A Soldier's New Life

I made a friend in the armed forces. He was in a predicament due to some mental pressure that could not be understood by others. He felt so hopeless that he decided to take his own life. Fortunately, due to the help of medics, his life was saved. After that, he stayed in bed for several days.

It was during the time of his recovery that I became acquainted with him. I sympathized with him. He was pushed to the limit. He felt so miserable, helpless and hopeless. No one around him ever sincerely paid attention to him or cared about him. I thought about Master's boundless love; and without hesitation, I took out one of Master's News magazines, which I had brought with me for him to read. When he read the article, "The Fallen Angels Of Our Era," he felt as if it were his own story. Besides comforting and guiding him, I also listened to him carefully. Most importantly, I told him what Master once said, "A person who commits suicide will fall into a very deep and dark place, very difficult to save." I hoped he would not hurt himself again. All I could do was to teach him to recite Master's name and believe in Master's power of compassion, which could save his wounded soul.

Unfortunately, since he was a soldier, trying to kill himself was like attempting to damage the property of his country. Consequently, he had to serve time in confinement. The day he left, I felt so sad. I held back my tears and helplessly watched him leave. From that day, I prayed to Master each day, "Master, I hope You will take care of him. I believe You will make the best arrangement for him."

When he was in confinement, he thought about killing himself again several times. But, Master's power of compassion always prevails at the most crucial moments and turns things around. After several tries, he gradually forgot about the thought of suicide. He remembered that I taught him to recite Master's name, and tried to do so.

My friend came back after a couple of weeks. He looked very excited. He told me that when he recited Master's name while he was in detention, he saw the light. He also saw Master's transformation body in the form of a little monk dressed in a robe, looking so benevolent and kind like the Quan Yin Bodhisattva. He also saw Master wearing a red mandarin dress just like the one on the cover photograph of one of the latest News magazines. He also saw a lotus flower which symbolizes holiness and the Quan Yin Bodhisattva, Boy Shan-Tsai and Little Dragon Girl. The Quan Yin Bodhisattva was sometimes standing and sometimes sitting, and at other times flying on top of a dragon, so beautiful and graceful. When he first saw them, he thought it was just his imagination. Several times, he would open his eyes and when he closed them again, he saw the same scene.

From then on, he gradually eliminated his intention to kill himself. He started to think, "I have to carry on, not despise my life, not do stupid things again, never, absolutely not." Such thoughts became stronger and stronger, allowing him to survive the unbearable days in detention!

This friend said that he really appreciated Master keeping him company! How fortunate for the sentient beings to have an enlightened Master's presence in this world.

A Universal Pass

People in modern times carry many documents. The most important one being an identity card to prove who they are. But for the Quan Yin practitioners, there is another really important, very valuable document -- the initiate's identity card. With it, you can attend group meditation and retreat activities at any of our meditation centers in the world. Besides, it has an additional wonderful use. It can be used to get through difficult situations easily.

It has been said that several fellow initiates have used their initiates' identity cards instead of their driver's licenses when there was no other alternative. The following are their real stories.

Once brother Zhuang went to help display posters for Master's lecture in Korea. He was responsible for driving while others posted the posters for Master's lecture along the way. Suddenly, a policeman approached him. Brother Zhuang discovered that he did not have a passport, international driver's license or any other document with him, except his initiate's identity card. When the policeman asked for his documents, he thought, "Since I do not have anything, I might as well give my initiate's identity card a try!" Surprisingly, the policeman, after looking at the card, gave a salute and left.

Another time, similarly, a brother was driving a car as a guard following Master's car. In order to keep pace with Master's car, he overtook other cars several times. As a result, he was stopped by a policeman. This brother also did not have any documents except his initiate's identity card. From the moment the policeman inspected the identity card, he seemed to be in samadhi. He then returned the identity card to the brother and let him leave without even a word. The brother is still puzzled and unclear as to why he could get through so easily.

Sister Chen's car was once towed away. When she went to get back her car, she discovered that she did not have the car ownership, her driver's license or any other identification with her. Of course, she only also had her initiate's identity card! Even with no way to prove that she was the car owner, the towing unit still let her drive the car away. Sister Chen said happily, "The initiate's identity card is so very useful!"

From these few examples, it is apparent that the card we get after initiation is not an ordinary document that only proves our identity. It represents our blessing to be one of the big Quan Yin family, our blessing to follow an enlightened Mater to practice and be liberated in one lifetime. We have heard fellow initiates say that this identity card is more important than life. We have also heard Master say that it is a universal pass. We can believe that all the fellow initiates who have personally experienced its value will of course see it as a priceless treasure.

Ordinary identity cards can be applied for again when lost. How about our initiate's identity card? I remember a resident initiate at Hsihu Meditation Center said that it would not be replaced after being lost three times. So it can be seen that they are very cautious in reissuing the initiate's identity card, as it represents important documentary proof to identify whether one is a Quan Yin member! So, since I have received my initiate's identity card, never have I put it away carelessly, because if I lose it thrice in the future, I shall be sorry for life!

The Grace Of A New Life

A few years ago, my husband and I bought a small farm on a mountain in Costa Rica, a short drive from the sea shore. The scenery there was beautiful and the climate temperate. It became our winter resort.

At the end of last year we were busy building a house on the farm. It happened that the welder did not show up for work so my husband (who is also an initiate) tried to do the job himself. He went up to the second floor to weld the iron railing on the stairs. A short while later, a worker came rushing to me, saying that my husband had fallen down from upstairs. The thought scared me so much that I rushed over there.

I found my husband sitting next to a concrete wall, looking really terrible. A very thick iron post was on the floor. According to the workers, my husband did not weld the iron post properly and it fell when he sat on it.

He only suffered some minor injuries to his face, hands and feet. Since he was rather heavy, it was quite a miracle that he didn't break any bones after falling from such a high place! Thank You, Master.

When my daughter and I approached him, my husband couldn't remember anything of what had just happened. He even asked me why he was sitting there. Then he looked at the workers who had been working with him for several months and asked me: "Who are they?" I was afraid that he might have lost his memory, but he could still remember my name and my daughter's. He told us that he had just gone to another planet with Master to spread Her teachings. He visited many places and saw many strange beings. Then Master told him that he had to return to take care of us. Therefore, when he regained consciousness, he only remembered my daughter and I. I couldn't help crying when I heard that. Thank You, Master, for taking care of everything so meticulously and for saving my husband's life. Otherwise, I wouldn't know how to face this sudden shock.

I cleaned his wounds and gave him some water to drink. That night, his memory seemed to have recovered. He gradually remembered building the house on the farm and how he fell. Thank You, Master, for Your help. I felt relieved in my heart, even though at that point he began to feel the pain all over his body, as if the accident had just occurred.

The next day I wanted him to rest for a few days, until his condition became more stable, before going home. However, he insisted on driving home. I was really worried, since I couldn't drive and wouldn't be of any help at all. I could only pray to Master for help to keep us safe.

It took several hours to drive from the farm to San Jose. A section of the mountain road had many curves making it very treacherous. However, with Master's blessing we finally arrived home safely.

Thank You, Master. I can only practice diligently to repay You for giving us our new lives.

Ching Hai Nanny

My relatives had not been initiated yet, but Master took care of them just the same. They very often had good experiences.

My little granddaughter routinely made trouble at home for no reason. Once when she was making trouble again, her mother was at her wit's end and suddenly remembered, "Master Ching Hai has great power, isn't it so?" Just as she was inspired, she immediately told her daughter to go and read Master's book. The child read the book for a while and fell asleep. Her dream was filled with Buddha's brilliant light; she saw Master come and give a lecture until daybreak. She then woke up and went back to sleep. Unexpectedly, Master continued to lecture to her and told her a lot about the proper ways of doing things. Now she has become very well behaved and dreams about Master very often.

The 'Limited' Mind And The 'Unlimited' Wisdom -

Reflections On Making The S.M. Celestial Jewelry

To coincide with the recent S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show Exhibition Tour, sister Lin, who is charged with the responsibility of making the Celestial Jewelry, accepted Master's drafted designs and was asked by Master to finish the production of the third series of the S.M. Celestial Jewelry before the launching of the fashion show. Seven substantial sets were to be finished in eight days, which included the time for acquiring all the material. To sister Lin, this sounded like the impossible fairy tales in the Arabian Nights stories because the last two sets of the S.M. Celestial Jewelry had taken two months to finish. She had no idea where to start, but she trusted in Master's blessing power and relied on Her sincerely. Therefore, she believed that the job could be accomplished in time. She worked extremely hard forgetting about meals and rest, and had almost no sleep at all.

Accidents always happen when you are in a rush! When there were only two days left before the Celestial Jewelry had to be finished and delivered to New York, the drilling pins to make the small holes for securing the diamonds broke, one after another, including all the spare pins. Sister Lin had worked as a jeweller for many years, but she had never before encountered anything like this. It was a Sunday, and all the other jewelry factories were closed, so there was no place where she could buy the pins. Surely under such circumstances, even the greatest artisans would shake their heads thinking it was impossible to finish production in time.

Adding to the disaster was an ultimatum set by the gold electroplating factory. They said that they would refuse to work on the finishing process if the jewelry was not delivered to them soon because this particular day was the Son Gran Festival - the most significant festival of the year in Thailand and all the factory workers were set to go on holiday. The sister was so anxious that she kept praying for Master's blessing in her heart, and broadcasted Master's audio tapes in the factory all day long.

After praying to Master, the sister was suddenly inspired by the proverb: 'With sincerity, even an iron bar can be ground to become a pin!' Therefore, they ground and sharpened the broken pins, and then drilled again. And it worked! They also requested the workers at the electroplating factory to wait, while a vehicle was hired especially to deliver the products to them as soon as they were finished.

The production of the third series of the S.M. Celestial Jewelry was accomplished in time even under these circumstances. Sister Lin knew only too well that it would have been absolutely impossible without Master's blessing.

Due to the urgency of the work, sister Lin did not sleep for several days. Even the workers who worked continuously on the job fell asleep on the work bench. Some workers in the sister's factory said amusingly: "You deserve an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for continuously not sleeping".

Very often, while working for Master, one experiences Her omnipresent power, and Her fantastic, ingenious arrangements. For instance, one set in the Celestial Jewelry Collection required some triangular jade pieces as ornamentation. Before leaving for Hong Kong, sister Lin mentioned to Master that she would be going to Hong Kong to purchase the required materials. She told Master that she was not sure whether she could find the jade in the shape required by Master because sister Lin believed that pieces of jade could only be either rectangular or circular in shape. "Where can I find the triangular jade pieces required by Master?", sister Lin thought.

Master seemed to have read her mind, and told her assuredly with a smile: "You will surely find them!" However, even then, the sister was still doubtful when she set off.

Having arrived in Hong Kong, and walked down one street where over a hundred gemstone wholesalers were located, an invisible force made sister Lin stop unknowingly outside a shabby looking shop. At first glance, she saw cords of Horse Eye Jade in various sizes hanging on the wall. Suddenly, an idea crossed her mind: "If the Horse Eye Jade were cut in halves, it would make the exact shape required by Master!"

She went into the shop immediately and bought a cord of jade. She asked the wife of the shop owner to cut the jade pieces in half. Unfortunately, the shop owner, who knew how to cut the stones, was not in - he had gone to the horse races. Sister Lin became anxious when she heard this because she had to fly back to Bangkok the next morning to continue with the urgent work.

She could not afford to wait any longer, therefore she tried explaining to the lady Master's ideas about producing and exhibiting the S.M. Celestial Jewelry. It so happened that the shop owners were also pious Buddhists. Knowing that the products were for a charitable event, the lady immediately promised to try to help. She phoned home and found that her husband was really there! The lady kept murmuring: "How is it possible?" Only the sister understood, and was laughing to herself because this was truly Master's arrangement.

Returning to the factory, sister Lin placed the cut stones on the diagram of Master's original design. Piece by piece, the gems fit exactly into place without the least discrepancy. One could only marvel at the incredibility of such a thing happening! In fact, Master had already arranged everything -- the sister was only the tool that Master had used to achieve the desired result.

Having been engaged in the gemstone business for many years, sister Lin always used a certain posture when selecting gemstones, which resulted in her getting arthritis in her shoulders. Very often, she suffered extreme pain and frequent relapses that affected her work.

Once, when she met Master, Master casually patted her on the shoulder to greet her. Sister Lin thought nothing of the casual contact but when she went back to the factory and carried on working till midnight, she suddenly realized that the pain of her recent relapse, which had distressed her for several days, was gone. Until now, her affliction has not recurred. She then realized that Master had healed her chronic disease unknowingly with Her 'do-without-doing' miraculous power.

Sister Lin admits that she has only done trivial service for Master, yet Master has given her many blessings. Therefore Sister Lin has said that she will practice even more diligently, and work more conscientiously for Master in the future.

Master Tells A Story

True Offering To God

Spoken By The Supreme Master Ching Hai, Hsihu Center, Formosa January 5, 1995 (Originally In English)

This is a story about mental worship. Mental worship means a devotee, a follower doesn't use any external object such as flowers, incense, drums, gongs, statues or food offering, etc. to worship.

You remember Arjuna? The devotee of Lord Krishna recounted in the Bhagavadgita. Arjuna was very fond of doing long and ostentatious external worship of God. He had a spacious worship room lit up with countless lights. He used gold and silver vessels. He spent several hours in ceremony and worship of Lord Shiva. He would sit for many hours and throw cart loads of flowers at the image of Lord Shiva. You know Lord Shiva, one of the Gods in Hindu - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Shiva is supposed to be the Lord of destruction. Actually he destroys evil, he doesn't destroy good persons.

There is a brother of Arjuna called Bhima. He never sat to do any worship. He never went to the temple. He always went to Miaoli. (Laughter, applause.) He used to close his eyes for a few minutes just before dinner, just a few minutes before dinner, and do mental worship of the Lord. Perhaps he made an offering or recited the Five Names or something like that.

