You May Not Know
How To Play And Be With Children Saintly Humility

One of my children, recently, she took leave from school to come and play.
Because I cannot accompany and play with her everyday, since I am busy
with you, she had been enjoying only the air conditioner with the attendant.
She did not bring many toys with her, only a few books to draw in. She
had said she felt bored and wanted to go back to school.
Wherever I go I bring her along. This is playing with her! I came here
to group meditation and also asked her if she wanted to come along. I say
to her, "Let's go together!" She puts on a pretty dress and feels
that I am taking her out to play. This is a convenient trick. Making the
best of the situation to be with the child is playing, and the child enjoys
being with us.
Explaining some things to her when the occasion arises, asking her to help
me carry this book, she feels that she has accomplished a lot in being
able to help me. Asking her to help pull the zips, to help me put on the
bangles is playing with her while teaching her to be a grown-up.
Teaching A Child To Be A Grown-Up
I do not play chess or play the electro-mechanical toys with her everyday.
No, no. Our way of playing is different. I can work and play at the same
time with her. For instance, while I am reading the newspapers, I would
say, "Now I am reading the newspapers, you read your books over there.
Let's read together." This way, she is already happy. Like two adults
reading the newspapers. Perhaps I would ask her, "Can you understand
this book? Read whatever you understand and practice your English."
We both would think of a way to play.
It is not just playing with dolls or stuffed bears from morning until night
that children consider playing, or that taking here do not have the time,
we think of many ways of playing: for instance, cooking with her, teaching
her to wash the vegetables. When I do not have the time, I let the attendant
look after her, to be her baby-sitter. While washing clothes, she brings
her along and tell her to do some washing. Now, she is washing one of her
socks everyday. (Laughter) She told me, "Today I have work to do,
washing socks and then help sweep the floor a little." In this way,
the child is very happy.
Find ways for them to play. Playing is not just going out to buy many expensive
toys all the time. On the contrary, if you bring them along more often
while working, their IQ will improve; they will become smarter, livelier
and more careful. Also, they will understand the parents' work more. Later,
you will be able to communicate with them easily. Whatever you say they
will understand your problem. Later, when you tell them how hard you had
worked the day before, and so on, they will understand and will empathize
with you. If you lock a child up and let her play while you work by yourself,
then sometimes the parents are not able to communicate with her because
she does not know what the parents had been doing.
You can try to find ways to play with small children. It is very simple!
Sometimes helping me take my socks off, carry a pair of shoes -- carry
it up, carry it down. This is one of the ways to play with children. Of
course, I can do it myself or ask the attendant to do it. I can also just
leave them there and soon someone will straightened them up. But I want
to involve the child, so I tell her, "Help me carry this up. Help
me carry that down! Later, we have non-alcoholic beer together." For
example like that, and this would be very interesting for her.
Then, we each grab a bag of rice biscuits. She likes rice biscuits very
much. Well, I would say, one bag each, open it and then go choose whatever
drink you like. It becomes a game. How else could I have time to play with
her? We can also play during breakfast. We race each other to see who finishes
breakfast first, etc. That is fun. She likes it.
Sharing With Children
Young children do not demand much. As long as we pay attention to them,
share with them, they are happy already. They do not ask for dolls everyday.
Because no one plays with them, then they play with dolls. This is just
a very small part.
In this way, she is already very happy -- to be able to spend time with
me is enough, no matter what we do. As a result, she practices the spirit
of serving people. She feels very proud helping me carry a book, carry
my shoes up and down, helping me to carry an umbrella, or whatever. I can
do these things myself, but she feels a sense of accomphishment, like an
adult.
When we both have a bag of rice biscuit, sitting on the floor, each of
us opens up a drink, which I let her choose. I open the refrigerator and
say, "Take whatever drink you like." She feels that she has already
grown up! I don't force her and say you should drink this or that. No,
no. She knows that she cannot drink milk everyday. She'd get tired of it.
Thus, I tell her to choose a can and I would also choose one. Then, we
drink to each other's health and would eat and have a chat like two adults
entertaining each other. I do not know your definition of playing. I feel
that we both could play all day long. Many things can be played. She is
very happy.
As children grow older, the more you share with them the happier they are.
Not that you buy many toys for them that they are happy. If you play with
them, then they are happy! Of course, they like toys, too, but toys cannot
replace the parents' love. If you play with them everyday, talk with them
more, explain to them more, they will become very smart and be one with
the parents. When they grow up they will be like friends, because they
have been with the parents. Whatever you do, they know. You just mention
it, they understand. No need to wait until they grow up because by then
it would be very difficult to explain if you were not used to communicating,
only throwing toys at them.
Inventing New Methods Of Play
Though I do not have the time, but because of the child, I have to take
up the responsibility. Her parents died. She only has me left. Thus, I
try to think of ways to play with her. Playing should not have to be toys
or going to the park. I can play with her everyday, whenever I have the
time. I can tickle her. She loves it very much. I can throw her onto the
bed. Wow! She loves it! Sometimes we play 'skating'. I pull her by the
hands and skate and skate. This is called skating. But playing this way
is very tiring. It needs strong muscles. We play this occasionally, so
she was not tired of it. I skate once or twice and wanted to 'slip' away
(laughter). (Skate and slip away sound similiar in Chinese) She weighs
twenty-something kilos, and I am only, at most, twice her weight. We can
play with anything. Using a pen to draw, teach her to color many things.
With just a pen, we can play a lot of things. Like drawing things for her
to guess, she loves it.
As long as the parents accompany the child, he/she enjoy it no matter what
you play. Small children like us to pay attention to them and share with
them. No matter what you play, they will enjoy it. Small children are very
curious about the world, since they do not know it. Thus, whatever method
of play -- I didn't have toys to play with when I was young. I created
my own way -- drawing, playing chess, jumping around, or play with chopsticks.
Many things can be played. Why the need of toys? Also, no need for a lot
of space. Great, now you understand!

Not long ago, many people came down with a flu. Master then kindly instructed
those who had the flu to wear a mask over their mouth and nose for several
more days after they had fully recovered.
Master said that the people who were infected had not taken good care of
and protected themselves properly, while those who were ill did not take
enough precaution. It was an inconsiderate, selfish quality. Do not think
that this is a small matter. Its effects are far beyond our imagination.
Master cited an example to explain it to us.
There was a fellow practitioner who was lost in a love affair and had not
come to group meditation for a long time. Because his girl didn't like
it. It was not easy for him to recover from his situation and come to attend
a retreat, and with the determination to practice earnestly. However, because
he caught a flu, he was unable to take care of himself when he returned
home. That gave his ex-girlfriend an excuse and a chance to look after
and influence him. Since his girlfriend was not a vegetarian, it was naturally
difficult for his food to be pure vegetarian. Then, what would become of
the aspiration to practice that this fellow practitioner so difficultly
raised? Therefore, we have to be very careful even in small matters.
Master also talked about the time when She had a flu while She was abroad
a long time ago. She wore a mask so that other people would not be infected,
especially the children, who had a lower bodily resistance to infection.
In order to be even more close to Master and to see Her holy countenance
even more clearly, the fellow initiates present requested that Master not
wear a mask. They were willing to be infected, and thought that it would
be a supreme blessing. However, Master refused to do so, to protect everyone.
(A brother resident disciple immediately verified this.)
Master mentioned the incident only because of this occasion to cite an
example, and several years later, which shows that all Her actions come
from the most sincere affection and humility. By telling us this story,
Master wanted us to know that She practices what She teaches us.
I recalled the first time Master came to our center in Phnom Penh. As She
came to the stairs leading to the upper floor, She very naturally, and
without any hesitation, took off Her shoes, and proceeded to go up the
stairs. All the fellow initiates present were stunned and immediately asked
Master to put Her shoes back on. It was because the polished stone staircase
was not clean enough, and one should only take the shoes off walking on
the smooth ceramic tiled floor there. After hearing that, Master replied
calmly, "It's alright!" and went upstairs in Her socked feet.
Everyone was greatly impressed by the humility of such a great Master.
Master had said that all the great people pay attention to small matters,
and it becomes their habit. What Master spontaneously did in daily life
is the best example of that.

