You, Master, for sending us the extra help! The local center had now become "the factory of love"! Under the blessing of Master's songs, the gift-wrapping was quickly finished.

Even faced with the inconvenience of poor trasportation villagers still traveled came from afar to witness the drilling of the "Ching Hai Wells" made famous by governmwnt officials

On the day the gifts were given, some National Assembly members and government officials also came along. Our destination was a very remote village in the Suay Rieng Province. When we arrived, the villagers were already eagerly waiting for us. Miss An, a member of the Assembly, spoke about Master's love and aid to Cambodia in the past. She also mentioned Master's concern regarding their problem with their source of water for irrigation. Our loving and considerate Master realized that just giving them food was not enough. Therefore, She planned to drill wells for them, so that they could farm and thus avoid the pains of food shortages.

The warm sun was now shining brightly. All could feel Master's love shining upon the eyes and souls of the villages. No matter when, Master never forget those who need help in the forgotten corners of the world. Such delicate and non-discriminating love is what we all need to learn.

When the work was finished, fellow initiates happily brought home with them Master's love. This feeling of fulfillment and satisfaction could not be substituted by any material worldly things. Thank You, Master, for giving us this opportunity to develop our love. We believe that under Master Mommy's care, Cambodia will speed up it's steps of development, becoming better and better in the future.

Ching Hai's Deep Love!

To continue the "convey warmth in the cold winter" activities, the Taipei fellow practitioners, carrying Master's blessings, visited the destitute families and homeless people in many districts of the Taipei metropolitan area. These loving visits comforted the people and provided opportunities for the fellow practitioners to repay the graces of sentient beings. Another more important purpose was to convey to these poverty-stricken brothers and sisters Master's words of blessing -- "I wish them good luck in the New Year. Auspicious! Auspicious!" Apart from the material aid, these needy people also received God's infinite blessing.

At midnight before the activity, despite Her very busy schedule, Master despatched special instructions by fax: "Go to places that you have not been to look for homeless who have not received help -- people who sleep in the parks or on the streets, who have no houses, no roof, and are not helped by any shelters." This directive gave a boost to all involved, and made the activity more directed, and more meaningful.

During the visits, complying with Master's instructions and with the consent of the street people, the seriously ill people were taken to the hospitals, while the less ill were given medication or other services including massage. According to the individuals' needs, sleeping bags, winter coats and sweat suits were distributed. Due to the cold weather, the homeless "hid" themselves well. Fellow practitioners had to comb every street and lane. The search continued into the night and extended to remote corners and abandoned temples in the mountains. They eventually succeeded in finding the people they were looking for, and conveyed Master's well wishes, red envelopes containing lucky New Year's money, and clothing to them.

The "Good Times" program on Trend Net of the Chinese Broadcasting Corporation and many other media as well as newspapers, also spread the news to help locate those living on the streets. Many enthusiastic citizens called the Taipei Center giving information regarding the whereabouts of the homeless. Under God's mercy, fellow initiates and would-be initiates worked together to spread love to those truly in need. Since this activity, some of them have now developed the habit of caring about others. Whenever they see any destitute street people, they approach them to find out their situation.

There was an old man with a hearing problem who lived alone in a broken down old house. After hearing Master's New Year's wishes, he suddenly became as happy as a child. With bright eyes, and in trembling words, he said that Master was truly great for giving him the relief money, food and comforting words; he was really touched. He also asked how to write Master's name. Then, in great emotion, he told the fellow practitioners, "Oh! I know now! Ching Hai means vast and deep as the ocean. Am I right?" The fellow sisters visiting him were extremely moved. The well wishes that Master asked them to convey, filled with Her greatest blessings, deeply stirred his soul and the souls of all the homeless.

Keeping Warm In The New Year And The Cold Winter

Even though the Hualien Family Affair Center is located in a remote area in Formosa, Master's love still reaches far into such places. Fellow initiates got in touch with the workers there and found that heavy coats and blankets were what they needed most. The news was passed on to all the initiates in the area and within a few days the local mediation center was filled with various kinds of overcoats. Lots of soft and warm blankets were also purchased.

Fellow practitioners joyfully arrived at the Family Affair Center, which was already crowded with people lined up in a single file. Each person was filled with excitement and anticipation. When they realized that these gifts came from Master, they all looked at Her loving photograph on the News magazine cover and with deep feelings said, "Thank You, Master! Thank You, Master!"

Seeing the people there full of joy and appreciation and able to get through the cold New Year, fellow practitioners' hearts were also filled with joy. Watching these people go home with a lot of gifts, we could feel Master's love ever blessing all people experiencing hardship.