Arjuna thought that he was a great devotee of the Lord and that he was highly pious and devoted. He thought that his brother Bhima had no devotion. Therefore, he looked down upon him with contempt. (Laughter)

Lord Krishna found out the attitude of Arjuna and wanted to teach him a good lesson and bring him to his senses. He proposed to Arjuna to take a trip to Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva.

When they were on their way, they met a man dragging a cart loaded with flowers of diverse kinds. Arjuna asked the man where he was taking the flowers to, but the man kept silent, as he was very much absorbed in his work, very concentrated. So Lord Krishna said to Arjuna, "Let us follow the man and find out the things for ourselves." Arjuna agreed and they both followed the man. They saw him empty the cart by the side of a huge heap of flowers, which was as big as the hill in Hsihu Center. They further saw several hundreds of carts, all loaded with flowers, approaching the same spot and their contents being emptied there. There was a huge mountain of flowers, fresh flowers there.

Arjuna became more and more curious. He could not control his curiosity anymore, so he asked the men, "Please tell me where these carts of flowers came from." None of them bothered to reply. But one man said after repeated questioning from Arjuna, "Venerable sir, kindly do not disturb us. We are too busy with our work. We have no time to talk to anyone. We have brought only seven hundred and fifty carts of flowers and more than seven hundred and fifty are still in the temple. They are all the flowers with which one Bhima, a son of Pandu, worshipped our Lord yesterday." Understand?

That means these mountains of flowers are only half of what they have to carry out, still half lay somewhere in the temple; and all these flowers came from Bhima, the brother of Arjuna, the lazy one, the one who never went to the temple, never worshipped the Lord, apparently, and never did anything, never gave a flower or incense to the Lord, the one that Arjuna always looked down upon as useless, as atheist, as not devoted to God.

"Now, it's hardly four more hours before his worship today and we must remove all the flowers within that time. Everyday he worships, the mountain of flowers come." So everyday they have to remove so many flowers from him, from his worship.

Arjuna was struck with wonder. He asked, "Is it Bhima or Arjuna that you speak of? Are you sure you have not made a mistake? You mean Arjuna, right? Arjuna, not Bhima!? My friends think, think about it. You're mistaken. The name is Arjuna, Arjuna, A-R-J-U-N-A. Must be!" So the man replied, "Poo! Don't talk about Arjuna. No, no, no, no, no! Not at all, not that one. It is Bhima who does such glorious worship with intense devotion, and not his brother Arjuna, who merely makes an outward show of his worship."

Just then another man came with a basket of flowers. Lord Krishna asked that man, on purpose, not that he didn't know, "Ah, my friend, who's offering are these flowers?" Of course you know the answer. The man said, "They were offered yesterday by an ostentatious man who lives on the earth; his name is Arjuna, (laughter) and he makes a display of his worship without any real love and devotion." Therefore one basket of flowers and talks so much about it.

Arjuna lowered his head in shame and said to the Lord, "Oh, Krishna, Ching Hai Wu Shang Shih, (laughter) why did You have to bring me here? Let us leave this place at once. You could have pointed it out, my defects, my self conceit, hypocrisy and ostentatiousness at home, and saved all this trouble and exertion. I do admit that I thought very highly of my worship and devotion. I treated Bhima with contempt. Just now I realized that Bhima's short meditation with sincere devotion is more valuable than all my showy worship all day long." Lord Krishna smiled and kept silent.

So you know in our place, in our non-temple temple, we don't bother with flowers and incense, or drums and gongs, or anything. We just bother with sincerity and inner devotion. That's why I tell you concentrate and meditate, no need for outer performance so much, no need to even bow to me or bow to any Buddha. If you see them inside, see the Buddhas inside, you may bow to the Buddhas if you want to. But the Buddhas do not expect these things. They expect that you are devoted to yourself, so that you can find your inner nature and become Buddha or become one with God. Find your own glorious nature and be of help to yourself and many other beings. That is what the Buddha expects from us.

A True Account Of A Miraculous Person

The Legend Of A Taoist (6)

Before meeting Master, the Taoist had met more than twenty teachers. The last of them were two fake masters who were a married couple. The husband claimed himself to be the incarnation of Maitreya Buddha and his wife claimed that the Quan Yin Bodhisattva lived within her being. Eventually they were found out and the Taoist got angry and hid in the mountains for fifteen years so as not to waste time and money running around looking for a master.

A Fake Maitreya Buddha And A Quan Yin Bodhisattva Impostor

Let us go back twenty years. At that time, the Taoist was very keen on seeking the Truth. Whenever he heard that there were true masters or exceptional persons somewhere, he would surely go searching for them to learn from them. Thus he, together with a few of the brothers from the Kunlun sect, went to learn from this particular couple when they first heard about them.

One of the brothers of the Kunlun sect had a friend in Tainan whose son was crazy; he had been possessed for more than three years. The family had invited many people with magical power to their home to try to cure their son. They had also been to all the temples, big and small, all over Formosa burning incense and praying to all the Buddhas. Yet nothing was effective. In fact, the boy's condition became worse. He would hit anyone he saw and he would stare trance-like at very bright lights without blinking his eyes. Therefore his family locked him in a room with both his hands and legs shackled in iron chains so that he couldn't hurt others.

When the family heard of the husband and wife who claimed to be great masters, they invited them to their home to see if they could cure their son's spiritual illness. The couple accepted the invitation saying: "We had better go immediately!"

Therefore, early the next morning, they set off in a grand manner to Yenchen, Tainan to do the exorcism with more than thirty of their disciples. When they arrived at the scene, they found about three hundred different kinds of mystic symbols hung all over the house.

The possessed boy was about twenty years old. The man claiming to be Maitreya Buddha, held a stick of burning incense in his hand, and prepared to start reciting mantras to do the exorcism. However, before he could even begin reciting the mantras, the possessed boy threw the chain at him that was attached to his hand. Fortunately 'Maitreya Buddha' could move very fast so he was not hit. However the chain hit the head of the boy's brother-in-law who was standing beside him.

Blood immediately gushed out from the brother-in-law's wound and the scene was chaotic. All the disciples stood there helplessly asking one another what to do. At the same time, the wife, who claimed to have the Quan Yin Bodhisattva living within her being, said she could stop the bleeding by reciting the Quan Yin mantra. But the more she recited, the more blood flowed out!

The Taoist thought to himself: "How could you stop the bleeding by reciting the Quan Yin mantra? It is truly not the solution." At that moment, one of the brothers from the Kunlun sect asked the Taoist: "Brother Hu, I think the situation is extremely serious. You had better help quickly, otherwise if the bleeding continues the man could lose his life."

The Taoist saw that the situation was critical. He knew that saving someone's life must be the first priority, thus he could not refuse to help. He immediately asked someone for a piece of tissue paper like the paper on which the mystic symbols were drawn. He immediately started to draw some mystic symbols and recite mantras. Eventually he was able to stop the bleeding and everyone calmed down. The host then invited everyone to stay for tea and to have a rest at his home.

The Taoist saw that the couple who claimed to be great masters did not know anything and yet they dared to sit there proudly and be entertained. He got angry and did not want to sit there drinking tea with them so he went outside alone to take a walk and to let his anger subside.

When he was outside an old man from the neighboring house saw the Taoist and said: "Alas, how could you people be so dumb!? You did not even ask about the boy's condition before coming here and you did not bring any exorcism objects here. Yet you dared to come to cure his illness? Did you not see that the whole house is filled with mystic symbols?"

"Many people who have magical power have tried but could not handle his illness. A few days ago, a person holding a sword tried to do an exorcism. The result was that the boy snatched the sword from him and someone was nearly killed. I think you had better go back inside and not be so stupid in handling this matter."

The Taoist heard this, and became even angrier. He thought: "Today is the first time I followed this couple to see how they handle things. I never thought that they knew nothing. I think the seeking of a master is a waste of effort." He then went back into the house and saw that the brothers were still there drinking tea and talking.

Then one brother came to the Taoist's side and said: "Brother Hu, today more than thirty of us came here but we could not handle the matter properly. We really have lost face."

The Taoist replied: "It is not I who have lost face, it is 'Maitreya Buddha' and 'Quan Yin Bodhisattva' who have lost face."

The brother then asked: "If you could please help my friend without losing face I would be grateful."

After listening to this brother, the Taoist's heart softened and he said: "All right! Since I am here, let me try. But I cannot guarantee any results."

The Taoist asked someone to bring him some incense and some paper money. He asked for the help of the Lord of Karma while he meditated in order to see the karma of the possessed boy. While deep in meditation the Taoist discovered that the boy once went out cycling with a classmate. For no reason, the boy deliberately pushed his classmate in front of an oncoming truck. Consequently it was the avenging soul of his classmate that was hanging on to him because he was not willing to die.

After learning this, the Taoist told the boy's parents: "I have a way to cure your son's illness. But are you willing to help?" Of course the boy's parents were very happy and more than willing to help the Taoist. Then the Taoist told the parents what he saw during his meditation. At first the mother would not admit that her son could do such a thing, arguing that her son's classmate was run over because he was not careful.

The Taoist then said: "If you don't believe me, then I cannot help you."

Fortunately the boy's father immediately asked the mother to keep quiet and not to argue any more. Then he humbly asked the Taoist what method he would employ to cure his son.

The Taoist said: "I have not thought about the method yet but your whole family could burn incense and kneel to the avenging ghost asking for forgiveness. Tell him your son was young and it was his ignorance which caused the fatal accident. But since it has already happened, say you cannot give him back his life. Ask him to forgive and not to hang onto your son. Say that in the future, when your son regains his health and gets married, his children will be treated as if they were the dead classmate's children. Your family should also take the dead classmate as your own son and set up a place for his spirit."

The boy's parents said all this to the ghost. When they threw the cups, all seven cups landed in the 'yes' position indicating that the ghost was very happy with the proposition.

When the Taoist saw the seven cups he said: "Quick, go and buy a new straw mat." When the new mat arrived, the Taoist burned some paper money on the straw mat and then drew several mystic symbols and recited mantras. He also put up a seven-star, eight-direction formation around the straw mat. Then the Taoist said: "Fine, no more problem! Give me the keys to the boy's room. I am going in to bring him out."

On hearing this, his father immediately said: "No! No! If you go in he will kill you."

The Taoist said: "No more problem. Everything has been resolved. He will not hit me." Finally the Taoist went in and safely brought the boy out. When taken to the straw mat, the boy automatically knelt down and didn't utter a word.

When the Taoist unlocked the chains and released the boy's hands and legs, he immediately knelt in front of his parents and cried loudly, saying: "You thought I liked to hit people. In fact many ghosts made me hit people. It was not I who did not want to eat. Actually I was really very hungry but those ghosts held onto my throat and did not let me swallow anything. I have been suffering daily! I could not ask for my life and I could not ask for death!" Then the boy cried loudly.

After the Taoist resolved this case of heavy karma, he took out some mystic symbols he always carried with him and told the boy to burn them and then place the ashes in water before drinking it. He also told the mother to buy some easily digestible and nutritious food for the body so that he would recover quickly. He also instructed the mother to quickly set up a place for the dead boy's spirit in the name of her own son so that they could make offerings to the spirit. Then the Taoist went home.

After more than twenty days, the young lad recovered completely so his parents telephoned the Taoist and invited him to come to their house. The parents wanted to thank all the people who were present on the day of the exorcism, so they invited everyone. Therefore, when the Taoist arrived, the so called 'Quan Yin Bodhisattva' and 'Maitreya Buddha' together with over thirty of their disciples were also present.

The host produced a red packet containing $60,000.00 NT and offered it to the Taoist as a sign of his family's gratitude. The Taoist, however, upholding the teachings of the Kunlun sect's master, Patriarch Peizhong Liu, said: "A practitioner is to practice the Tao for heaven. Helping others solve their problems is a basic obligation," and he refused to accept the red packet.

However, the woman who claimed to have the Quan Yin Bodhisattva living within her being quickly snatched the money and put it in her pocket. The Taoist saw this and was filled with righteous indignation. He could not hold back and scolded the couple: "You two could not manage to do anything to help the boy. Now that I have solved the problem, you do not even feel ashamed and yet you dare to take someone else's red packet! Today you have finally let me see your true selves. From now on, I do not accept you as my teachers!"

One of the brothers from the Kunlun sect advised the Taoist not to be bothered by them and not to feel angry. Then he said: "Now I would like to invite Brother Hu to come to my relative's house to handle the matter of his daughter being possessed. They also live nearby in Tainan."

Although the Taoist was still angry, he was still a kindhearted person, so he finally agreed to go and help the woman. However, he insisted on one condition: that the woman's parents not give any red packets to the pair of fake masters because it would be a waste of money and would only make him angry again.

The Descent Of Jade Face Fairy

All the brothers from the Kunlun sect together with the Taoist and the pair of fake masters went to the home of the possessed woman. After seeing the woman, the pair of fake masters immediately said pretentiously: "This woman is seriously possessed," as they tried to show people that their spiritual power was very great.

However because the woman was one better, and not one to be outdone she replied: "You say I am possessed. I see that you are the ones who are possessed! You people specialize in conning people and taking their money by using the names of saints. You have just conned people out of a red packet containing $60,000.00 NT and now you are thinking of coming here to con some more."

After she finished, you could see that the faces of the fake masters and their disciples were all blushing red while the brothers of the Kunlun sect were almost laughing as they stood there quietly. The woman then pointed her finger at the two fake masters and their disciples and continued: "Your group of people specializes in going all over the place to con people out of money, possessing not a bit of morality and conscience, while these few people (pointing at the Taoist and the few brothers of the Kunlun sect) are kindhearted even though they have little brains and are a bit stupid."

The Taoist heard this and thought to himself: "Today is really bad. I have a full stomach of gas because the two fake masters have infuriated me and now I come here and I'm called 'stupid.'" Therefore he did not want to concern himself with anything any more. So he sat alone near the door, crossed his legs casually, and watched everyone play the silly game.