Between Master And Disciples
A Child Incarnated From The Ocean Of Love The Chain Connecting You And Me

Before my initiation, I felt completely helpless and disgusted about having
to live in this world. I often dreamed that I was wandering alone in unknown
mountains, looking everywhere for something. Climbing over all sorts of
mountains, I'd visited one temple after another. Each time I awoke, I always
felt an indescribable sense of loss and disappointment; and did not know
what I had really been looking for, where to go, and when I could stop
my search.
After I was initiated and started meditating seriously, this type of dream
rarely occurred anymore. Hearing Master's wonderful news about the heavenly
abodes, my foreigner's heart began to understand the nature of contentment,
and gradually accepted the fact that I have to live in this physical world.
I often asked Master, in my heart, why I had experience these things, and
the meaning of the things I had seen and heard, just as Ananda had done
so often two thousand years ago with the Buddha. However, my questioning
was not just to gain understanding; more importantly, Master must have
known very well about my longing to be liberated.
Once, during a 7-day retreat, Master meditated with us in the forest grove.
I suddenly felt the wonderful and profound power of love, with its indescribable
wonder, continuously pouring into my body and through my wisdom eye. Just
as though I were in a boundless maze, the illumination made me see my ignorance,
isolation, and sinking state. At that moment, I discovered that Master
knows me even better than I know myself; and I would no longer have to
bear, by myself, all the "gifts" bestowed upon me by this world.
Although I was only seeking my own peace and comfort in a hinayana way,
Master did not force me to sacrifice anything. Instead, She taught and
teaches us repeatedly by Her own working example: She rushed around for
the sake of the Au Lac refugees, helps and cares for the homeless and victims
of disasters.
Finally, I realized that Master's merciful eyes are so bright that they
permeate all the dark corners. My heart, which had been frozen for a thousand
years, melted quickly. I became very prone to crying. Each time I read
about disaster relief efforts in the Supreme Master Ching Hai News, or
thought about the love that Master showed me in quiet nights, I would cry
incessantly. I have never seen anyone with such a great amount of love
as Master, and I have never been loved as deeply as I am now.
No word in any language can completely describe my baby-like love and respect
for our Master. I feel as though I am a little child who likes to cry,
and who has finally found her mother. I know that I, myself, am a child
incarnated from the ocean of love.

When I suffer from loss, You, dear Master, would bless me with more intense
love to heal my sorrow. I know deeply that I will never get lost!
Many times, while walking on this path, I would have liked to turn away.
It'd be so easy to turn back to the old path and give up the present. No
one would blame me. No one would really care if I turned away. However,
how can I just turn my back and run away? It would seem so easy to just
throw away all the efforts made, and all the time You spent with me during
moments of struggle and loneliness.
Master, if You were not here to endure everything by Your physical presence,
I would have an excuse to escape and abandon the efforts made on my part.
You live to remind me that all the pressure I have is only one millionth
of Yours.
Am I remembering You at all times? Am I missing You in every second of
the day? I always know I'm immersed in Your love, but I always forget to
love You. Thanks to those who have tested me and helped me to grow, I remind
me to look into myself at every moment. Help me to be generous, patient
and loving. If I happen to be angered or annoyed, please wake me up, because
at that moment, I've slipped away from Your teachings.
The chain between You and me is always long enough. I sneak out to play
from time to time, and You always cover Your eyes, pretending nothing happened.
I pray in the hope that I will always remember to come back to Your side.
But I also understand that the chain connecting us will never be broken.

Visiting An Ancient Place of Spiritual Practice Angkor Wat

Responding to an invitation by the First Prime Minister and First Lady,
HRH Princess Marie Ranariddh, Master and Her Royal Highness visited the
ancient temple of Angkor Wat -- the pride of Cambodia. Built in a high
mountain style, this ancient temple was the capital of the ancient Great
Kingdom of Cambodia. It was built by King Chalemen VII in memory of three
sincere devotees of Brahma.
On a bright, mildly, breezy and auspicious day, Master, Princess Marie
and her daughter flew to Tou-Lee, Wuoumanzheng Province, where the ancient
temple, Angkor Wat, is located. Master and a group of disciples were accompanied
by the Cambodian Royal Guards. Upon landing, they were respectfully welcomed
by the governor of the province, a group of commentators and a guard motorcade.
As Master and the Princess passed through the airport, they drew the attention
of foreign tourists who immediately approached them to take pictures. After
a short break, Master, the Princess and their entourage boarded the waiting
vehicles; and led by the Royal Guards' vehicles, they left for Angkor Wat
in a huge parade of cars.
Angkor Wat Temple is surrounded by a moat and a wall. Although it has been
through many dynasties, many wars and years of turmoil, it has been preserved
quite well. The motorcade drove into the temple complex and stopped outside
of the ancient temple. There, Master and Princess Marie and their entourage
began their tour through the temple complex. During their walk, they encountered
stall vendors selling woven bamboo items and souvenir T-shirts. Following
the local custom, Master purchased some souvenir T-shirts and the Princess
bought some bamboo baskets to contain the fragrant flower rings as offerings
to the Buddha.
Due to its very unique construction, Angkor Wat has been listed as the
Seventh Wonder of the world. The Princess explained the magnificent ancient
temple to Master in great detail. Delicate carvings were displayed all
over the temple. Carved patterns were everywhere on the walls and almost
no spot was left untouched. Even the temple's five pointed towers were
decorated with ten thousand artistically crafted stones. There are two
thousand human-sized depictions of fairies on the wall. If these carvings
were laid flat on the ground, their length would reach sixteen hundred
meters. Since Angkor Wat's radius is equivalent to its height, the temple
looks magnificent close up and elegant from a distance.
On the way leading to the highest part of the inner hall, one has to climb
some steep, slippery steps. Master looked at them with a smile and jokingly
said that it was like being back in the Himalayas; the only difference
was that now She was wearing high heels and a skirt. The Princess kindly
offered her support to Master. It took quite a while but finally they conquered
the steps and reached the top level.
Looking down over the whole Angkor Wat area, one can view a panorama of
many hills, woods, streams and ponds; as well as a display of local traditions
and customs. At that moment, the Princess kindly wiped the perspiration
from Master's forehead with a moist paper towel, creating an intimate and
warm picture. She then suggested to Master to enter the inner hall to honor
the statue of the Buddha. Following the custom, Master and the Princess
went in without shoes.
When honoring the statue of the Buddha, Master's expression was extremely
pious and focused. The Princess then made a sincere wish, sprinkled perfumed
water, and warmly greeted the attending lay people and monks. Also, according
to tradition, she offered a long roll of white cloth to them. Master, on
the other hand, offered money. They responded to Master's and the Princess's
love with traditional auspicious phrases.
After sightseeing on the top level of this ancient complex, Princess Marie
held Master's hand as though they had been friends for many years, and
led Her on a walk down the over-one-hundred steps of the temple's stairway.
Later, on the way to a nearby restaurant, Master and the Princess went
into a small temple by the roadside to honor a statue of the Buddha. They
also offered money and rolls of white cloth to the temple's personnel.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, the restaurant employees looked at their
noble guests, who had appeared so suddenly, with pleasant surprise and
happiness in their eyes. While eating, the Princess' little daughter asked
about why one should eat a vegetarian diet, and Master answered her cordially.
On the trip back, the airplane flew over the largest lake in Cambodia.
Her Royal Highness, the Princess, held Master's hand and led Her to the
VIP cabin of the airplane to have a bird's-eye view of the lake, chatting
warmly with Her all the while. After landing at a private airport, Master
thanked all those in attendance for their service, which had been filled
with a happy spirit. She also gave each of them elegant gifts and blessed
candies; especially the two pilots, whose consummate skill won Master's
special praise.
After the trip, Master said thoughtfully, "Cambodia's royal family
members received me most courteously. It is because of their faith in Buddha
and their humility. These actions and qualities will surely bring their
country great merit." If all royal families and others in charge in
the world could respect and love the masters and receive them so courteously,
then the world would be more peaceful and the spiritual level of humankind
would be lifted one step higher.

Master Arrives To Sprinkle Nectar Water

Welcome Master To Enjoy New Year
April is the time for Thailand's New Year celebration. It is also the time
for the famed "Songkran Festival." According to Thai tradition,
people sprinkle water on each other to give blessings. Fellow initiates
in Thailand were happily preparing for the New Year celebration because
dear Master was coming. They longed for Her presence, so She would sprinkle
nectar water on them to bless them. With Master's blessing, the whole year
is sure to be lucky and happy. Even though they only had a few days to
prepare, they invited fellow practitioners from the neighboring countries.
They hoped that all could come and enjoy the happy occasion with Master.
The celebration was so dignified and beautiful, far exceeding their expectations.
The crowd gathered and sprinkled flowers along the path where Master walked,
all the way from the door of the hotel to the celebration hall. While waiting,
each heart was overflowing with love and longing for Master. They wanted
to have a look at Her the moment She entered the hall. When Master finally
appeared, She was wearing a radiant traditional Thai dress. All the hearts
bowed at Her feet, intoxicated in the sea of holy love. The opening ceremony
was short and dignified. Fellow initiates invited Master to step up to
the flower-decorated podium to sprinkle the blessed nectar water.
The Blessing From Heaven
Some of the new initiates expressed their opinions: "If you miss the
opportunity to see Master, you will regret it all your life," "Now
I understand why everyone loves to see Master," and "I believe
this blessing comes from Heaven." Even the workers at the hotel could
feel Master's love and compassion. Some of them later approached initiates
for sample booklets. Others said when they were studying abroad, they already
had heard of Master. Quite a few called home to tell their parents to come
to the party, but discovered that they already had learned about Master.
God's arrangement is always so wonderful.
Everyone was very grateful to Master for Her compassion. Because of Her
presence, the celebration was as perfect as if it was in Heaven. Master
was like God manifested in this world surrounded by angels.
A Good Time Together
Accompanied by traditional Thai music, Thai dancers brought life to the
crowd at this party. Everyone felt elated. Lovely Master was dancing with
the crowd. At first, fellow practitioners intended to amuse Her; but as
it turned out, Master was amusing us. Because of Her compassionate response
to our sincere yearning, we had the honor to come so close to Her.
Master's love illuminated the hall, bringing peace and harmony to the entire
place. Master told us that She like Thai traditions. She gave Her best
wishes to the Thai people to keep their beautiful life-style: kindness,
warmth, tenderness, hospitality and especially, treating guests with courtesy.
Even during the most joyous occasion, Master remembered to remind all about
disease prevention, sanitation, to stay in good health, and to avoid sickness
due to infections. If one became ill or even lost their life due to infections,
it's not worth it, not to mention carrying out one's responsibilities in
this lifetime.
Master's Love Is Endless
The happy times were great, but we finally still had to say good-bye. Master
was aware of our unwillingness to part, She kindly blessed the crowd at
the door, forgetting Her own fatigue to satisfy Her children's yearning.
She always gives and gives like the spring of the original water -- never
rests.

Master Tells Stories
Three Stubborn Servants
Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai at Cambodia Retreat
March 28, 1996 (Originally in Chinese)
A rich man, a billionaire, had three servants. One was very thoughtful,
one was very prudent and the other one was very polite. The rich man was
very pleased and liked them very much.
One time, the son of the rich man fell into a river by accident and was
drowning. The second servant, who was very prudent, saw this. But he was
so prudent that he went back to tell his master, "Master, your son
just fell into the river. (Audience laughs.) May I save him? (Audience
laughs.) Do you think we can save him or not? What's the best way? Both
of us must discuss it." Of course, the rich man was very angry and
threw him out.
By the time the rich man ran to save his son, it was too late. So, he ordered
the first servant who was very thoughtful to buy a coffin to bury his son.
Since this servant was a person who prepared for things that had not yet
happened, he bought two coffins. (Master and audience laugh.) He was too
thoughtful! His master was so angry and said, "I just had one son
who died, why have you bought two coffins?"
The servant replied, "In case your second son dies, maybe drowns or
any other kind of other accident, (audience laughs) we don't need to buy
again. Saves time, saves gasoline!"
That rich man was extremely angry and threw him out!
Now there was just one servant left. The one who was very polite. The rich
man was still very pleased with him. One day, he and another porter went
out sightseeing with their master by sedan-chair. On the way, they passed
a swamp where the water was not so deep. But if they crossed the water,
their clothes would get dirty and wet. The porter hesitated. He didn't
want to dirty his clothes, so he wanted to return home. However, the polite
one said, "Don't go back! As long as our master is happy, we should
go ahead. We, ourselves, are not important." Then they crossed the
water without caring about themselves.
When the master heard that his servant was so loyal to him, he was very
happy. He then said to the servant, "Since you are so thoughtful,
so devoted and so faithful to me, I will give you many new clothes and
raise your salary on arriving home."
As soon as the polite servant heard that, he put down the sedan-chair (that
was the very moment while they were standing in the middle of the river),
and answered with his palm joined, "Thank you for your goodness, master!"
(Master and audience laugh.) He was too polite.
You see, there is not much difference comparing them with my disciples,
is there? (Audience laughs.) They don't know how to see the situation and
make a move. Everyone has his own quality, but uses it in the wrong place.
You remember that Confucius had many well-known disciples. Tze-lu was very
brave and Zan-Chio was very prudent. But everyone only had his own quality.
If you are too prudent, you won't know how to relax. If you are too brave,
you won't know when to be humble. So, we know that it is not good to be
an extremist. Although they were so good, they still came to learn from
Confucius because he embodied all kinds of qualities -- brave but not too
brave, humble but not too humble. He knew how to behave under any circumstances.
He handled everything in a neutral manner and not too fanatically.
But most of us have a stiff-necked quality. If we used it in the right
place, it would be good. If we used it in the wrong place, it would be
bad. Just like we can use the electricity to light up a bulb, to make cold
or hot air; but if we touched the electricity directly, we would be in
trouble. Also, there are many remedies that can cure people; but an overdose
will be harmful. We come to this world to learn how to be perfect, so we
should have every quality and know how to use them appropriately. We can
not say that because we are very brave, then we can rush without caring
about anything. In ancient times there were many brave men who died due
to a lack of wisdom. There are many examples in the stories of "The
Feudal Regimes Of The East-Chou Dynasty." If we are brave but have
no wisdom, we can hurt ourselves and others.

Master Tells Jokes
Stinginess - Too Salty Invitation For Dinner
Once there was a stingy family that never bought any meat or fish to eat.
Every time they ate, they hung a wooden fish from the ceiling (as if it
was an edible fish preserved with salt) and everyone took one glance at
the wooden fish for each mouthful of rice he or she ate. One day, one of their children took several glances at the wooden fish
while eating a mouthful of rice. Another child saw this and said, "Dad,
look at him. He glanced several times for just one mouthful of rice."
The dad answered, "Never mind. Let him 'eat'. It's too salty and he
will die of thirst later." (Master and audience laugh.)
Once there was a person who was very stingy; he had never invited any guests
to his home for dinner. One day, another person passed by his house while
his servant was washing dishes in the lake, in front of the house. The
person was surprised and asked, "Why are you washing so many dishes
today? Is your master going to invite someone for dinner tonight?
The servant answered, "Ah! Let me tell you. He will only entertain
guests after his death."
Just at that moment the stingy person passed by and was terribly frightened
by the conversation he had just heard. He immediately scolded the servant,
"I have not died yet, so how do you know that I will entertain guests
after I die?" (Master and audience laugh.)
This stingy person was afraid that his servant would invite guests to his
house after he died.