Then the woman said: "Within your group I am only scared of that young man sitting by the door with his legs crossed. Please uncross your legs. Okay?" The Taoist said: "Why does it concern you if I have my legs crossed?" The woman replied: "Don't be like that. You are holding a seven-foot

sword in your hand. I feel uneasy looking at your sword. Please uncross your legs. Okay? Among all of you here today, only you can help me solve my problem." She then pointed her finger at the fake masters and told everyone: "You people are really dumb. How could you take them for masters. They only know how to go around conning people out of money. They don't have any skill at all. If they don't listen to my advice, sooner or later, their family will break-up and they will die. Don't ever mix with them. If you wish to seek the Truth and practice, you should practice with the Kunlun sect. That would be smart."

"As to who I am - none of you would know except that young man (pointing at the Taoist). After I finish talking, he will help me solve my problem and then tell you who I am."

The Taoist then explained to everyone: "This woman is not possessed. She came from a heavenly world with a mission. Her name is 'Jade Face Fairy' and she intends to help the people of Tainan."

The woman immediately said: "He is absolutely right! I am 'Jade Face Fairy' and my wish is to come to the world to help people. Yet I have been treated as if I'm possessed."

The Taoist continued: "Now, we need a place for her to settle down." Therefore the brothers from the Kunlun sect promised to help her with money so she could buy a piece of land on which to build a temple on so she could fulfil her wish of saving sentient beings. This fairy was the very famous 'Tainan Fairy' of twenty years ago. She passed away five or six years ago. Although the 'Tainan Fairy' warned the fake masters: "Don't go around cheating people out of their money otherwise you will not have a good end", the couple did not listen and less than two months later they both died of toxic urine.

The Jade Fairy then praised the Taoist and the brothers from the Kunlun sect telling them to follow their master's practice well. The Taoist asked her: "How do you know who my master is?"

The fairy smiled and said: "How would I not know? Your master and I both came from the heavenly realms to save sentient beings. You just follow your master well - it's correct."

Ever since parting from the fake masters, the Taoist became disheartened in his quest for a master to learn the Truth. Therefore, for fifteen years he practiced in U-Sher Mountain and did not blindly go seeking a master. One day, while in samadhi, he saw the appearance of an ancient Buddha (i.e. Master Ching Hai, as stated in the first episode). Only after that did he once again seek a master for initiation.

Master's Manifestation Body Transmitted The Holy Names

After meditating for more than ten years, the Taoist had visited many heavenly and hellish places within the first three levels of consciousness. At the Quan Yin initiation he learned that there are many higher realms of consciousness. So one day, after the initiation, the Taoist's greed emerged and he did his utmost to meditate diligently in an effort to reach those higher levels.

Eventually one day while meditating, he suddenly saw Master incarnate in front of him. The Taoist asked Master: "Didn't You go to mainland China? How can You be here?" Master replied: "I only need an instant to reach the United States." The Taoist stupidly asked: "Didn't You say that one needed more than

ten hours to go to the United States by plane? How come I just meditate and Master instantly appears? This is really incredible!"

The next day, he did his utmost again to meditate diligently so he could go to the higher realms. But all he could do was stay within the first three realms. And then on the fourth day, during his meditation, another road which he had never walked before, suddenly appeared. He curiously walked towards it. Suddenly he saw Shan Tsai Boy and the Little Dragon Girl standing on either side of a cave. They saw him approaching but they did not pay attention to him. When he neared the cave, he saw the entrance suddenly open. The Taoist thought: "Since the entrance has opened perhaps I should go in."

The Taoist walked into the cave casually, and as soon as he put his feet inside, the entrance closed rapidly. Immediately everything around him turned dark - he could not see his five fingers when his hand was stretched out in front of him.

The Taoist became panicky. He began to use whatever knowledge he had learned in the last fifty years. Sorcery, mantras and mudras were all tried. All the mantras he could remember he recited and all the mudras he knew were executed until his fingers were almost dislocated. Yet the entrance would not open. The hopeless situation made his entire head perspire and he was filled with apprehension. He had never been in such a situation in his whole life.

Consequently, the Taoist thought his last hope was to ask for Master's help. He immediately calmed down, recited Master's name, and asked Her to save his life.

After reciting Master's name more than forty times, he suddenly heard Master's voice coming from tens of thousands of miles away: "How could you be so dumb. Don't you know how to recite the Five Holy Names I taught you?"

The Taoist embarrassingly said: "I am basically dumb. Since the initiation, I have not memorized even one of the Five Names, let alone recite them!"

He could hear Master sigh for a long, long time: "Ai...... A really stupid disciple!"

Then, from tens of thousands of miles away, came the last two Holy Names. Once Master finished reciting the Holy Names, the cave entrance automatically opened. The Taoist immediately rushed outside, concerned that he could be trapped inside again.

After the Taoist came out of samadhi he began to seriously learn the Five Holy Names. He felt very puzzled that his brain could memorize almost one hundred mantras, and any one of them was longer than the combined length of the Five Holy Names. Yet the short Five Holy Names, he could not memorize. Really very strange indeed!

While On The Path

Supporting Each Other On The Spiritual Path

Someone once said, "Practice for three days, the Buddha is at your side; practice for three years, the Buddha is at the furthest end of the sky." Unfortunately, these words came true, they happened to me.

Newly initiated by Master, I had an abundance of experiences. Master said: Those who wish to become fully enlightened beings quickly should be diligent, meditate for at least two and a half hours each day, and keep your actions, speech and thoughts pure. The conditions seemed simple, but the nervousness and tedious irritations created by worldly life had invisibly whittled away my lofty goal of becoming a fully enlightened being. Gradually, I neglected my spiritual practice. The mind always cheated me: "Because I have been initiated by Master, I am Her disciple, and She would not forsake me. Nothing will go wrong regardless of the level of my spiritual cultivation." On and on, my daily meditation turned into a symbolic routine. Finally, I did not even wish to attend group meditation.

A sister initiate named Lee lived close to my house, and her situation was exactly the opposite of my own. In the beginning, she had no spiritual experiences at all. All she relied on was the thought of "believe in Master." She meditated persistently every day, and even turned her shop into Master's Book Circulation Center, guiding people longing for liberation to know Master. Each time there was group meditation, she always drove her motorbike to take me along. Even when there was a storm or heavy rain, or in the chilling, gusty days of winter, she would still go as always, wearing a raincoat and a mask. This made me feel very ashamed, as very often, I went to the meditation center with her reluctantly.

Deep inside, my mind-self and my inner self were battling vigorously. The mind-self kept consoling me: "I have too many worldly jobs to finish. I am too tired physically. I need proper rest...." And, my inner self was urging me repeatedly: "We are confined by karma life after life because of ignorance. That's why we are bound and can not be liberated. Now that we have met an enlightened Master in this life, if we do not practice diligently, Master's painstaking efforts will have been wasted. When do we expect our souls to be saved?" These conflicts and struggles went on repeating in my heart.

Each time I went to the meditation center, seeing so many fellow initiates who were diligent, I was always somewhat inspired and touched. When I watched Master's videos and listened to Her discourses, each of Her words seemed to have been directed to me personally. Therefore, I always came home from group meditations filled with bliss. One evening, I even dreamt of Master teaching me to do a physical exercise. The action of this exercise was meant for my 'sciatica.' Shortly afterwards, during a group meditation, the painful spot of my sciatica was penetrated by a strong energy current. My chronic ailment of over a decade was cured instantly without any medication.

Master always conveys plenty of love to Her disciples, but they must practice according to the method to benefit. The situation after the initiation is like Master is guiding us on our way home. Should we continue to wander outside, this is not of much use. So Master will then arrange for some fellow initiates who are especially firm in seeking the Truth to support us. Here, I wish to convey my exclusive gratitude to Master and the fellow initiates.

Words From A Freshman's Heart

One noon in the hot summer before I received initiation, I met a former school mate in a vegetarian restaurant. We were surprised by the coincidence that we both followed a vegetarian diet. He had stopped eating meat after he read Master's sample booklet. As for myself, because my fiance had just passed away, I went to attend a Buddhist repentant ceremony, hoping to lessen his karma and pay off his karmic debts. It was because of this that I lost all interest in eating meat.

My friend told me that only a living enlightened Master could shoulder the karma that people had accumulated over many lifetimes, and that if I really wanted to erase the karma, I should go to the "Supreme Master Ching Hai". Then he went home and got me a copy of Master's sample booklet. During that time, I thought, "If it can inspire a meat-eater to become a vegetarian, perhaps it is worth studying." In a short time I finished reading the sample booklet, but I could not stop at that. I wanted to read more of Master's publications, because Her teachings coincided very much with my own philosophical concepts. Therefore, before I practiced the Convenient Method, I had already read all six volumes of "The Key of Immediate Enlightenment" and other books such as "Questions and Answers," and decided to take the initiation.

After reading the several volumes of "The Key of Immediate Enlightenment", I sometimes recited "Supreme Master Ching Hai" in my heart. In a dream one night, I saw Master, dressed in a red Tibetan monk's robe. A few days later, in a branch meditation center where I went to buy some books, I was surprised to find a photograph of Master that was the same as what I had seen in my dream.

My fiance died suddenly of a disease. Each time I thought about that, deep sorrow emerged. Moreover, I faced repeated setbacks in finding a job, and my funds for living were just about exhausted. Unfortunate events occurred one after another. I was in an extremely low mood. When I was at the end of my rope, I said in my heart, "Master! I want to practice, but I even have problems providing my daily meals. What should I do?" Unexpectedly, not long after, I was informed that there was a position available in a certain school, which was very close to my home. Thinking that I might as well give it a try, I went to the interview with the head master. I received the notice of employment the same day. I was so delighted, and wholeheartedly grateful for Master's invisible help.

It was also due to Master's help that I did not miss my chance to receive initiation. In the beginning after my initiation, I very often did not meditate enough. Once, while listening to a cassette, I heard Master say, "Whenever I ask who has problems, I know that these people have not meditated earnestly, or have not kept the precepts strictly." I became vigilant.

Once, I met a former colleague at Hsihu Meditation Center. She said that the best way to make progress in our spiritual practice is to gradually change the way we complete the specified time for meditation, from several sessions to one, and even lengthen the time. That day, when I meditated as suggested, sure enough I made progress and had a vision of a beautiful and magnificent realm. I was filled with endless bliss, and truly experienced the meaning of the lyrics in one of the songs Master composed, "Separated by the Milky Way, my longing is river deep, mountain high."

One day, I was determined to ignore the numbness in my legs and meditated on the inner light and sound for several hours continuously, and at the same time prayed for Master's blessing. Sure enough, I had a wonderful experience that I had never had before. I also heard inner sounds that were too beautiful to describe. I am truly very grateful to Master! I also comprehend more deeply that sincerity and effort are the secrets to making progress in one's spiritual practice.

I would like to especially thank our compassionate Master. It is Her constant and invisible help that resolved my doubts and enabled me to break through layers of obstructions on the path of my spiritual practice.

The True Monastic Devotee

Before meeting Master, I was a nun in a temple. I witnessed the death of several nuns and the agonies they were in. I knew they were not liberated. One of them could not even recognize her daughter, a lay person who had come to see her. I began to think: "How can she recognize the Amitabha Buddha when he comes?" These incidents impressed me deeply. Therefore, with palms together, I always prayed to heaven: "Amitabha Buddha, please give me an enlightened Master!"

Very often, I did not lie down to sleep at night, just for the sake of seeking the Truth. I worked hard in the day, cooking vegetables and rice, and cleaning the floor. One day, an old gentleman came to the temple and said to me, "Someone will come and take you away within three years." I thought then that I was going to die.

Shortly afterwards, while walking on the street, I saw a huge poster printed with the words 'Immediate Enlightenment, One Life Liberation,' so I went to attend Master's lecture. I felt every word that Master said coincided very much with the scriptures. Therefore, I left the temple with the determination to follow Master.

Eventually, I really understood that only after finding an enlightened Master can one be considered a true monastic devotee.

The Song Of The Nectar River

Be A Hero Of The Century

If we cannot get over our pride, our stubbornness and our narrow thinking, we cannot get beyond where we are. It is up to us to check ourselves, to remind us what to do. That is the way it is. That's why the Way is completely ours, very individual, very easy; but very difficult, because we cannot go over ourselves, we cannot go beyond what we think. That's the trouble. So try to be careful on this point, and lift yourself upward.

The more we cling to life in a forceful way, the less we can enjoy the flavor of it. Therefore the enlightened persons are happier, more contented. And even then, from this very stable state of mind, they can do many wonders because they are quiet enough to understand where their wisdom lies, where their greatness is, in order to make use of it. When we are very busy, or we are in a panic or in a hurry, most often we forget what we want to do, or we do things in an incomplete way. Therefore, the tranquil mind of an enlightened person can see things more clearly. And that's the only logic of this science. Be still and know that I am God.

Why should we bow our heads to the pressure of society and just do like everyone else? We should have courage and strength to be different, especially when this difference makes us more noble, more happy, more intelligent, more loving and more helpful to ourselves, to our relatives and friends, to society and to the world at large. So it's worth all the sacrifice. We should be the hero of the century, not be just a common "yes yes -- no no" and we die and then we have nothing more.

The True Free Will

Q. Dear Master, when we have a few problems, how do we know which one is fixed karma and which one is Master's testing? Which one takes priority?

M. Actually there is no testing for us; we test ourselves. Just like when we have some hardship, we say, "Oh, God has tested me!" It is not true. It is because of our karma, because of our tendency toward the negative way that we experience hardship. So the only way is to turn back to the positive, and then we experience a different way. We can do it by self-discipline or by prayer. Then we turn everything into a better way. Whether it's karma or God testing, it will be better.

Q. The key to a happy life, what does it really mean to You? I thought that the only key to a happy life is to depend upon yourself, and to live your life the way you want.