Your outlook should be faultless. Everyone should be viewed as perfect;
this is best for us. Don't forget that each person has a perfect Buddha
inside. What else could there be inside our Master? There should be more
or less a bit of Buddha inside. (Master laughs, audience applauds.)
Hes teaches us meditation, to do ethical things, correct our bad qualities.
That, of course, is helpful to us. We can adore Hirm, and we can praise
Hirm. This is also praising ourselves, purifying ourselves. If we make
our views become faultless, become perfect, this would make ourselves become
perfect.
Why does criticizing and censuring a Master have the heaviest karma? It
is because we use the dark thinking to contaminate our thoughts. We do
not allow our thoughts to become faultless. We create karma.
It is not the Master who wants to punish us. It is not because we censure
him, then he would sue heaven. Nothing like that! It is we who have hurt
ourselves, because we think things that are black, dark and low.
If our heart is very pure, our views are faultless, then we are becoming
more and more pure, more and more faultless and more and more perfect.
The person can be imperfect, but our outlook should be perfect all the
time. Otherwise, we hurt ourselves.

Recently, several fellow practitioners that I knew passed away, and I also
felt a little bit affected. Though I know this is illusionary, I felt as
if I was lacking something.
When death occurred to the child of Marpa, Milarepa's master, he cried
so sadly that his disciples flocked around him and asked, "Master,
didn't you say that the world is only an illusion? Why are you crying so
brokenheartedly just because your son has died?"
Marpa answered them, "Yes, everything is illusionary, but the death
of a child is the greatest illusion of them all!" (Master and everyone
laugh.)
He couldn't bear it.
When the birth or death relates to us or to our relatives and friends,
our feelings are involved. Then we realize clearly that the world is indeed
ephemeral. The world is truly unreliable. If it is other people's business,
we wouldn't be so deeply affected emotionally. We might even talk lightheartedly,
"Well! Never mind! The world is ephemeral; people come and go all
the time." (Master laughs.) We may even console them. However, when
it concerns our personal feelings, or when it happens to our relatives
or friends, we will have different feelings.
Sometimes, because we, ourselves, cannot perceive the impermanence of the
world, God gives us some mishaps, using the so-called shock treatment to
awaken us. Only then will we be deeply impressed.
This world is really not a permanent place. Wars, calamities or sorrowful
situations also function as an effective but bitter medicine to help us
understand what we are here for. Whatever you want to do, then do it quickly;
otherwise, time is running out!
Only when our relatives, friends or our loved ones pass away, then we are
truly shocked and realize that it could happen to us tomorrow. At that
time, we feel we should pursue spiritual practice quickly, and understand
our inner self as soon as possible.

Rediscovering The Eternal, Great Love

While sweeping on a windy day, I gathered all the fallen leaves that were
blown everywhere into a pile so as to make it easier for them not to be
blown away again. Even the slightest leaves weaving on the pile, it won't
fly away.
I feel that it is the same with the strength from group meditations. Although
the spiritual life of an individual can still be frail, with the immense
strength derived from group meditations, one can still receive God's blessings
and be uplifted.
In the strong wind there was a butterfly clinging tightly to a fallen leaf
as its only security. Fearing that I might hurt it while I was sweeping,
I gently moved it away. After fluttering its delicate wings a few times,
it stopped on the same dry leaf again, reluctant to leave. Little did it
know that the leaf too could not withstand the bitter wind and drifted
away. When I finished sweeping, I took another look at the butterfly, and
found that its frail life had gone with the wind. It made me sigh with
pity.
It is very much the same with people who pursue fame and fortune for their
security in life. Like the butterfly clinging to a dry leaf, they too cling
to all that is fleeting, illusive and unrealistic. Only rediscovering God's
great love is the eternal security.

International Conference On Extraterrestrial Technology
And Spiritual Practice
In Costa Rica many spiritual groups know that the Supreme Master Ching
Hai International Association has a beautiful Center in Costa Rica. Recently,
the convener of the UFO Conference approached us and requested the use
of our Costa Rica Center. Their feeling was that the Costa Rica Center
is especially rich in spiritual atmosphere and enhanced by a beautiful
landscape. Besides, this place has often been visited by UFOs. Having sincerely
discussed this with us many times, fellow practitioners reported their
request to Master, asking for Her approval. Master not only gladly consented,
but also instructed us to take good care of them, and to treat them as
VIPs. Subsequently, this International Conference On Extraterrestrial Technology
And Spiritual Practice was held at the Costa Rica Center.
The Merciful And Generous Master
The convener was overwhelmed by the unexpected favor of the merciful and
generous Master upon knowing that Master had consented to let them use
the venue; the liaison person of the convening group was extremely delighted.
All the while, they thought that it would be difficult enough just to borrow
the venue, but then Master even took care of their meals and drinks, and
provided all the necessary facilities for them. They found this extremely
hard to believe. They kept asking us to confirm that they could really
use the venue. Extremely touched, they praised Master as the great enlightened
Master of the ten directions and three periods of times. To respect the
conditions and regulations of the Center, the seminar convening group screened
out all irrelevant people; almost all those who participated in the Seminar
were spiritual practitioners. Also, the guests were forbidden to smoke,
drink alcohol or bring any non-vegetarian food into the Center. This showed
their sincere attitude.
Renovation To Greet VIP Guests
To prepare for this grand occasion, fellow practitioners in Costa Rica
organized their work in three main assignments. First, the venue had to
be ready in one week. Working in cooperation, fellow practitioners elaborately
decorated the main hall. New floor tiles were put down to give the Center
a new look, while beautiful flowers garnished the serene background.
The second assignment went to the kitchen. We had never held any grand
feast before, so this was a good chance for the Costa Rican fellow practitioners
to display their talents. With Master's blessing, this feast was prepared
very successfully, including the cleaning up afterward; all the guests
highly praised the exquisite standard of Costa Rican vegetarian food.
Finally, the third assignment was preparing Master's publications. Master's
video tapes were displayed during the day break. There were also an information
desk and book circulation service available for the convenience of the
guests to inquire and purchase. From the video and cassette tapes, we selected
and made copies of Master's discourses concerning extraterrestrial beings
and all the relevant reports, and grouped them into folders for distribution
to the participants. We also prepared attractive posters publishing the
latest news about extraterrestrial beings and the content of Master's discourses
that concerned them. The guests really loved and cherished the report folders
and posters which helped them understand more than they ever could.
The Gate Of Heaven Opens For Us
On the first day of the conference, guests arrived at the Costa Rica Center
in succession. Fellow initiates were well prepared to welcome them. First,
they showed the guests around to get familiar with the place and helped
them to set up their tents.
Then, during the welcome ceremony, fellow initiates introduced Master to
them; some Quan Yin Messengers specifically rushed to Costa Rica from Peru
to help. We emphasized the upcoming Golden Age, and that Supreme Master
Ching Hai is the spiritual leader of this era. Through Her, people can
obtain enlightenment, liberation in one lifetime, and deep wisdom and love.
The people who attended the conference all believed what the Bible said,
that the Kingdom of God is boundless and infinite, and that it can accommodate
all sentient beings. Fellow initiates went on to stress the fact that we
are gathered here today to realize that God creates everyone equally, we
should live in peace and harmony; in fact, the world is one big family;
we should avoid narrow-minded individualism, distinguishing you and me.
We should reconstruct the Earth together, to facilitate the uplifting of
civilization and to realize the great spiritual level of becoming one with
God.
Later on, the convener of the conference delivered a speech. Everyone present
felt that the Center was enveloped in Master's supreme blessing, which
created an auspicious, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere that permeated
in everyone's heart. All the guests felt like they were bathing in a spring
breeze, as if the heavenly gate had opened, welcoming them. The comfort
and bliss they experienced were incomparable and indescribable. The peaceful
atmosphere comforted everyone's heart, and all felt intoxicated.
Then, the speakers (from USA, Spain, Columbia, Puerto Rico, Argentina and
Brazil) delivered their speeches, reporting the latest information about
extraterrestrial beings.
The Golden Age Is Approaching
They all believed that Costa Rica would be the key communication station.
They all also agreed that our first priority at present is to uplift the
Earth's vibrational frequency and promote the enhancement of the consciousness
of human civilization. Human beings should develop great love and a spirit
of cooperation to fulfill this sacred task.
According to their information, extraterrestrial beings repeatedly sent
messages trying to approach the Earth in the hope of broadening the mutual
understanding between the two civilizations. One of the speakers said,
"Prophets have predicted the arrival of the Golden Age. A beam of
strong light has already descended from the heavens. Shooting a flame like
a torch, the silver light shines upon the Earth. If the Earth's sentient
beings have affinity with the light, they will naturally become one with
the heavenly level of existence. Thus, Earth human and extraterrestrial
beings will live in harmony. Those who have no affinity with the light,
or whose affinity time has not yet arrived, will be naturally superseded.
Not only human beings need to uplift their spiritual levels, even extraterrestrial
beings also desire to increase their own vibrational frequency. They also
increasingly have been trying to communicate with Earth humans and promote
the understanding between each other. They hope the grand cosmic harmony
and reunion will arrive soon."
Everyone at the conference was fully aware of the importance of such uplifting
of the level of human consciousness. However, they did not know how to
increase the vibrational frequency. We took this opportunity to contact
the convenor, requesting a special time where we could introduce the Quan
Yin Method and how to increase the vibrational frequency. The guests immediately
supported our proposal and wanted to understand more about Master's teachings.
The seminar was delivered by Quan Yin Messengers and won thunderous applause
from the audience.
Afterwards, everyone prayed in silence, trying to spread the message and
communicate with the extraterrestrial brothers. Through meditation and
the unified consciousness of the whole group there, they sent the message
of peace and conveyed the loving power to the boundless galaxy.
The next morning, some of the guests saw the extraterrestrial flying saucers
in flying formation. They became more convinced that the Costa Rica Center
is a true place for spiritual practice. They personally felt the strong
vibrations in the meditation center. It's really inconceivable. Therefore,
some guests asked to join our group right then and there. Some hoped to
enhance the cooperation between our group and theirs. All guests experienced
special bliss and love from Master. Judging from their expressions when
they were leaving, fellow initiates were happy for their successful spiritual
harvest.
Perfect Spiritual Communication
The master of ceremony, Elias, repeatedly thanked Master for Her loving
care. He hoped that in the next conference, they could invite Master and
the most renowned ufologists to speak, to make future conferences more
exciting and colorful. The most successful aspect of this conference was
that most guests had many inner experiences. They kept praising the beauty
of the mediation center. Meanwhile, they hoped to come to visit us often
in order to learn more about Master's teachings. Through this conference,
Master's love and teachings were conveyed much quicker.
Through this event, fellow practitioners also experienced a lesson in helping
others. Having the chance to serve our fellow human beings is our greatest
honor, helping them understand that heaven is within us and opening up
their inner power to use effectively with Master's love to promote peace
and harmony of humankind. We thank Master for giving us the opportunity
to become a good instrument to do all this.

technology and Spiritual Practice" were very enthusiastic in seeing
and buying Master's books.
In the "International Conference on Extraterrestrial Technology and
Spiritual Practice," the calm and serene atmosphere sooth the hearts
of the audience.
When the VIPs knew that the Quan Yin Method could raise the energy of vibration,
they became extremely interested.
During the seminars of the Conference, the VIPs were enthusiastically discussing
on how to raise the spiritual levels of mankind.

Happily Establishing A Spiritual Place
After years of yearning, fellow practitioners in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
and southern districts of New Jersey finally have a place of their own
for meditation. Everyone was excited and actively helped in preparing the
meditation center. Within a short period of time, the Center was well set-up
and well-equipped. All fellow practitioners were most grateful to be able
to have this spiritual place to practice.
Now that the Center is in good working order, there are two sessions of
group meditation each week, including one session set aside for would-be
initiates to practice the Convenient Method. On the third Sunday afternoon
of each month, the Center is opened to guests who are interested in Master's
teachings and to watch Her videos. Furthermore, the last Sunday of each
month is allocated for one-day retreats.
At the same time, according to Master's loving instructions, there are
regular visits to poor families to present them gifts and Master's sample
booklet; the homeless are also given delicious vegetarian meals, drinks
and some spiritual food -- the exquisite sample booklet.
Although the Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey Center is still in a
developing stage, fellow practitioners are trying their best to promote
Master's teachings. With the hard work of fellow initiates and Master's
blessings, the future will be better.
We Are All One
On Sundays for a few weeks, fellow initiates in Arizona delivered items
such as blankets, towels and toiletries to the homeless and the poor people
in the Phoenix area. Regardless of race or creed, the people that received
gifts included Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics and native Americans.
During one of their love-spreading trips, the Arizona fellow initiates
met dozens of native Americans gathered on a sidewalk. When Master's love
was lovingly and sincerely delivered with gifts and food, these people
were pleasantly surprised and grateful. Afterward, fellow initiates and
the native brothers and sisters shared the food and God's blessings like
one big family.
Much later that day, under the cover of darkness, fellow initiates arrived
in the downtown area. Delighted to see the fellow initiates, hundreds of
homeless people rushed over to them and orderly lined up to receive Master's
gifts. Many people asked them where the gifts came from, and they replied,
"These are gifts for you from God." Watching them enjoying the
food, fellow initiates could not help being moved and filled with love
for humanity.
Many homeless people sincerely expressed their gratitude as they received
the gifts. This made fellow initiates feel more connected deep within their
hearts, and realize that they all are one. The experience and lesson that
Master had bestowed upon them, to enhance their love, was indeed something
precious.
Master's Love Is The Source Of All Love
In order to bring Master's love to everyone, both materially and spiritually,
the Oklahoma Center started a program of extending help to the homeless
people in their surrounding areas. With the positive cooperation of fellow
practitioners, the task was completed in a timely manner.
On the eve of the event, when the weather was still unseasonably cold,
fellow practitioners gathered at the Center to prepare the gift bags. Included
in each bag were spiritual gifts, as well as other gifts -- copies of the
sample booklet and bi-monthly Supreme Master Ching Hai News, a blanket,
sweater, toothpaste, toothbrush, hand-towel and a pair of socks.
Early the next morning, all participating fellow practitioners meditated
together for three hours to pray to Master for Her blessings, so the task
could be carried out smoothly, with the gift bags reaching the hands of
those in need. After the meditation session, fellow practitioners then
prepared lunch, which included vegetarian spring rolls, a most favorite
Asian delicacy among Americans, to be distributed to the homeless. Since
everyone was so busy working and listening to Master's tape, no one paid
any attention to the time; and everyone was surprised to discover that
the task was completed so quickly.
When fellow practitioners arrived at the designated place, they found the
homeless people had already gathered there. The representative fellow practitioner
began by introducing Master as a world spiritual leader who was awarded
an Honorary American Citizenship. It was also mentioned that Master had
rendered help to people in many places around the world, including the
victims of the bombing in Oklahoma City a year ago. In conclusion, he conveyed
to them Master's love and concern.
At the end, as fellow practitioners were distributing the gift bags, food
and beverages with attentive loving care to the homeless people, an expression
of joy and delight was most evident on their faces. There was also a man
who curiously asked fellow practitioners many questions about Master and
about the reason which inspired them to bring him the nice gifts despite
the difference in race and color. When he discovered that Master's love
is unconditional and without discrimination, expecting nothing in return,
he was impressed and grateful to know that there is someone such as Master
in the world. With heartfelt gratitude, the homeless people sincerely thank
Master for Her love and concern for them.
Thank You, Master, for giving us an opportunity to work together. Indeed,
there were many good experiences and valuable lessons for each of us. Besides,
we are also extremely grateful to You for giving us the most precious method,
and for building the Quan Yin family in this peaceful Oklahoma City. In
the future, we will try to undertake more social outreach programs as a
way of bringing Your love to all people.
The Secret Of Uplifting Our Soul
When fellow initiates at the Tokyo Center heard that the Au Lac refugees
in Ohmura, Nagasaki-Ken (south of Japan) needed some warm clothes for the
winter, they immediately sent clothes and other necessities to them.
In the beginning, they thought they were just following Master's instructions
to help people in need. However, a few days later, unexpectedly they received
a thank-you letter. The fellow practitioners were deeply touched by the
refugees' purity and gratitude.
By witnessing the suffering of the refugees, they realized that helping
others is actually helping themselves; their mind was broadened and their
spiritual practice also improved a great deal. They finally realized that
helping others is the secret of uplifting their souls.
They are grateful that Master had offered them a chance to learn and grow.
Fellow initiates in Tokyo will continue to help those who are in need.