M. It's not we living our lives the way we want that brings happiness; this most often brings disasters. If we live our lives the correct way, then we are free. And then of course we will be happy... not what we want. In everything there is some judgement and some kind of definite way. For example, we say, "I have a car, I can drive anywhere I want." That will bring problems. But if we drive on the proper road and with the proper attention, then of course we will be at our destination very fast. If we run all over the place, we will bring trouble to ourselves; even though we call that freedom. Freedom without discipline will bring disaster. And the way many of us lead our lives brings misery, as you can see all around you. Therefore, there is a definite way to lead our lives in order to have true and lasting happiness. That is the life of a gentlemen, that is the life of a sage, who does things according to the universal harmony, and not according to the dictation of the restless mind.

Q. Dear Master, all things come from inner Buddha nature. If so, is there real free will or free choice?

M. No! We just dream that we have free choice, and we make a lot of mess with this free choice, which we should have given up in the beginning anyhow. But we can only do that with sincere devotion to God or whomever we believe in. And we can only do that through enlightenment, because then we know it's not we who do things, it's the universal plan. Then we will not reject our job, we will not throw away our wife or children or get a divorce or anything, we will know what it is, and we will lead a more contented and happy life. You see, this is free will. For example, God's plan is that I have to put my umbrella here. And now I don't like to put it here. Why should I put it here? I feel I should put it there, I put it there. Why not? Okay? Now I upset the environment and the plan for a while. Then I feel very uncomfortable, and my umbrella will break over there, and I don't know why. If I had put it here, it wouldn't have been broken. So now, eventually, I will have to bring it back and put it here.
Now, suppose you divorce your wife or your husband or reject your job, and think now: I am free. That's it, fantastic. I have taken the matter into my hands, and now I am free of her or him. And you think you have done a decisive and very wise thing. And what happens? Maybe a few days or a few months later you will meet someone else. Maybe worse than that one. So, the experience you have to go through anyhow. Maybe you think you have changed it. But no! It's just been postponed. Or maybe God lets you turn around the corner but you go back to the same road again.

Love Me And Help Me

An Intense Love Alone Is No Good For Anyone

You always throw your love at me, and squeeze me and confine me with your love. You don't know what that feels like. You never do. Wow! Maybe something close would be like you are not in love with someone but that someone is extremely, intensely in love with you. And he pursues you, he chases you, and he spys on you anywhere. That's the way you make me feel. I am sorry, unfortunately, that is what it is. If it sounds very bad, forgive me; but it is true sometimes. I feel: Oh, oh, help, help! I need space. You do love me that's for sure, definitely, no need insurance for that.

But your love is so intense, sometimes it kills me. Yes, truly. I cannot work with you if you carry your love around on your shoulders like that, without diffusing it, without controlling it. Just like you have a very good radio or television, but you don't control the volume to adjust for your hearing ability and your space as well as those of the neighbors. You know? And it becomes a disturbance, an annoyance instead of a pleasure. But never mind, I will keep telling you like this all the time, until the day I die. And then you will keep doing what you do and loving me the way you do, just till the day you die. And we both try very hard to accommodate each other. Well, that is the way it is.

I never saw anyone in the world like you, I mean, like you the disciples; it's terrifying. It really takes nerves and energy to withstand all this loving energy directed to you at all times and from all directions. This tremendous amount of energy makes you unbalanced, unnerved, if you are not stable enough, if you are not strong enough; and you know I am only so small. Talking about Kung Fu, I am the Master. You beat me all the time with your love. Oh God! And how can you deal with that if someone hates you? It's too easy, right? It is easy, because they don't want to see you, you don't want to see them, and both of us are in peace. But when someone loves you with such intensity of fire of the first love, of the last love, of the forever, lasting, sickening love, oh God, you are killed on the spot. And that is what I have to work through. You know, it takes a tremendous amount of resistance, strong power, whatever it is, I don't know.

I often feel shattered. When I come home, I say: "No, last time I see them. Last time, last time." But when I see you again, my heart always softens. And then I shed a few tears and then I say: "Okay, I'll see you again tomorrow." (Applause) And that's where my trouble begins and it begins all the time. It always begins anew.

Put Your Love In The Right Direction

Why can you not just work with me like ordinary colleagues or something like that. Then we can accomplish a lot, a lot of things; save a lot of time, money, energy; and can help the world much, much better. Instead, you hinder my work many times. But I cannot blame you, I cannot scold you because you love me. That's the problem. It's just that you cannot handle your love, and you don't put it in the right direction. With such a tremendous amount of loving energy, you could do anything. If you didn't only direct it at one point, at me, and waste it, and choke me with it, then we could do everything.

The reason why I can do it is the same reason why you can do it, because we are wise people, we have reclaimed our original wisdom. Apart from being busy and bound with work, we know how to escape. You know, there is an escape exit. We go and get our supply everyday, every time we want. Therefore, we become wise or we come back to the wise nature of our inborn understanding. So, we can do anything we want; but only if you can control your emotions, even to me - your so-called best friend, best, beloved, beautiful idol. (Applause)

It's just that you cannot control yourselves. You are so tense when you are around me. Any excuse will do just to get next to me. Any excuse will do just to talk to me and to explain to me all your nonsense excuses. I don't know why. If you want to help me, just do it. Be blind to my presence, blind to anyone else around you; then and only then can you help me. And you can accomplish everything that I want you to do and everything that you ever wanted to do. But you don't do that. None of you can do that up to now. That's the reason why you cannot help me. That's the reason why I have to get some outside professionals sometimes and have to endure also their obstinate personalities. Of course, they have their talent and they have their professional use.... Well, I have to do it.

At least they are not so tense when they are around me. And they don't trouble me. They don't bug me so much. They don't make excuses to come next to me. They even completely ignore me. And that's best for me. But I wished you could do the job they did or they do, because I know you'd do much better, with even more love and devotion and artistic talent and wisdom. But you hinder yourself, you stop all your flow of energy and talent just because you are so intense in your love for me.

For anyone, such an intense love is no good, no good for the recipient as well as for the one who projects this love. No good for both. It takes a tremendous amount to project something like that and it takes a tremendous amount to reject something like that. So both are in a battlefield. You know, it's very difficult, especially when I have to work, when I have to deal with mundane things. That is, mundane things are what we have to do in the worldly way. And you can't at the same time be explaining or taking care of this emotional matter.

But you don't know any space and time. You are above space and time. Anywhere I am, any time I am there, you go berserk, you go crazy. So that's the problem with us! It's a pity though. And I hope you will grow day by day and that we can work together, we can help the world better.

To Be One With The Buddha To Be Free From Love And Hatred

When you work, it should be purely work. Dedicate yourself to that job, just like the first one you do and the last one you'll ever do on earth again. Even Master's presence should not disturb you. Then you are perfect. That's why in the Zen tradition, they say: If the Buddha comes, kill the Buddha. Yeah! If the devil comes, kill the devil. Kill them both. Yes! Then you are free. Because if you are still attached to the Buddha, you are not free. I am sorry to say that. Because you are not yet the Buddha. You still love the Buddha. You are not one with the Buddha. If you are already one with the Buddha, you don't know if you love or you hate. You don't even smell the difference between you and the Buddha. You don't even detect the presence of another Buddha apart from your own Buddha. You know what I mean? There is no difference then.

You can't just stay and stare in the mirror all the time and love yourself. You do? You do that? Oh sometimes we do that. When we makeup or put on some clothes, we just watch a little bit. But that is different, different from when you intensely project your love into the mirror, into your own image and love yourself. That is sickening. So that is the same, the same thing, when you love a Buddha that way. That is your own image in the mirror and you project all your energy there and forget about everything else you could do.

But that is the beginning, you know, first love. When you begin to love, it's always intense like that. But I hope you'll grow up quickly and work in our marriage for the children. It's the same in the marriage, right? You know that very well. You first love each other, right, the love is very intense. You can't get away from each other, you can't bear to live without each other for one minute, or something like that. But later even though the love is still there, you must be more realistic, more practical. You must build a house together, you must build a life together. And then later, you have to leave for the sake of your offspring. That's the way we have to do.

Even though the love is still there, you just can't sit there and hold each other's hands all the time, like in the honeymoon time, even though the honeymoon memory is still fresh and you still love each other the way you did the first time. But you know you are secure now. You have each other and you know it. So it's okay to control the love energy in order to channel it into a more positive, more practical, more realistic way in order to protect each other and help each other to grow, and to help the children to grow.

The world is our children. We are the married people. We cannot stay in the honeymoon all the time, but we must work for our children's sake, the younger brothers and sisters, the younger souls, the ignorant, the unblessed, the poor, the poor in the soul and in the material. We cannot always hold each other's hands and look into each other's eyes, expressing our love. We know we love each other. What is the big deal having to show it all the time? Is it right?

The Greatest Love Is To Sacrifice For Other People

Don't you know I love you? (Applause) And you think I don't know you love me? You think I am so kaput? Stupid? So why don't just be casual? I know you love me all the time. No one needs to tell me that, okay? But show your love by action, by your sacrifice. Sacrifice that love for something greater than personal satisfaction. Is that understandable to you? (Applause)

There is nothing greater than the love for a Master, between a Master and disciple. Nothing greater, according to the Bible and the scriptures of all religions. But I tell you, there is one thing greater than that: to sacrifice that love for other people. Understand? (Applause) Otherwise, I don't have to do anything too. I can just sit and enjoy your love and let you smother me, feed me, massage me, or let you show your devotion. But we have to do something more meaningful than just expressing our love.

You bug me more than you help. Yeah, I just feel the intense heat, even when you don't say anything at all, even when you don't truly try to physically go near me, but you try in your head. And the psychic power from your energy is really strong and disturbing because it's not pure. At that time, it's not pure love. It's pure possessing, pure demanding. And that's very uncomfortable. So make sure you understand what true love is.

True love, you don't feel burdened. The true love makes people feel very light all the time, and not obliged, not burdened. That's why you always want to see me and I don't always want to see you; I am sorry to say, because my love is very light, unconditional, carefree, no binding. But your love is intense, heavy sometimes, or too forceful and demanding my attention, my return of your love. And that is not true love. You understand what I mean? (Applause)

The Perfect Help

I cannot explain to you in detail how you did it, but you know very well what you did and how. Just like sometimes you try to help me, it's for sure that you try to help. But for that, you want me to know that you've helped me, you want that excuse as a ticket to go near, and then to explain to me that you don't have any motive. Just to go near and say: "I have no motive. I really don't want to get near You, it's just I am here." Or something like that. It's very difficult to explain to you the way it feels at that time. But I guess you understand, no?

Anytime you help me, don't try to make an excuse to go near or to project your intensive demand at me, then it is perfect. Then it's a true help, unconditional and praiseworthy. Otherwise, forget it. (Applause) You know what it's like when someone loves you and wants to possess you, and then you don't want that person. But he always hangs around, sticks around, and makes you feel so obliged. And sometimes you don't want to hurt him, but sometimes you can't bear it. You just don't know what to do. You know what I mean? That's the way you put me sometimes -- in that situation, and I just don't know how to explain but I hope you understand.

So make sure that every time you help someone including me, be pure, impersonal, unconditional. Just pure dedication to that work because it needs to be done. (Applause) Otherwise, the little help that we offer will cause so much damage in the flowing energy, obstruction in the flow of the energy, obstacle between the smooth relationship, stain in the perfect love.

Make sure there is no motive in your action, no demanding of any kind, even love, even recognition, even praise, nothing. You work as if you are the only one who knows that you're working, not even God knows. That is perfect work. Okay? (Applause) And you will never give anyone pressure in that fashion of doing. You see, maybe you love me because that is the way I do things. I don't seek anything. I just do it because I do it. Simple as that. Because I don't do anything else at that moment, I just do that. I don't even need to ask why.

S.M. Celestial Show Of The Century

"I myself cannot do much. If I can do anything, it is because of God's will. I can only do it with the inspiration from heaven. Therefore, they are not mine. This is why they are called Celestial Clothes."

An enlightened Master is not restricted to any particular form to save people. Anything done by an enlightened Master is for the benefit of all sentient beings. This fashion show is another significant indication of this fact.

Struggle Between Heaven And Humanity

The Celestial Clothes were finished in time for the events. Most of the hard work was done by the great Master of devas and humans -- 'our Shih Fu'. It was not easy to transform the inspirations from the Kingdom of God into material manifestations in this world. Master revealed later that She could envision, even while She was designing, how each Celestial garment would eventually look. Nevertheless, She had to overcome many artificially imposed obstacles -- people's egos, arrogance, and preconceived ideas. It was truly difficult to traverse this giant gap between heaven and humanity. To present before our eyes once more this God-bestowed beauty was indeed a rigorous test of patience, courage, and self-confidence. During the impossible dialogue process that lasted two weeks, the tailors objected to each idea, and kept trying to alter Master's designs. Master remarked laughingly, "Without firm and profound inner strength, I would surely have wavered under their chattering."

For the people, Master always silently shoulders misunderstandings and pressures. Only at the long awaited moment when the flower eventually blossoms and yields fruit, do we understand Master's painstaking intent. We then wholeheartedly admire Master's superior wisdom, insight, and selfless way of bestowing Her love!

     Master's comments were as follows: 
     To make all of these clothes is difficult because I make them with the

disciples, and you know what the disciples are like. Huh? Apart from staring intensely at me and forgetting what my instructions are, they have their point of view about what clothes should look like. I told them to cut it a little bit higher above the knees.

     They said: No, Master, the legs will come out.  
     I said: "Haven't you seen any legs before?"  (Laughter)  I don't sell

these clothes to monks or (laughter) sisters in the monastery, please. I will sell them to the secretaries, to the working women, to the ladies in the society, where they want to look good; but they must be practical at the same time. If you don't split the dress up, they will have a car accident. (Laughter) Yeah! Or they will fall on the street. And are you responsible? And their children must catch the bus on time. How can they run? They forget all about it. They think we can, you know, like the fanatic way. Everyone must cross their legs, cover it up to here, and then meditate. That's all there is. Please, forget it. (Applause) Yeah, that's the trouble with working with disciples.

Sharing True Beauty With The World

After many busy days without Master or disciples getting any rest or sleep, the Celestial Clothes Fashion Show came to a successful end. Master then went to the New York Meditation Center to initiate would-be initiates in person; She also joined the major group meditation the next day. 'Why use such an unusual way -- the Celestial Clothes, to attract and deliver people with affinities?' was the topic that Master chose to elaborate on, thus bestowing great benefit on all the disciples present.

"Many people ask me why I did the fashion show. Of course, because to help the people... because after the fashion show, mostly they donate the money for those needy, you know, like poor and sick, or those who have very incurable diseases, things like that, the neglected people. And that's what we do. I thought: Oh, okay, at least I have something to do it with. Otherwise, I don't want to have a fashion show, or things like that. What for? Even if for the disciples, you know it already. You have seen all my dresses hanging around anyhow. Right? So I have no need to make a fashion show. And for the outside people, they have enough, a lot of clothes to see; so they don't need to see mine.

But since it's for charity, then it's fine. Why not? And besides, we can show it to a lot of people, maybe elevate their sense of appreciation for Truth and beauty. (Applause) It beautifies the people's sense, and that elevates their soul through beauty. Many people in the fashion show came up to us last night, to me, and their mind changed. First, they were not interested in vegetarian, meditation, nothing. Now through the art, they changed. They are interested. (Applause)

So from the pure business point of view, we don't make money. Sometimes we loose money, or maybe just cover it, not including the money we give to the charity. The money for the charity must come from my pocket. Because the way we did it, it will not come out from the fashion show. And probably the audience last night were not all that rich and famous. They were not the ones who buy the clothes to make up my money. But it's not always our purpose to make money. If we can make it, it's all right. If we don't, it's okay. The most important point is to share it with people, the joy of true beauty, the joy of noble living and of self-respect, yeah? The world is already ugly. If we can beautify it in any way, that's okay. (Applause)

The Most Unprofessional Of All The Designers In This World

Our motive sometimes is very, very pure, most of the time, very pure. For example, I didn't even intend to do the fashion show. Just because some of our disciples and our friends are in the fashion business and they think my clothes are more than up to international standards, so they asked me to present them to the world. Once I said "okay," my God! A lot of work to do, I could not imagine. They kept telling me that they are experts, they know everything. And my secretary also said: "Well, I did it before." She did it before. But once I said "okay," I had to do everything.

We fixed everything in one set, ready. So anyone who is a model can just take the whole set and fix herself up without even help. But of course, they do have help. I am the only one who doesn't have help. Each model has one person to fix the clothes for them, fix the shoes for them, fix the hair for them, fix the makeup for them. Each person is different. But anyhow, we fixed everything in one set so they could do it.

But the professionals came without knowing my intention and had different opinions: "Oh, this doesn't go with this..." Therefore, it was a mess on the stage. It was the first day, and so some of our disciples said, "Okay. No, no more professional. We'll do it ourselves."

And I get into more trouble. The first night, we had different people -- all professionals. The second night, we had all different people -- all unprofessionals. And I had to work through all this brain power, all these egos, all these characters, all these personalities, all these differences. So it's not only a blessing that I am here. It's a miracle. Last night so impressed many of the designers in this country; they came and told me. They also want to make a show in Canada soon, and they said they learnt a lot from our show last night. So, for example, many people were very impressed with our work. And I am the most unprofessional of all designers in this world.

The Models Cried!

Originally they called them the 'Paris Angels,' but I changed it to the 'Paris Beauties,' because I was worried the angels would not stay long. But they are so beautiful, they are so stunningly beautiful. And despite all their tiredness, you know different timing and different climate, they really, really offered their best to us.

Models and stars, they are aloof. They are artists or also they become like dull with their job -- what we call professional sickness. They have no individual choice. I am the one who told them: 'You have some individual choice. Apart from some basic requirements from the director, you can pick up some of your own jewelry. You think it's not enough, you fix your own.' I put the whole basket, flowers and things, I said: 'Pick yours. You know what you want. And add some individual touch to your appearance, that you feel more individual, and you feel more inspired from inside. And that's how you represent it better.' Well, they did it last night.

First time I told them, they told me: 'But we are not used to demanding.'

     I said, 'Why?' 
     They said, 'We are used to people telling us what to do.' 
     I said, 'No, you don't have to do that here.  Otherwise you become a

wooden mannequin, right? You have no feeling because you don't have inspiration and no pushing force from inside to do it. You don't enjoy it. You do it just like a machine. Then it's no good. That's why I don't come to the dressing room all the time, telling you what to do, because I leave you room for creativity.' Even the director and everyone, if they ask me, then I tell them. If they don't ask me, I don't tell them, except in some extreme cases like, for some of the clothing sets I designed it must be, you know, the headgear like that, or the footwear must be like.... Some are extremely fixed. If not, it doesn't look good. The others, it is more free.

I let them be free. Just when it is an extreme case, then I point and say, 'Don't do this. Don't do that.' Otherwise I leave them with their inspiration, and very discreetly instruct them what to do through someone else, or very discreetly. So they think they are doing it. I do it behind the door and through someone else and very tactically and let them have their own, free movement and will. And that's why they flowed last night. Yeah, it was so rigid before. And they don't even want to talk to you because it's their job and they are used to it. And sometimes it's very boring. You even have to represent some boring clothes. You have to do it because you do it for money. And the director sometimes is stupid and they tell you what to do and you have to do it. And it is sometimes very suffocating for them. That I understand.

Last night they were superb. They were beyond modeling. They were just representing themselves and their true beauty came out. And they were running around and picking this and that, and wanting more earrings, wanting more things. And I took all my beloved fake jewelry and gave it all to them and personally put more on for them. It's rare in the models' world that the models go and pick things themselves. But they enjoyed themselves and they were really touched, huh? I saw that. They came and kissed me, and said "Thank You." Because they felt respected last night. Respected, and really loved and enjoyed. We gave them true enjoyment.

Mostly not so much clapping and enthusiasm like last night, from thousands of people; they nearly died. They felt respected. Their job was nobilized. For the first time, they felt that their job is really noble. I said, 'God has bestowed beauty upon you. You should treasure it, and use it to beautify the world and to give enjoyment to other people in the purest sense of enjoyment.' Yes, then they understood. (Applause) Yeah, because sometimes I think many people look upon them as just an instrument -- lifeless, and no brain or anything. But they are persons too. They are us. They are one of us.

That's why when we bring out the best, the noble quality, and remind them of their noble purpose, then they do it with joy. That's why it was so beautiful last night. Right? (Applause) And if I said 'that's the show of the century,' it's not too much. No? (Applause) You know why? The century has nearly ended already. (Master and everyone laugh.) No competition.

- FEEDBACK- A Show Of Beauty, A Lesson Of Love

I never dreamed of attending a fashion show before. As a student, I am quite removed from the fashion industry. The first time I ever wore a suit and tie was at the dinner party in Hawaii where Master received "The World Peace Award", and my first suit was purchased specifically to attend Master's award ceremony in Chicago. But with Master, anything is possible, even those things that never happen in our wildest dreams.

There were more than a dozen professional models presenting the Celestial Clothes at the New York fashion show. Master said initially that they were named 'Paris Angels' in advertisements, but She changed the name to 'Paris Beauties.' "Because," Master said jokingly, "I am worried that angels would not stay long." When some of the models appeared wearing the same clothes that Master has worn before, I, a nearsighted disciple in a remote third floor box seat, almost thought that Master was on stage. All my warm emotions and beautiful recollections about Master were evoked at that time. Through this experience, I come to understand better how clothes play a role in Master's teachings.

Our minds are very good at associating clothes with the person who wears them. By seeing one's clothes, memories about that person can be triggered. So we'll remember Master merely by seeing Her clothes. Also, there are many stories about people who have felt affinity with Master especially when seeing Her wear certain clothes. At the fashion show, with all the sounds (beautiful background music), lights (the lighting matched the performance and rhythms perfectly) and marvelous scenes, it was as if Master led us through different worlds to meet with heavenly beings. Even though some of Her fashions have appeared in the News magazines or video tapes, I never realized until that day that Master had designed so many elegant clothes.

The show was well received by the audience. When Master appeared on stage at the end of the show, the audience members all rose and responded with deafening applause, and some models were moved to tears. I was also overwhelmed by that scene even though I was just part of the audience. The show, which was entertainment to us, apparently was hard work for Master. Much of the work beforehand and behind the scenes was not as easy as we thought. All the details had been taken care of meticulously by Master; thus one can easily imagine how tired She must have been. After the show, there was an initiation at the New York Meditation Center. Although it was late at night, Master still visited us there. As usual, while gazing at Master, I could feel the same sensations as in deep meditation -- fully satisfied, carefree, and peaceful. I was immersed in a sea of love.

If the lesson of the show was beauty, then the lesson of the next day's group meditation was love. We don't always know how to love a person, even our most beloved Master. The love becomes a burden to both parties. Master said She knows very well that we love Her, but our love is very heavy and hard to take. Whereas Master's love is always very light, giving us no pressure. Compared to our love that chokes people, what Master gives us is selfless and supramundane love.

The story of love and beauty in New York ended on Easter Sunday, when Master said good-bye to us without a word. The journey will continue to London and Paris. Now we all have arrived home with Master's love and blessing, but She is still on Her way.

- FEEDBACK - It's Glorious Working For Master!

Since I am older, I often feel that I will rarely have a chance to do Master's work. In addition, I do not understand English, to say nothing of my inability to drive a car. But this time I was so glad when I had the great opportunity to take part in the kitchen work as a staff member. From the whole week's work, I learned many things; be it great or small, I could feel Master's pervading love and blessing.

Because of the busy schedule and the non-stop work, the time for sleep was relatively short. Normally, at home, I would not be able to sustain such physical effort, but strangely enough, when I was doing Master's work, I could feel Her blessing, therefore I was full of vitality all the time!

In addition to the spiritual encouragement, Master also silently helped us in cooking. Whenever an ingredient was apparently used up, we'd rummage through the cupboards and overturn boxes; our search would never be in vain. Master takes care of everything in every detail. What I experienced above was only one of the many examples of this.

It is really difficult to please everyone's palate. It is inevitable that some people will like the dishes you cook and some will not. Even though you cannot please everyone when you do something, no matter if it is a success or a failure, it will be a good learning experience. Once in a while, during the work, I was able to be aware of my ego. However, thanks to repeatedly reminding myself of it while I worked and making up for this shortcoming, I learned many valuable lessons as a result of the week's work. I also felt deeply that this work was really a rare experience.

When we do Master's work with great effort, Master will always provide us with a first-class reward. For example, on the night of the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show, we got lost while driving to the meditation center, as we were not familiar with New York City. But Master never ceased taking care of us. After we drove around and around for quite a long time, we finally arrived, just in time. It is indescribable how grateful to Master we were at that moment! Coincidentally and unexpectedly, Master took the same elevator as we did, giving us the greatest surprise and ecstasy! And after Master gave a speech and walked among the audience, to my surprise, She stood in front of me talking to fellow initiates for quite a long time before She left.

This special blessing completely dispelled the whole week's tiredness, and made me feel deeply that Master has always been silently taking care of us -- forgiving all our big or small mistakes, and never neglecting any small detail. I wish I could have such opportunities, one after another, to train myself and to encourage me to make a continuous effort while on the spiritual path.

- FEEDBACK - Working Together With Master

New York's Lincoln Center was the first stop for the "Worldwide S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show." We arrived early in the evening at the front lobby of the exhibition hall. I was about to go to the area designated for the sales of Master's publications to ask the practitioners if they needed any help, when a Quan Yin messenger happened to come by and ask for my assistance. So, I went backstage with several other initiates.

Our job was to help the models get dressed. From head to toe, all accessories had to coincide with Master's design requirements. Master had special considerations for very delicate details, such as how to put on the buttons and tie the ribbons. A slight deviation could affect the designer's original intention.

The Quan Yin messengers especially emphasized speed and accuracy. I was a little worried when I heard that, since I am usually not very quick. At home my husband, an initiate, often reminds me to be quick; otherwise, we cannot coordinate with Master's work. Now that I was facing this situation, I regretted not having trained myself well for the occasion.

At that time, a sister initiate standing next to me suddenly shouted with joy, "Master!" I immediately warned myself to continue concentrating on the work at hand and not turn around to look at Her. Even so, my heart couldn't help but fly to Master. I looked at the clothes under my care. Each set consisted of several parts, which combined to form a complete outfit. I looked here and touched there, but still could not figure out how to put them together, even with the help of sample photographs. I had seen Master wearing these clothes in the News magazines before, and once at the Celestial Clothes Exhibit in Chicago. I only remembered how beautiful and unique each one was, and never paid attention to how they were put together.

As I was wondering how to begin, I suddenly heard Master's thunderous voice directed at a sister initiate, "What are you doing there? I've passed your place many times; you're always doing the same thing!" This acted like a tranquilizer, calming down the initiates. When Master saw that some of us could not tie the ribbons properly, She couldn't help raising Her voice again, "Quick! No kidding! You only have fifteen seconds." Master works day and night for the sake of saving sentient beings without consideration for Her bodily fatigue. I couldn't help feeling sorry for Her when we, the disciples, could not keep up with Her high standard of work.

From this point on, I completely forgot about Master's presence. I only wanted to do God's work. I remembered Master once saying that only when we are faced with a challenging situation, do we discover that our wisdom has truly been opened, and that practicing the Quan Yin Method was really useful in this respect. I prayed in my heart for Master's blessing, for me to be a useful instrument and not an obstacle. I prepared everything quickly. Then, I sat down to meditate and recite the Holy Names. My heart was serene and full of confidence. When the models arrived, we started to work. Everything proceeded in an intense and orderly manner.