First, we would like to express our gratitude. We very much appreciate
your gifts, especially the warm clothes for the winter. This is the fifth
time that we have received gifts from your organization. According to your
instruction, we have already distributed the gifts to the people in the
refugee camp.
We left our country, our community, wandering in foreign lands, and your
love and enthusiasm has warmed our hearts. All of us in the refugee camps
are very appreciative of your assistance, and sincerely thank you.
On behalf of the Au Lac boat people, we wish you good health, both physically
and spiritually.
Master's Saintly Love Soars Over The Land
Responding to the "Love in Jia-Yi" Bazaar sponsored by the Tong-Chi
Association, the local meditation center in Jia-Yi set up the "Spiritual
Banquet" and "Health Food with Love" booths to spread Master's
saintly love. The exhibits included various vegetarian delicacies, as well
as Master's paintings, Celestial Clothes, longevity lamps, photographs,
books, video tapes, audio tapes, etc. The Supreme Master Ching Hai booths
quickly became the focus of the entire bazaar. Video tapes were played
and attracted many people of good affinity to stop and watch.
One of the guests was very happy and told an initiate that his friend,
who was teaching in the Social Science Department in a college and was
very respectful of Master, had asked him to find out how to get in touch
with Master. He never thought he would find us here.
One long term resident in a temple missed the chartered bus a few years
ago and the chance to get initiated, but he continued to keep his faith
in Master. He was very happy to see Supreme Master Ching Hai's booths here
and earnestly purchased various cassette tapes and photographs to take
home.
Many people who liked Master very much but didn't know much about Her teachings
asked fellow initiates questions and were rather reluctant to leave. Master's
paintings, longevity lamps and large photographs also attracted many to
come and admire.
The vegetarian food was also insufficient for the demand. Seeing the large
crowd, fellow initiates all joined in to help and soon more dumplings,
sushi, hand-rolls, etc., were prepared with Master's blessing, all enjoyed
the feeling of selfless service and all-are-one state.
Fellow initiates in Jia-Yi introduces Master's teachings in a bazaar, spreading
Master's saintly love and care to the local folks.

Au Lac Asylum Seekers Received Soul Comfort...through Buddhist chanting
tapes given by the Changhua Center of Supreme Master Ching Hai International
Association.
[Reporter Liao Cai Ling reporting from Fangyuan] After their fishing boat
had run aground, the seventeen Au Lac asylum seekers were accommodated
at the Wang Gong Fish Port Outpost of the Er Lin Police Precinct in Changhua.
In these several days, they tasted the intense sympathetic feelings of
the Formosan people. Apart from material things given to them from outside,
some religious people had given them Au Lac Buddhist chanting tapes, hoping
to provide soul reliance to their restless hearts.
Ever since these Au Lac asylum seekers were taken in by the Wang Gong Fish
Port Outpost, despite their inevitable fate of facing repatriation, these
days (for over a month) were their best clothed and fed time. To relieve
the agitation and anxiety of these helpless souls in a strange land, members
from the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, Changhua Center
went to comfort them at nine o'clock yesterday morning.
Aside from bringing them pendants with Supreme Master Ching Hai's photos,
members from the Center also brought to them cassette tape recorders and
Au Lac tapes spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai. Perhaps they missed their
native language for a long time, when the asylum seekers heard the Buddhist's
scripture chanting played on the cassette tapes, they couldn't help chanting
along, which made the members from the Center very happy, too.
Members from the Center further expressed that they would contact fellow
practitioners from the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association
who can speak the Au Lac language to visit them to find out their genuine
needs, hoping to help them out of their distressful situation sooner.
Au Lac Boat People Meet Old Friends In A Strange Country
Fellow practitioners in Changhua learned from the media that some Au Lac
asylum seekers, after their fishing boat went aground, were now accommodated
at the Wang Gong Fishing Port Outpost of the Er Lin Police Precinct in
Changhua. They immediately went to visit them. Besides bringing along clothing,
sleeping bags and food, the most precious thing that they delivered to
these friends lost in a strange land was Master's love.
The military and police personnel warmly welcomed the visit of fellow practitioners,
and hoped that their concern could ease the anxiety and fear of these helpless
asylum seekers.
In the outpost, fellow practitioners played Au Lac songs sung by Master.
Upon hearing these familiar native songs, the asylum seekers felt like
they were meeting old friends in a strange land, and were most delighted.
When receiving Master's sample booklets in Au Lac language, the asylum
seekers' representative immediately knelt down and bowed to Master's photo
with veneration. Simultaneously, several asylum seekers claimed that they
knew about Master. Instantly, Her love warmed everyone's heart and also
comforted their anxiety of being lost in a strange country. They wasted
no time in reading the books, and in wearing the pendants with Master's
pictures. A four-year-old girl even danced with excitement.
Touched by this heartwarming scene, a police officer standing by said,
"They have finally found the Quan Yin Bodhisattva in their hearts."
Before they parted, fellow practitioners and asylum seekers sang the holy
hymn "Hallelujah" together. Though they could not understand
each other's language, Master's love and concern had truly merge their
inner feelings.
Master And Disciples Greet The New Year In A Happy Gathering
During Master's visit, it happened to be the Cambodian New Year. Fellow
initiates in Cambodia seized this great opportunity to extend a courteous
invitation to Master to have dinner at the vegetarian restaurant opened
by fellow initiates. Finding it difficult to decline their sincere invitation,
Master accepted and also allowed the local fellow initiates to join Her
for the dinner, to celebrate the New Year together.
The S.M. Vegetarian Restaurant was opened by fellow initiates in Cambodia
who, inspired by Master's love, sincerely want to offer natural and healthy
food to the Cambodian people. It became the first vegetarian restaurant
in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. When Master arrived at the restaurant,
which was already packed with fellow initiates, She asked smilingly what
would happened if someone came in for a meal. The fellow initiates replied
humorously, "We have a full house today!"
Master affably laughed and joke with the fellow initiates; with a stream
of witty remarks, She made them laugh continuously.
In order to give Her blessings to the cooks, Master visited the kitchen
and gave candies and red envelopes with lucky New Year's money in them
to the staff. She praised that the food was delicious.
All of the fellow initiates were very grateful for Master's love and care.
A warm and joyful New Year Festival atmosphere pervaded every corner of
the restaurant.