Once, my model left without putting the flower on her headdress. When I discovered this, I rushed to catch her. Master also noticed that the flower was missing and stopped her. When I caught up with her, Master said, "This is it!" I went back to prepare the next dress immediately. At that time, I really treated Master like another initiate. I couldn't even believe it myself afterwards because each time I saw Master I was always tearful from the overwhelming gratitude in my heart. This time I was calm; it must have been the result of Master's special blessing. Just as Master said in the group meditation after the show, "When we totally concentrate on doing one thing and forget the presence of Buddha and God, then we can really do the job well." Thank You, Master, for giving me this rare opportunity to work with a living enlightened Master.

When the models had put on their last dresses and walked onto the stage, we, the working staff, let out a sigh of relief and rushed to the side door to watch the end of the show. When we saw our beloved Master, dressed in a shiny and magnificent royal costume, walk onto the stage with the models, we were all in tears! Amid the thunderous applause, even some of the models were so touched that they turned around to wipe their tears. Oh! Dear Master! Your love has merged into the hearts of everyone on and off the stage.

The S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show is another example of one of Master's unexpected and ingenious ways of saving sentient beings.

Before the New York trip, my sister and I asked our old friends to come with us to see the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show. They didn't agree with us about following Master. However, they showed interest when they heard the news of Her fashion show. We hoped they would take this opportunity to see a living Master and to develop an affinity with Her.

It turned out that they did change their attitude toward Master after watching the show: They not only agreed that a vegetarian diet and meditation are beneficial, but also planned to study Master's teachings carefully.

The New York trip also brought a new fellow initiate to our Indiana Meditation Center. This sister had just learned about Master from a Chinese newspaper, "Asia American News," in Chicago two weeks earlier. The night before the New York trip, she called our center and asked to go with us to see Master. It happened that there was a space for her in our car! On the way to New York, fellow initiates introduced Master's teachings to her. After the fashion show, she got initiated.

The following day, we went to the group meditation at the New York Meditation Center. While waiting in line to go inside the meditation hall, Master ingeniously arranged for me to stand by a sister from Chicago. Without any reason, I mentioned to her how our new fellow initiate had learned about Master and became initiated. After she heard the story, she was so touched that her eyes filled with tears. She said repeatedly, "Thanks to Master that we have this opportunity meet each other!" It was this sister who had sent the material on Master's teachings to the "Asia American News." She was greatly encouraged by such prompt feedback in the form of a new disciple.

From this sister, I learned that the editor of the "Asia American News" had a fortunate meeting with Master. Due to Her blessing power, the editor had changed his attitude toward Master and started to publish Master's teachings on a full page of the paper free of charge each week. Thinking of the ingenious ways in which Master saves sentient beings, we can't help exclaiming: "Master is truly the greatest!"

When the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show was in New York, one of the models showed much interest in our group and the vegetarian diet. While the other models preferred to go out to eat non-vegetarian food, she often stayed and ate vegetarian food with our work team, and seemed to have much affinity with us.

At the end of the show when Master appeared on stage to receive a standing ovation from the entire audience, Her divine love filled the atmosphere to the state of exaltation. One model in particular, perhaps because she was moved by the special atmosphere or touched by Master's blessings, cried incessantly, and she could not wipe her tears away fast enough. The model standing next to her gave her a pair of gloves to wipe her tears, but it wasn't enough, so she ran backstage to clean up before coming back on stage. After a short while, she had to go backstage again because she could not stop crying. No doubt her soul was profoundly touched by Master's divine love.

The next morning, she came to eat breakfast with our work team again. She told us that she couldn't sleep the whole night. When we asked her why, she said it was because Master's music, which was used in the show, echoed in her mind the whole night. The fellow initiates all smiled knowingly; they understood that it was Master's blessing.

The inner beauty that emerged from within each of the models made their performances on stage more and more natural, artistic and beautiful. No wonder Master said that whenever She saw them, She felt that they had become more beautiful each time!

I love fashion shows and often watch them on television. Most are the works of the world's best known international designers from Paris, London, New York, Rome, Tokyo, and so forth. Most of these collections are meant to impress people with their distinctiveness at all costs. They do not necessarily enhance a woman's natural beauty. Instead, they make women look sexier, not always with the best of taste, or they make them look downright ridiculous.

Master's clothes are very feminine, refined, and classy. She has mastered the arts of nuance and harmony to such perfection that the entire show was like a masterpiece unfolding in front of one's eyes. I loved the tunics She had designed with a slit on the side and contrasting lining, sometimes of an unexpected color scheme. Some of the garments were monochrome in differently textured fabrics. Some of the silk charmeuse dresses reminded me of 1940s movies, when stars really looked like stars.

Master's designs put fashion back where it should be: easy to wear, comfortable, practical, classy, and artistic, delicately following the natural curves of a woman's body yet maintaining a certain mystery. There is something in Her clothes to make every woman more beautiful.

Climaxing the show, Master appeared in all Her splendor wearing a sumptuous orange and gold outfit. At that moment, it struck me that sooner or later She is going to be discovered by the big-business fashion world, and Her designs will be displayed in leading fashion magazines. Everyone will become interested in and be moved by this extraordinary being, and Her heavenly art. She will take multitudes of people 'Home.'

When the music began, the first model walked onto the stage wearing one of Master's Celestial Clothes. At that moment, I was astonished and thrown into ecstasy. My heart was touched as deep as I think it ever could be. Suddenly, all kinds of feelings welled up inside me as tears rolled down my cheeks. Every means that Master has used for the last few years to teach us was rapidly played back in my mind. The endless gratitude and admiration that I felt led me to wish I could embrace my most beloved Master and say: "You are so great! So wonderful! This goes far beyond the limits of my imagination."

It all seemed real yet like a fantasy to me, that Master's graceful and appealing singing was resounding in my ears: "I'm your glory...", while I was appreciating the models of the S.M. Celestial Clothes, beautifully poised in their gestures and complemented by their makeup and exquisite dancing. Suddenly I realized that actually in our everyday life, everyone of us could be a model wearing the S.M. Celestial Clothes, and our original noble and graceful qualities would be awakened. Thereafter the beauty from heaven would naturally spread to everyone around without the necessity to use any worldly language.

The people around me also seemed intoxicated by Master's all-pervading love. A foreign gentleman sitting beside me kept nodding his head during the show as an earnest and attentive expression appeared on his face. A fellow brother, who was in charge of taking photographs and rarely showed his emotions, was moved to tears. He said that it was very difficult for him to express the deeply touching atmosphere at that time. The only words that he could say were: "Touching. Extremely touching - everything!" From this one would know that the ladies' hearts were not the only ones touched by Master's fashion show.

This grand event was too beautiful to be absorbed all at once. Even though the curtain was drawn in the end, I deeply feel that the beautiful message that Master has delivered from heaven has already sprouted and started to grow in people's hearts, and will never stop!

For me, taking part in the preparation work for Master's Fashion Show helped me realize for the first time since my initiation, that in doing Master's work one needs to accept the challenges as well as the tempering process associated with it.

When there are many people working together, it invisibly gives one the best opportunity to learn how to cooperate within a group, as well as to absorb the good points of others. Those who work fast, and with few errors, concentrate a lot on their work and seldom talk, for those who practice well, their capabilities don't necessarily have any relationship with their worldly professional knowledge. No matter what such a person does, even if it were the first attempt, it would be perfect and done efficiently. This is what Master wants all of us to learn: to concentrate the omnipotent wisdom and power, and be able to get the most done in the shortest time.

On the day of the rehearsal, I was backstage helping to sort the accessories. In the midst of the rehearsal, Master came backstage to talk with the models and give us directions on how to coordinate the show. At the time, Master was just like any other professional fashion designer fighting for the ideals embodied in Her designs. I originally thought that a great Master could not be born in the body of an ordinary person. But the fact is that just because Master has the same sentiments as we do, and has the same flesh and blood, She is nonetheless able to shoulder all the difficulties and sufferings and to make many untold sacrifices for sentient beings who have no relationship with Her. This is why She is so great! If She were to be different than we are, not knowing any suffering or any pain and not knowing the very nature of difficulties, then how could one say She is great? Because to Her it really would not make any difference! Therefore, my respect for Master has deepened.

After this process of tempering, I have deeply realized many new methods of doing things. I also deeply feel that as long as we try to sincerely learn and understand, then all the challenges that we encounter when doing Master's work and all the weaknesses exposed during the process are the best educational opportunities that Master uses to train us individually.
To me, it was a most beautiful way of spreading Master's teachings and also a most memorable lesson.

Sister Shan was born and brought up in Formosa and therefore was accustomed to only eating Chinese food. She had never liked cheese, raw vegetables or bread. When she went abroad to see Master's Celestial Clothes Fashion Show she stayed with a local fellow practitioner for several days and originally refused to eat these types of foods. However, she gradually accepted them and finally began to love them.

Before sister Shan returned from France, she bought many different kinds of cheese and brought them back to Taipei. In Taipei, she even bought vegetables and ate them raw on her own initiative. She was very surprised. She could not believe that all of her eating habits had changed within a few days; she never thought it would ever happen. It is unbelievable that Master could change her so easily like this!

Sister Shan seldom left her home for long periods of time. Every time she had followed Master abroad, she was very concerned about her two sons at home. Even though they were in junior high school they remained very attached to her, and were by no means independent.

Before she went to France, and also during the week she was away, sister Shan could not help worrying if her children would get along well with their grandfather. She was concerned about her sons being upset and refusing to eat.

After she returned she found that her two children had matured significantly and were like two different people. Previously, these two brothers never thought twice about spending money. Now, however, they even began to put themselves into their mother's shoes saying: "We should save money and buy the cheaper one instead." Also, in the past they only drank canned drinks, but now they even suggested drinking only plain water. All these surprising changes made sister Shan feel that she had different boys as her sons.

Sister Shan is very grateful to Master. Master not only freed her from pressing duties and a lot of housework and made her long-cherished wish come true by giving her the opportunity to go to Paris to watch the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show, but also changed her children dramatically while she was away. This gives her the greatest happiness!

Mimi's Candy House

The Prelude --

One morning Mimi woke up teary-eyed. Her mother asked: "What's wrong Mimi?"
Mimi poutingly said: "Last night, Master-mummy took us to a lecture on another planet. Later, Master-mummy handed out some blessed food to us. She handed me a bag of chocolates, but you, mother, took it and finished them all. Ou, Ou, Ou...."

     Mimi's mother was puzzled: "Why don't I remember any of this?" 
     From morning till night, Mimi followed her mother like a shadow, asking

for that bag of chocolates. Eventually her mother had no choice but to pray to Master: "Dear Master, I cannot buy the chocolates from heaven here on earth, so please help me and give another bag of candy to my daughter."

The Story --
The next morning, Mimi's innocent looking face was like a bright red flower as she smiled resplendently. Leaning on her mother's arms, Mimi spoke quietly: "Last night's candy house dream was so delightful and amusing."
Mimi's mother opened her eyes and said: "Eh?", as she stretched her neck and pricked up her ears.
"Master-mummy, like Santa Clause, brought a big bag of candy to our house, then she turned our house into a candy house. The roof was a layer of chocolate, covered with a thick layer of cream. The cream was garnished with cherries, strawberries and grapes. The walls were made of chocolate bricks, and the fences were made of big triangles of chocolate. The flowers, grass and trees surrounding our house were all turned into candies too. They looked the same as before, but every petal, every leaf was edible and each had it's own distinctive taste. Then Master-mummy made snow out of white candy. The candy fell like snowflakes; they were so light, flaky, soft, sweet and aromatic. They melted in my mouth immediately and didn't feel cold."

     Mother asked curiously: "What happened to the inside of our house?" 
     "It was chocolate too.  The tables, chairs, counter and fireplace were

all made of chocolate. Even the bathtub, toilet, quilts, books ... were all candies. We could enjoy the candies while we bathed, slept, or read. And the tap water was sweet and your cosmetic lotion was a thick syrup." Mimi's mother swallowed, then asked: "What was it like, the candy Master-mummy brought you?"
"Oh, there were many different kinds of candy, with a variety of colors, shapes, scents and tastes. The whole house was full! There was one kind that was like a heavy book with many pictures inside. Some of the pictures were of animals, some were of flowers and you could tear out the pages to eat. None of that happens on earth. It's different, the candy from heaven, it is not sticky and ants aren't attracted to it. It does not harm your teeth and you don't feel full after eating lots of them. You just can't have enough of them. The most wonderful thing is: after you finish one, a new one will appear at once so you cannot finish them all." "So, did Master-mummy live in the candy house too?" Mimi's mother asked eagerly.
"Yes. Master-mummy lived in the candy house for a year. We slept together everyday. She sometimes held me in Her arms. Master-mummy meditated with us and made snowmen with us. In the evenings, She took me for walks - the little birds flew near us and the squirrels jumped around us. It was such a happy time living with Master-mummy! However, Master-mummy had to leave eventually. Father drove Her away in a pretty but strange looking double-decker van. I was very sad and cried. But before She left, Master-mummy told me: "Mimi be a good girl, don't cry. Master-mummy will come again. Remember to tell your mother to write down the story of the candy house to share with fellow practitioners..." It was about noon when Mimi finished her story. Her mother asked her: "Do you want to eat something?"
"No. I'm satisfied having eaten all those heavenly candies, now I don't feel hungry at all."

Postscript --

     The candy house dream satisfied Mimi's wish to have candy everyday. 
     After receiving half-initiation Mimi lives in a miraculous world. Her
life is full of joy, pleasant surprises and fun. 
     "Master-mummy" often takes Mimi traveling to other planets and worlds

throughout the universe to taste the heavenly flowers, fruits and drinks, and to attend spiritual lectures in heaven and on earth .... "Master-mummy" is Mimi's dearest loving mother. She is Mimi's closest companion and the most powerful magician. Having a friend like "Master-mummy", Mimi is the happiest, the most satisfied and the most blissful child in the world.

My Daughter And The Big Hornets

I remember it was the day after the typhoon had passed. The continuous rain had made the children most anxious to go outside for some fresh air. Approaching a nearby school, they dashed in, leaped on the swings, and climbed on the slides, enjoying to their hearts' content. Suddenly, I heard my daughter's piercing cries. It happened that she was jumping between the leaves of a large fallen coconut tree, not aware of a hornets' nest on the leaves. With hands covering her head, she was running toward me; but the swarm of big hornets, with orange and yellow stripes, arrived before her. Then, the baby on my back and my son beside me also started to cry.
Hearing the wailing of my children, I became very nervous and subconsciously murmured to myself, "Oh Master! Please help!" More hornets charged forward to attack. I was so anxious that I screamed loudly, "Master, if You do not come immediately, someone will be killed!" Suddenly, a transparent wall seemed to appear, and all the big, ferocious hornets just turned around and flew off.
Before this incident, although my daughter obediently followed my husband and me to Hsihu Meditation Center, deep in her heart she could not understand our attitude of loving Master and the Truth above everything. After this incident, she truly experienced Master's great omnipresent power. No longer jealous of Master, she became determined to let go of the MacDonald's hamburgers and fries, and receive half initiation.

A Master Artist Of Truth, Virtue And Beauty

Master's S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show is currently being staged around the world. It has attracted much attention in the field of international fashion design. Several fellow initiates who are professionals in the fields of fashion, photography and the art of painting have expressed their feelings about Master's artistic creations.

To Communicate With Master Directly On The Inner Level Is The Best Way

How much time does it take to make over one hundred and thirty sets of Celestial Clothes? A French female initiate who works as a pattern maker for Channel (a famous French fashion company) said: "Even if you mobilize thirty people and do a rush job continuously for a month, you still may not complete it!" How could it be that with only ten plus fellow initiates, under Master's meticulous instructions, they accomplished the job perfectly in a period of just over ten days?

Sister initiate Chen, who has over twenty years experience as a pattern maker, participated in the whole process of making the Celestial Clothes. Unable to hide her excitement, she talked about this journey of abundant learning:

In the beginning, I carried with me mundane 'professional habits' and my mind was fighting against Master all the time. Although I knew Master was frustrated, I was not able to tune into Her ideas. Consequently, the work did not progress smoothly.

For example, there was an outfit designed for secretaries; it had high slits on both sides of the skirt. I assumed that Master's design was intended to be conservative, so I did not make the slits as high as She had designed. When Master saw it, She commented that we only worried about overexposure, but did not consider the secretary's job. Besides managing their office work efficiently, secretaries often need to fight for time driving and picking up their children. With the way we cut the skirt slits, their lives could well be in jeopardy! Finally, under Master's instructions, the slits on this Celestial skirt were adjusted to the most appropriate height to meet the needs of those in everyday life. Besides the beautiful appearance of the outfit, its practical aspects were also meticulously considered.

Also, there was another skirt that emphasized beautiful flowing lines. After many corrections, it was still not perfect. Finally, Master came to show us how to make it come alive and look chic. By then, it was almost daybreak! I was deeply touched by Master's tender, loving care and by the considerate way in which She caters to the needs of others.

During the first week, Master used different situations to remind me of my old habits and cleanse my karma. Gradually, I was able to break my old habits of my mind and come into contact with Master on the inner level.

While on the job, the most important thing was concentration. As soon as I diverted my attention, obstacles would arise immediately. There was an Indian hat that I had made four times. Had I been doing my regular job, I would have felt that the boss was picking on me. But later I understood that it was Master's training because the task allowed me to learn three more designs on that one item.

While making another hat, I wasn't sure if it was the way that Master wanted it. So I started praying to Her. Immediately, She called and asked me if I needed help. Then She used a coaster to demonstrate and compare - the answer came quickly and clearly! Master is truly omnipresent - to communicate with Her directly on the inner level is the perfect way!

Even with very limited materials, Master was still able to fully express the sentiments of Truth, virtue and beauty. One of the Celestial Clothes was made from an ordinary piece of coarse cloth of an obscure color, but Master added a shiny lining to it which transformed it into a magnificent garment! The outer obscurity represented the physical body, while the inner brilliance represented the soul. It reminds the world of one's inner brilliant nature and the value of spiritual practice.

After the job was completed, I couldn't appreciate the works of other famous international designers any more. Master told us later: "Whatever you do, put in your best effort; whether you succeed or not is not important."

From the lessons that I experienced, I realized that the mind accumulates many habits from past lives, creating obstacles that impede our spiritual cultivation. In order to reach perfection, we must have direct contact with Master on the inner level.

An Enlightened Master Inspires My Creativity

To me, Master's fashion designs, musical compositions and paintings are unspoken teachings that touch my soul and prompt my concentration. They all represent Truth, virtue and beauty; like poetry, they captivate my entire being.

Master's Celestial Clothes are carefree yet have a powerful impact. Some bring forth the wonders of the universe, some integrate different ethnic cultures; the lines flow clearly, the designs are elegant, and the colors brilliant and alive.

Master's paintings have the same style. They are distinct yet delicate; within the innocence there is creativity; behind the calmness there is activity. As one mindfully studies the paintings, it seems that what is actually revealed isn't what one sees. When the painting seems quiet it isn't really calm, and when there is activity there isn't any movement. The style is free flowing and graceful. Master's musical compositions are no exception. From these examples one can see that the wisdom of a truly enlightened master is infinite.

I feel deeply that Master brings us onto the path, but the practice depends on ourselves. It may be a common saying, but one must have the merit to follow Master, understand Her compassion, and humbly receive Her blessings. Master has said: "Once the wisdom eye is opened, then we are able to truly understand the people, things and situations that surround us."

Master's creations remind me that even though I am a new initiate, I must rush to catch up with Her pace. By practicing the Quan Yin Method diligently, I receive pieces of enlightenment every day, and eventually I'll reach the great enlightenment. Not only will it help me advance spiritually and morally, but it also helps me cultivate my own potential at work. My diligent practice helps me and benefits others - so why not!?

Master Has Fulfilled My Dream Of Being An Artist

For many years, I dreamed about being an artist, but due to financial reasons, I could not become a professional artist. Eventually, I went to work in the field of architecture, drafting three-dimensional views of the interiors of buildings.

My personality makes me always seek perfection. But I can only paint things life-like or create a beautiful shape with a very simple form. Occasionally I am wondrously inspired. Such artistic "sudden enlightenment" happened once or twice when I was outdoors and opened my heart to nature without the bindings of commercial influence. However, I did not know how to keep the innocent heart of an artist at all times.

Once I was looking at Master's paintings in the Laiyi Meditation Center when my uncle asked for my opinion as an artist. I lingered in front of Master's paintings in an intoxicated state directly attributable to Her works. I was astonished and speechless. I was so touched that no words could express my feelings! With the shocking feeling of finding an intimate friend, tears filled my eyes. For a long time, I have searched everywhere for teachers and attended art exhibitions, but never has my heart been so impressed.

Master's paintings fully expressed the vast world within my heart. It was like reading "The Key Of Immediate Enlightenment," and someone had spoken my thoughts for me. Worldly language can hardly express the thoughts in the mind of a living saint, yet Master's creations can really directly touch the depth of one's soul. I am most grateful to Master because She uses all methods to save sentient beings; otherwise, a "rock" like me, who only knows painting would perhaps ask: "When will I ever go home?"

The Best Interpretation Of Spirituality, Art And Life

I have been working in the fields of photography and marketing for over ten years. From a professional standpoint, I regard myself as possessing the talent and judgement of an artist. However, during the long creative process, in my mind I have often experienced the feeling of being stuck due to lack of inspiration.

After my initiation, I eagerly wanted to break free from all bindings in the world. I discovered that my "determination to be an artist" was really a set of heavy chains. Therefore I had a thought about not creating any more. During this period of time, Master was like a skillful watch-maker; breaking into my rusted skull and installing brand new parts. She made me realize that creation is the manifestation of one's inner and outer joy.

Now I have started again and intend to become a happy artist for life. From Master's painting's, music, celestial clothes and attitude toward life, I observe the highest expression of perfection in the merging of the body and soul as well as in the esthetics of creation. I would like to share some of my thoughts.

Master Is The Perfect Representation Of
The Essence Of Truth, Virtue And Beauty

Throughout history, the lives of most great artists, regardless of their spiritual attainment, have shown us that their accomplishments and life circumstances were like both ends of a string - they could not be integrated. Artists such as Kawabata Yasunari, Van Gogh, Beethoven and Bach displayed unsurpassed talent yet their lives were not able to escape the tragedy of suicide, insanity, physical handicaps or early death. We are in heaven when we appreciate their works of art, but when we look into their lives we experience hell. However beautiful and abundant the cherry blossoms are, they are gone in a fleeting moment. It is extremely rare for someone to be highly recognized for their artistic achievements and at the same time freely enjoy a glorious, colorful life.

Master is an example of the "perfect product" of enlightenment. She lives freely; Her actions and creations are a combination of life and artistic grace at their fullest. She is truly a practitioner and an artist of life.

Master Reveals The Perfection Of Spirituality, Art And Life

The artistic creations of humanity are consciously searching for "beauty in form" or "inner meanings." These creations usually express "fame, fortune, desire, life, death or redemption," and are still under the influence of the mundane world. In contrast, Master's creations are balanced, harmonious, diverse and beautiful in form. They are also full of messages of joy from heaven and express a state of serenity and selflessness. They are far beyond the mundane physical world. Within Master's artistic creations, one can clearly see three aspects: Deep messages for sentient beings, reminding them not to forget to practice spiritually; the state of samadhi that Master expresses in Her flowing and natural style, without a word; and the ease with which Master merges art and spirituality into daily life.

These three aspects demonstrate a living Master's compassion and Her achievement of perfection in spiritual practice.

What Did Master's Perfect Creations Teach Me?

Creating art and spiritual fulfilment can appear to be like two ends of a string; if we bend the string in the center, both ends will meet at the same point. An artist is made of seven parts of hard work plus three parts of talent. Most people throughout their lives can only reach the level of an artisan. Master never studied painting, fashion design, music theory, architecture or horticulture, yet this has not hindered the full growth of Her talent.

Master has said: "The more we are enlightened, the more developed our talents will be." We may not have been a born genius, but with inner enlightenment, we can develop the three parts of talent. Therefore, our lives, work and creative talent will reach the essential balance between Yin and Yang as we walk the path of enlightenment.

Perfect Designs

Most fashion designers emphasize a precise sense of beauty and line in all of their designs. However, Master's Celestial Clothes are not only beautiful, they are practical as well. Master has considered the needs of the wearer with loving care by not only wanting the wearer of the clothes to be 'beautiful,' but also 'comfortable'.

I have also observed the details of Master's Celestial Clothes. Be it a choice of buttons, the curve of the collar, the width of the sleeves, the fit or even the size of a pocket, however minor, no detail is ignored or taken lightly. The precision in the production of every part makes the clothes unique in their own way.

As far as combination of colors is concerned, Master really breaks the traditional rules. Under Her splendid arrangement, colors that are traditionally not put together are combined tastefully. The results are eye-catching.

All of these skills usually require years of accumulated experience. Master, however, has never studied fashion design, yet the precision with which She handles everything is truly incredible.

The Angels Have Come To Earth - New York Was Stunned By Their Beauty And The Charm Lingers On Indefinitely

Due to the repeated requests of the public, Master Ching Hai, the embodiment of Truth, virtue and beauty, presented the first show of the worldwide S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show at Lincoln Center in New York. Her designs belonging only to heaven are rarely seen in this world. The unique and colorful fashions had an unprecedented impact on the cultural elite of New York City.

When the news of the worldwide S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show was announced, fellow practitioners from the New York Meditation Center were both surprised and delighted to know that the first show would be held in New York City. Master was arriving very soon, so the preparation work had to be rushed. Fellow practitioners from the neighboring states and from all over the world came to join the work team. Arriving as scores of fellow practitioners, were exquisitely printed posters and leaflets for this special event.

Soon the news about Master's Celestial Clothes Fashion Show could be found at some of New York's best known landmarks, including Fifth Avenue, Broadway and the Soho district, which is renowned for its artistic atmosphere. Posters were also placed at the major fashion design colleges. Coincidentally, the grand biannual fashion show was being held at Bryan Park in New York. Thus, many of the world's fashion industry elite were in New York, including world-class designers, buyers, and senior editorial staff from many leading fashion magazines.

New York is an impersonal city. Most New Yorkers would ignore someone handing out advertising leaflets or would throw them away without even taking a glance. However, thanks to Master's power, the leaflet distribution in the park achieved a much better than expected result. Some New Yorkers were obviously attracted by the colorful leaflets because some passersby even stopped and asked for one.

Within days, everything was ready. On the night of the fashion show Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center was packed with people who jostled to appreciate the various exquisite artworks designed by Master.

The S.M. Celestial Clothes were unveiled when the angelic models appeared on stage accompanied by a fantastic orchestration of changing lights and music. Master's superbly designed costumes displayed an ingenuity that surely was the work from Heaven. These exceptionally styled Celestial Clothes were amply complemented by the elegant and graceful movements of the models. This absolutely dazzling show was definitely superior to any ordinary commercial fashion show.

At the conclusion of the show, amid applause and cheering, all the models, who were dressed in resplendent evening gowns, lined up and walked with Master to the center of the stage. Master, as the designer, briefly greeted the audience before the first S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show ended with thunderous applause.

Apart from marvelling at the garments, the guests also sensed very deeply Master's strong blessing power. When Master appeared during the curtain call, some fellow practitioners saw an immeasurable radiance on the stage that almost blinded them. A fashion designer at the scene remarked that he had seen innumerable fashion shows, and he rated Master's show as exceptional. Apart from being inspired by Master's elegant and beautifully designed clothes, this gentleman was also deeply impressed by Master's concluding speech. According to him, fashion designers usually have their speeches well prepared, and always say the same things. However, this gentleman felt that Master spoke entirely from Her heart, and he was deeply touched by Her words.

In attendance was an American expert who had done research on ancient theories like Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and traditional Chinese Medicine. He believed that Master was definitely a fully enlightened being. He also said that the energy field in the venue was so good that he was reluctant to leave. Master's extraordinary energy force was also detected by an astrologer. At the venue, many interested people asked for Master's books, and expressed their desire to begin a vegetarian diet.