Why Do Artists Like To Sleep More
Through research, it was discovered that people who sleep more than average
are more introverted; but they are more creative. Artists are relatively
languid and slow in their movements.
Musicians also seem to be lazier and like to sleep more. They are not as
active, and do not get excited or make friends easily. They don't like
a hustle and bustle environment or crowds, and prefer to be alone. They
can do temporary work that takes short periods of time, but can not have
enough patience to execute large plans. They don't have the patience and
interest.
Artists do not like to engage themselves in ordinary work. They do not
care for the nine-to-five office working life, or some sort of grand plan.
Most artists are poor financially. Is it not so? (Audience: Yes!) So, we
call them "artists".
Part of the reason that they sleep so much is that their dreams are longer
than those of the average person. People who sleep only very little have
shorter dreams. (Audience laughs.) It is said that: the more introverted
one is, the more complicated one's subconsciousness will be -- more complex
than the lively and active people. Therefore, they must have more sleep
in order to solve their so-called psychological problems.
Now, those who sleep a lot have an excuse to do so. (Audience laughs.)
I have provided you with such good information (audience laughs), so you
know how to reply. We should no longer be afraid of others accusing us
of sleeping too much, and there is no need to have a guilty conscience.
(Audience laughs.)
The Inner Awareness
However, if we do not sleep for more than seventy-two hours, we will find
that we change a lot. We cannot concentrate and think, act energetically
or display our intelligence, and we feel rather dull and obtuse. Our reactions
are so slow, and we can't do anything about it. We don't know how to react.
There was a man who saw that his master did not have any sleep for days.
He also observed that other masters were more or less the same; and even
if they slept, it wouldn't be for too long. It is because true masters
have become one with the inner awareness. They are connected to it, so
they don't have to sleep.
Sometimes I was very busy with my work and did not notice that my attendant
was very tired. He kept nodding, and I didn't realize it. Then he asked
for a leave, in order to have a retreat; and I didn't know why. (Audience
laughs.) He was with me for only a few days and he wanted to have a retreat,
because he couldn't take it anymore! I didn't understand.
Now I know, after having read this book. (Audience laughs.) From now on,
if you want to have a retreat and have some sleep, you can remind me. The
true masters can work from within for twenty-four hours a day. No problem!
Three or four hours of sleep is enough for them. If the situation requires,
they can also go without any sleep.
The Path To Being Happy
Some spiritual practitioners are very contented, lively and at ease, because
nothing is stuck in their minds. They are more ingenuous, and do not feel
any restrictions or pressure. Therefore, they don't need much sleep, and
still remain very relaxed and energetic. It truly is so.
If you recall, when we were happy, cheerful, no matter for what reasons,
no matter if we were with friends, husband, wife or children, we could
chat happily all through the night. Even though we only slept for one or
two hours, we still felt that we were full of energy. When we were miserable,
carrying a guilty conscience, or when karma came, we felt very, very tired,
no matter how much we slept. That was why I told you this morning to relax,
relax, and relax!
Love your family, truly love them, and they will love you, too. Then, due
to this love, we will feel very lively and happy. It will be easy for us
to accept people from outside, and to love others. Try it when you return
home. This is the path to being happy. (Applause)
Turn Your Family Into A Heaven
Most people owe their success in their career to having a secure family.
Members of their families have more affection for each other. They are
more united and cooperative, and not complicated. Both the husband and
wife give a harmonious atmosphere, so they are not easily affected by the
trials outside. They are also not easily troubled. When we are happy, we
do not mind about others' mistakes as much. We are not concerned or troubled.
If we refuse the love from our families, refuse the love from people close
to us, then we will not be successful in whatever we do. We will feel so
miserable that we cannot bear even ourselves; and of course, we cannot
bear other people.
The disorders and troubles in society all come from dissonance at home.
It is because we don't have good friends who are willing to make sacrifices,
to offer sympathy to each other, accept each other, and respect each other.
We don't have anyone who truly knows us well and can be a friend for life.
Understand? (Audience: Yes!)
That was why I said not to turn your home into a hell. Because we live
in it, we need to look after it, organize it, repair it, make it look beautiful
and turn it into a heaven. It is not out of compassion or brotherly love
that we love others. We love others because we want to be comfortable and
happy. The more we offer our love to others, the more others will love
us. When all the people love each other, how comfortable that will be!

Front Line
God's Nectar Spread Over South Africa

Ever since I landed in South Africa, I only have thanks and praises for
being a witness of the way Master and Her holy teachings touch people and
brings light, love and joy into their lives. Master's work is like a chain
of miracles leading one to different souls in various places who are waiting
for the Truth and a chance to practice its essence. Now that South Africa's inner conflicts have lessened, its people are beginning
to focus on something higher than the daily problems around them. As their
minds elevate spiritually, many are getting their chance to contact Master's
teachings. It is a breath of fresh air for them to find someone whose love
is unconditional and teaching a path so logical and high.
With Master's blessing, I arrived at the right time. An "Exploring
Consciousness" film festival was about to begin. It showed various
films on different spiritual practices, philosophies and livelihoods. This
brought many truth seekers to the venue. Master's books that were displayed
there were viewed with great interest throughout the two-week period of
the festival. The organizers of the event also took copies of Master's
lecture videos to show at the next festival.
One day, I took the time to drive out into the countryside to visit a small
spiritual community called "the Center" to ask permission to
display Master's books at their monthly "Mind Fair." Not only
was this granted but the sister who greeted me, after a few questions,
also became interested in Master's teachings. By the time our conversation
ended, she was convinced God had sent me to deliver this message and promptly
applied for the Convenient Method, initiation, and became vegetarian, as
well as invited me to speak at one of their weeklys meeting for their guests
and members.
At the conclusion of the presentation on Master and Her teachings, nearly
all of those who were present had signed up for the Convenient Method,
became vegetarian, and are now awaiting initiation.
After my visit to that community, I was able to arrange another lecture
with the Theosophical Society. Members of this society focus mainly on
the teachings and truths of many ascended Masters. The Theosophical Society
also hold weekly lectures but these are booked two months in advance. Since
my time was limited, I needed to have a lecture showing as soon as possible.
Fortunately, after phoning the society's president, I discovered that one
guest speaker had just canceled and they were grateful to have Master's
teachings shared there on the same date. Unexpectedly, the SABC (South
African Broadcasting Company) turned out to film the lecture as well.
During the presentation on Master and Her teachings, the venue was packed
and at its conclusion many rushed up to ask more questions or apply for
the Convenient Method or initiation. One sister had already received a
copy of Master's sample booklet at the film festival and delayed calling
us for more information despite her interest. Later, she attended the Theosophical
Society's lecture, expecting to hear the guest speaker formerly scheduled.
However, when she saw Master's picture she then realized it was the same
as that on the sample booklet. She immediately took this as a sign from
God, decided to practice the Quan Yin method, and applied for initiation.
Another sister saw light coming from the video screen, filling the whole
room so that she could barely see Master's face.
At the conclusion of the lecture, the president stood up and urged those
who attended to get in contact with this "light and sound" of
creation, remarking that she knew it could only be God's great arrangement
to have Master's teachings shown there. She later stated to me that the
lecture was a success and asked when I could do a part two. She then told
me she would now pray to Supreme Master Ching Hai for she had long prayed
to the Masters of the past and had not received any response. We later
found this sister meditating on Master's picture after everyone had left.
After the SABC had interviewed us, the reporter finally parted us.
Still now there are many people appearing at the Center to learn more about
Master's teachings and apply for initiation or the Convenient Method as
the result of one simple lecture.

Living In A Group Will Decrease The Ego

When we work together with other people, we would have a sense of participation
and then we will be able to feel the happy atmosphere of the group. If
we only stand on one side and watch, then we will easily criticize other
people's action. "Why does he laugh like a silly person?" "Why
did that person keep crying when he saw Master? Why is it that he/she wanted
to embrace Master?" We, ourselves, cannot be active, only able to
see the bad areas, unable to be compassionate with his feelings.
A group has a group's atmosphere, everyone has his/her atmosphere. When
we act together with a group, the ego is easily lost. When everyone is
happy, we are also happy. Seeing others happy I also become happy. It does
not matter whether we have the same thing or not. When other people are
happy in seeing Master, I am also happy for him. In seeing Master, a loving
heart is bestowed upon him. We, ourselves, also have the same feeling of
being bestowed upon with a loving heart from Master. That is a real practitioner,
a real selfless person. There is no ego, no "me". When we have
this ego, we have more suffering. We think the world should be following,
chasing us from behind, should be serving us, should know our mood and
what is happening today with us. Nonsense!
We, just one person, are not that important. Why should others take care
of us? What good have we done for society? Having not served anyone. What
sort of earth-shaking good deeds have we done that we are worthy of being
taken care of by others, to match our mood, to see what time we are glad,
what time we are happy. What nonsense!

Why do we have to serve others as slaves? Why are we not liberated from
transmigration life after life? It is because we bind ourselves. We are
too weak and cowardly, and cannot think of any new things. We can only
repeat other people's opinions, worship their ideas, and follow their directives.
Our spirit is not fresh and lively; we didn't seek our own path; we have
no self-confidence.
If you really want anything, Master will help you. There is nothing that
the Master wouldn't give you, if you sincerely want it, and without feeling
guilty or shameful. Just ask for it sincerely. For most of us, we want
to demand many things, but we do not ask for them clearly. We do not ask
truthfully; we don't have the courage and sincerity; we are bound by preconceptions,
so we dare not make the demand. Even when we do ask for it, we feel guilty
and shameful, so we cannot get the benefit. Whatever we want, ask for it
distinctly. Knowing that we have the right to make the demand, that we
are entitled to it. Then it is all right. We really will get it, very simply,
easily and smoothly.
Quan Yin Method Is So Powerful

Why is the Quan Yin Method so powerful? Because it opens up the vital point
inside, allowing us to become one with our master, to become one with God.
We allow our own self, God or Buddha nature, to come out to take care of
our daily living, to come out to educate us, to remind us of who is our
original self, and to remind us of the wisdom inside. That is why it is
so powerful! To call gods, ghosts, monks, masters or whoever the highest
instructor to teach us, will never be as good as to call upon ourselves
to teach ourselves.
God Only Gives What You Truly Need

Our Father will give us everything that we need. If we don't need, but
we think we need and we ask, God doesn't give. Whenever we pray and we
get it, that means okay, that thing is good for us and we should have it.
Another thing, if we pray and we don't get it, then be contented; that
is no good for you in the future, or as soon as you obtain that you'll
lose something else, you endanger yourself, or you fall into some other
even worse situation.

I Am In Heaven Transformed By Love It Is Wonderful To Be Accompanied By A True Master The Supreme Kung-Fu

I have rarely cried before, but now every time I think of Master or watch
Her video tapes, tears just keep rolling down my cheeks. These are tears
of happiness because my soul knows that it has been saved.
Many times I felt discouraged because I could not concentrate in my meditation,
and thought I was not improving. However, when I talked to people outside,
I realized my efforts were not in vain. Even though I do not practice diligently,
Master still takes care of me.
I do not have visions in my meditation. However, Master always comes in
my sleep to comfort me. In everyday life, whenever I encounter difficulties,
I always feel Master's manifestation body helping me. Many times, I feel
very depressed living in a noisy and complicated surrounding. My mind is
so tense, as if it's going to explode. But this could be the best arrangement
for me, because adverse circumstances can help us develop our confidence.
Master is my best teacher, no matter how She transforms, I always love
Her. My husband and I are still the same; we go to work and take care of
our children. But now, we understand that we have to try our best to fulfill
our duties as well as to practice diligently according to Master's instructions.
Then, we will be liberated. We do not worry as before.
We are grateful that God has sent us our Master to teach human beings the
correct way of living, to help those who have affinity with Her to return
to the Kingdom of God, and to bless the world with love.
Peace will be here if all of us can practice the Quan Yin Method. Then,
the world will become a heavenly paradise.

All of the fellow initiates love Master, especially in my case. Ever since
initiation, in order to be closer to the inner Master, I have always meditated
two-and-a-half hours everyday. Whenever I encounter difficulties and want
to give up meditating, I am always encouraged by Master's teaching, so
I can persist and endure all the ups and downs, pass the test of karma,
and further improve myself.
Master's incredible love smoothed out all my past resentment, complaints
and ignorant perceptions, so that I could recover from my hurt and pain,
and greet the future with faith. Before initiation, I read in the Bible
that Jesus said, "to love our enemies0", but at that time I thought
that it was a difficult thing to do. Now, I can easily forgive and even
love those who hurt me. Even I am surprised by this amazing change.
Once, because of bodily discomfort, I complained to the inner Master, "Didn't
you say the Quan Yin Method can cure all ills? Why do I feel so sick?"
Immediately afterward, I played Master's lecture tape, and Master was saying,
"Practicing the Quan Yin Method will cure the sickness of greed, anger,
attachment, ignorance and the desire for worldly fame and fortune..."
What Master meant was much more encompassing, including the spiritual aspect,
yet I was only worrying about the external physical body. I felt so ashamed
then.
Now, I feel so serene and happy. Master, You have changed my whole life;
I feel like being born again. Every time I think of You, I always feel
so grateful. Because of You, my dear Master, there is no regret in my life.

At the time when I was experiencing the worst in health and luck, several
friends took my entire family to Master for initiation. This changed my
life forever.
Studying Master's teachings is something very often I find it difficult
to stop once I have started. It makes me feel deeply touched that my heart
is linked to Master's. I am in awe of Her wisdom and moved by Her kindness.
Whenever I encounter a pressure or anxiety in life, Master's warm and gentle
words, much like a beacon, guide me out of the abyss of my turmoil. Bathed
and nourished by the abundance of invaluable teachings, my greed, dislikes
and craving for material comforts have gradually lessened.
I used to become sad or apprehensive very easily, which eventually led
to my poor health and frail character. Now, I am happy and contented, with
my face rosy and spirit glowing. When I come upon a disagreeable person
or matter, my mind remains calm without a single wave. Master has said,
"Letting go makes one feel most relaxed." Now, I truly am able
to savor the taste of that! It is so wonderful to be accompanied by a true
Master. She not only saves my mind from its turmoil, but also elevates
my soul. I dearly love this spiritual Mother of mine, and I am grateful
to Her for looking after me from within and without.
Recently, when I went to my parents' place and my mother saw how healthy
and happy I was, she surprised me by saying, "Daughter! Your Master
is really good! She could change you this way!" It was because her
daughter, who was once on the verge of losing her life, has now turned
out to be so lively. My mother finally does not worry about me anymore.
She even occasionally reminds me, "Daughter! Your Master dresses so
beautifully. You should also wear nicer clothes like Her!" My wish
is that one day soon my dear mother can join me to bathe in Master's holy
love.

Several years ago, brother Liang attended one of Master's lectures in Sun
Yet San Memorial Hall in Feng-San. Afterwards, he purchased one of Her
photographs and hung it in his own kung-fu gymnasium. Suddenly, he saw
the entire room lit up with spiritual light. Overcome with joy, brother
Liang became a vegetarian. He then purchased the entire set of books entitled
"The Key of Immediate Enlightenment." After reading them all,
he was even more convinced about following the spiritual path. Shortly
after, his entire family went to Hsihu Center, Miaoli to be initiated.
Brother Liang has been a kung-fu practitioner for ten years, since he started
at age seventeen. He is proficient in western style boxing, Tai Kwan Do,
Tai Chi Chuan, etc. He is also a disciple of the Kun-Lun Fairy Sect and
is a practitioner of Chi Kung. Because he liked to help the ill and the
weak, he also learned to practice Chinese medicine.
Before learning the Quan Yin Method, brother Liang used to be very blunt
and hot-tempered. With his accomplishments in Kung-Fu, he was somewhat
arrogant. However, several years after initiation, his bad temper has disappeared.
He has become more relaxed and easy going. He often jokes around. Now,
his home atmosphere has become more peaceful and his daughter actually
dares to kid around with him.
While talking about the major changes in his explosive temper, brother
Liang recalls one particular incident that left him with the deepest impression.
A few years ago, Hsihu Center had a metal-roofed meditation hall. Everyone
had to take off their shoes before entering. At one major group meditation,
he was on duty as guard. One of the visitors would not remove his shoes
and was trying to force his way into the meditation hall. Brother Liang
tried to convince him to follow the rules. The guest not only wouldn't
comply, but also became angry at him. He even picked up a stick and tried
to hit brother Liang with it. At that time, brother Liang didn't get upset
at all, and left with the other guards in order to avoid escalating the
situation. Brother Liang said that if he had run into such a situation
before he started spiritual practice, that person would have been in big
trouble. He was also surprised at such a big change within himself. Moreover,
such a change was so spontaneous and unconstrained.
Before initiation, brother Liang wished that his gymnasium would prosper
and earn more money. However, after practicing Quan Yin Method, he naturally
does not have much attachment to money. After a period of time he even
stopped practicing Chinese medicine and started to teach Tai Chi Chuan
and Chi Kung so that he could have more time for meditation. Due to his
long years of practicing kung-fu, brother Liang had accumulated a great
deal of internal injuries. Ever since he began his spiritual practice,
he has lost some weight; but his health seems to have improved a lot. Not
just him only, his whole family's health also has improved.
After experiencing the changes both physically and spiritually, brother
Liang feels that the Quan Yin Method is the supreme Kung-Fu. Under Master's
loving blessings and through his own efforts, he has come to the understanding
that Master also takes good care of his family. He also realizes that all
incidents in one's life are due to karma. He wants to practice even more
diligently to repay Master for Her blessings.