There was a tea party after the show for the many VIP guests. The guest list included: the German Consul General to New York, Mr. and Mrs. Holtermann; the Swiss Consul in New York, Mr. Andre R. Jaccard; a representative from the New York State Government, Ms. Yvette Taylor; and many celebrities from the fashion and photographic industries.

During Master's stay in New York, She was interviewed by many news media representatives, including: Ms. Belinda Hsu, the Sales Manager and Producer of the Chinese American Voice, Inc.; the Branch Director of the Chinese Radio Network in New York, Mr. Kane Ho; the President of the New York Sino Radio Broadcasts Corporation, Mr. Hsin-Yuan Cheng; the Interdimensional TV Show Channel 16; China Times Business Weekly; Chinatimes News Weekly; World Journal; Asia American Times; Chinese Communication Channel; Augusta Focus of Georgia; Overseas TV Network; Chung Wah Commercial Broadcasting Co.; Spanish Radio; Time Warner Cable; and many others. Thanks to the news media, Master's S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show attracted wide attention in New York.

Three-Day Retreat After Easter

Over the Easter weekend, a three-day retreat was held at the Austin Ashram. The retreat occurred at a wild and beautiful site in the hill country of San Marcos, Texas. The magnificent, rugged landscape was a perfect complement to the serene spiritual atmosphere at the Ashram. Colorful flowers were in full bloom and the trees were overflowing with new leaves. The spring grass, bathed in dew, grew fresh and strong.

The Austin Ashram has been improved significantly since the last retreat, during the New Year's holiday. Fellow initiates throughout Texas did a fine job in constructing the kitchen, bathroom and shower facilities. The parking lot and roads were well paved with gravel. The camping grounds were cleared of stones and cacti. Electrical poles and new light fixtures were installed. Adequate supplies of water are now available for drinking and bathing.

Ever since Master personally developed the Ashram and set a perfect example for all fellow practitioners, those in Texas cherish the Ashram even more. They all worked earnestly to turn it into a paradise. Now, the Austin Ashram has become a most ideal place for holding meditation activities.

As we enjoyed the tranquil and beautiful atmosphere here, all the fellow practitioners were very grateful to Master, and missed Her affectionately.

Master's Love Embraces The Oklahoma Bombing Tragedy

On the morning of April 19, 1995, a terrorist bomb detonated at the federal building in Oklahoma City, killing many innocent people. This bombing is the largest terrorist attack ever in U.S. history. At that time, Master was busy preparing for the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show in London, England. Upon receiving the bad news, She immediately instructed fellow practitioners in the nearby states to pray for those who were killed, and to help those who had survived. Master also requested that all the fellow initiates around the world pray for the victims of this calamity.

Disciples from various cities in Texas and Oklahoma gathered in Oklahoma City to try to help the victims. Many disciples from Houston, Austin, Dallas, and Tulsa drove for long hours to Oklahoma City and were immediately ready to help the victims in any way. After disciples from the various places met at the meditation center in Oklahoma City to discuss the strategy of the relief work, they quickly went into action. Some disciples were sent out as scouts to assess the situation, to see what needed to be done and to learn how they could best help, while others meditated and prayed to Master to help the innocent victims.

The site of the tragedy was under heavy security as police and FBI personnel surrounded the devastated building. Due to heavy rain and a police blockade, many people were unable to go into the site to offer help. Even the media encouraged people not to go near the bombed building. Due to Master's blessings, we were able to go into the area and deliver our supplies and volunteer our help. Our scouts quickly delivered a truckload of medical supplies and fresh fruit that was in great demand. Red Cross personnel told us that they needed as many volunteers as we could offer and the only qualification for volunteers was the quality of compassion.

On the way back, the scouts checked the local hospitals to see how many victims were in each hospital and to request to take gifts to the injured victims. Due to the advanced medical technology in the U.S.A., most of the patients were quickly treated and released on the same day. Those who remained in the hospitals were usually the critically injured who required prolonged medical attention.

We found that in the children's hospital many of the children had died the night before. Even though we were not allowed to visit these patients, the hospital staff welcomed us to leave our gifts for them, knowing that if they woke up, they would be happy to see that some people cared about them.

The scouts returned and work teams were quickly formed. One small team was in charge of taking the volunteers to the Red Cross. Another team went out to buy fruit, toys and candies for the victims. Another team collected donations to be given to the Red Cross. More than four thousand dollars cash was donated by the disciples.

In a short time, fresh fruit, toys, and candies were brought in and put into beautifully decorated baskets. Master's sample booklets were then carefully put into each gift basket so that those victims could receive additional blessings from Her. Many disciples' eyes were filled with tears knowing that Master's love was in each gift basket which would be put into the rooms of those critically injured victims.

The gift baskets were quickly delivered to the injured victims in hospitals around the city. Some hospital personnel even asked about Master, accepted the sample booklets, and their pictures to be taken with the disciples.

In the meantime, the disciples who volunteered to assist the Red Cross worked feverishly unloading trucks filled with urgently needed supplies. They had to sort all the items and then reload the trucks. After many hours of hard work, many solid-looking American men were amazed at how even the smallest disciples were capable of working so hard and were all the while filled with so much love. The disciples were content in the knowledge that everything was the result of the work of our inner Master, and hoped that their American friends would come to realize this as well.

As the days' work came to an end, personnel at the Red Cross along with other volunteers came and shook our hands and offered "high fives." At that instant, there were no racial barriers, hatred, or mistrust - there was love and only love. Perhaps the only good thing that came out of this tragic incident is a lesson for all humans about how to love one another.

When all was done, disciples said their good-byes at the Red Cross and began their long journey home. It was indeed a precious experience for everyone to combine love with action, by sharing Master's love with the victims and relief personnel.

I Have Come To Take You Home

A fellow initiate at the Los Angeles Center had done a little favor for one of his American friends that turned out to have a significant impact on both the friend and his family. It all started out with the initiate's goodwill gesture of donating a copy of Master's new book, "I Have Come To Take You Home," to his friend.

One night, after reading this book, his friend went to sleep and in his dreams, he saw Master come to him, gently pat him on the shoulder, and say in a gentle voice, "Follow me and I will save you!" The following day, he immediately contacted the fellow initiate to get directions to the Los Angeles Center. As it was already the weekend, he did not waste a single minute, but hurriedly took his whole family in the early morning to the Center as directed. After driving on the freeway for a while, he realized that he must have left the piece of paper with the directions at home. It was then a little too late for a return trip because he did not want to miss the appointment with his initiated friend at the Center. He decided to keep driving while contemplating what Master had said to him that night.

While driving, he started looking around in hopes that he could find an initiate driving nearby; he then saw a little car behind him with a shiny object hanging from the rear view mirror, swinging back and forth, reflecting the glittering sunlight. A closer look assured him that the object was, indeed, a picture of Master, which he had been intentionally looking for. Content at what seemed to be a mere coincidence at first, he kept driving while remaining a comfortable distance from the car behind, without removing his eyes from Master's picture.

When the car behind left the freeway, he still kept a distance from it without having the slightest idea of where he was going. As the car started to slow down and veer to the left with a turn signal, he had no choice but to do likewise and eventually found himself parking next to that car in the Center's parking lot. When he told this story to the fellow initiate from the car behind him, she just shook her head in disbelief and said, "How could you follow me when I was behind you?" It was then that he quickly realized that he had followed Master to the Los Angeles Center. That lucky fellow American finally found the answer to his dream and immediately applied to practice the Convenient Method of meditation along with his family members before joining our big Quan Yin family.

Baptism Of Truth, Virtue And Beauty

Shortly before Master arrived in London the usually overcast sky became fine and clear. As the morning sun rose slowly on the horizon, Great Britain welcomed Master Ching Hai, who had been away for many years.

At Heathrow Airport, dozens of lucky British fellow initiates, would-be initiates and their respective relatives, experienced a most moving moment. Many local fellow practitioners saw Master in person for the first time, and could not help crying.

Disregarding the exhaustion of the trip, Master distributed blessed food to everyone, and made a brief speech. Upon seeing Master, all the tiredness experienced by the fellow practitioners who had helped prepare the forthcoming S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show vanished instantly with the dark clouds as the sun shone brilliantly.

After a short rest, Master met the local press in the afternoon. She briefly introduced some of the Celestial Clothes collection and then answered their questions. Representatives from about ten newspapers attended the press conference, including The Independent, U.K., Sing Tao Daily News, Chinese News Entertainment Ltd., Siyu Chinese Times Supplement, the Hong Kong Express News and others.

On the evening of April 22nd, the second show of Master Ching Hai's World-wide Celestial Fashion Show was staged at the Wembley Conference Center in London. Master sat with the audience this time, to enjoy the performance. The models appeared under the spotlights one by one, displaying over one hundred exquisite masterpieces designed by Master. The collection included graceful evening gowns, charming Arabian costumes, carefree casual wear, romantic silky dresses and the noble lotus dress, which made the audience gasp in appreciation. There was frequent cheering and warm applause from the entire audience. Everyone seemed to be in heaven, fervently savoring this baptism of Truth, virtue and beauty.

Concluding the show, all the models appeared on stage again and invited Master, with warm applause, to join them. Master expressed Her gratitude to all the models, cosmeticians, hair stylists and the supporting staff backstage. Master said that the models had become more beautiful since joining the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Shows because their inner noble qualities had been elevated. She also emphasized that spiritual practice develops our inner almighty power, which can achieve what was thought to be impossible before. The quest for beauty, Master said, is not contradictory to spiritual practice because God is embodied in Truth, virtue and beauty.

Amid thundering applause and the lingering gaze of the audience, Master went backstage where She shook hands with each of the working staff and once again expressed Her thanks. Later, at the Fashion Show tea party, Master had a delightful meeting with many VIPs from a variety of professions. She also answered questions from the media. Meanwhile, the crowd lingered in the exhibition hall appreciating Master's paintings, longevity lamps and Celestial Jewelry Collection. The crowd was intoxicated by the glorious and blissful atmosphere of heaven, and was reluctant to leave.

After the tea party, Master personally initiated some Truth aspirants, and delivered a concise yet very brilliant discourse. She then walked around the hall blessing the fellow initiates who were meditating. Having been immersed in Master's infinite love, the fellow practitioners received the greatest comfort for their souls.

On the next afternoon, in spite of Her exhaustion, Master went to the Imperial Polytechnic Institute to join the fellow practitioners for group meditation. Cherry trees were in full bloom outside the venue, as if welcoming Master, who was beautifully dressed in a yellow Indian like costume. Master took the time to answer all the questions asked by the new initiates, and then meditated with everyone.

After Master's short and busy stay in England, She quickly left for Paris leaving the British initiates with an unforgettable memory and feeling of thankfulness.

The Beautiful S.M. Celestial Clothes Stun Paris

In April, the weather in Paris is quite comfortable, with occasional drizzle enhancing the city's romantic atmosphere. Like a warm spring breeze, the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show swept into Paris, where many of the world's most famous fashion designers have their headquarters. The S.M. Collection contains a unique array of clothes created by Master Ching Hai, and displays the glorious and elegant colors of spring - quite in contrast to the dark theme of the Paris winter collection. Having heard about the two sensational Shows held earlier in New York and London, members of the Parisian fashion circle eagerly awaited the exhibition of Master's S.M. Celestial Clothes in their city, hoping to witness the splendor of Her designs.

At the Palais Des Congres de Paris, the Show was professionally orchestrated, using the latest lighting and audio equipment. When the beautiful Paris models danced onto the stage wearing the colorful and graceful S.M. Celestial Clothes, they appeared like goddesses descending from heaven. Because it was their third show, their nimble steps and proud smiles showed their awareness of the greatness of the Celestial Clothes designed by Master Ching Hai. Indeed, this precisely reflected Master 's motto when She designed the Clothes - 'Beautiful Within and Without.' An audience of about two thousand people filled the venue, continuously applauding, whistling, cheering, and clapping in rhythm to the music, another of Master Ching Hai's creations, which accompanied the models on stage. Blessed by Master's tremendous energy of love, the audience was deeply moved. Even men were seen secretly wiping away their tears. This enlightened us to the fact that lecturing is not the only way in which Master teaches. In fact, all of Her activities teach and benefit sentient beings by spreading Her immense storehouse of love.

The climax of the evening occurred when Master appeared in an elegant, dark blue traditional Au Lac styled evening gown decorated with glittering Celestial Jewelry. The entire audience stood up and cheered, voicing their approval of the performance. The applause and cheering persisted while Master introduced and thanked all the people who had worked diligently to make the evening an unqualified success; but She humbly refused to take any credit.

Immediately after the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show was over, Master attended a tea party with VIPs, press and other media reporters. Later that evening She had dinner with Her models. They were treated to an exquisite vegetarian feast, served with non-alcoholic champagne, prepared by fellow practitioners from Paris. At the same time, a counter was set up in the main hall to handle initiation procedures. Also exhibited were paintings, Celestial Jewelry, and lamps created by Master. Many guests were intensely fascinated by the elaborate jewelry, whose exceptional designs embody the noble ideals of Truth, virtue and beauty, and bring a subtle touch of elegance to their owners. Many VIPs were delighted because in addition to the Fashion Show, they also experienced a wonderful array of art created by Master Ching Hai. Thus, in keeping with Master's words, they savored both inner and outer beauty at the Show.

The VIP guests present included: Mr. & Ms. Chong Jung Yun and Mr. Rong-Nan Qui, the official Formosan Representatives in France; Mr. Hsiao, the Visa Superintendent for the Formosan Representative in France; Mr. Lam, London Director General of Global Group Bank in France; Mr. Chan-De Wu, from the Chinese Embassy in France; Mr. & Ms. Wang Chun, owners of CITS; and Mr. Chan-June Wang, the representative of China Airlines in France. During Her stay in Paris, Master Ching Hai was also interviewed by various media organizations, including the Europe Daily News, the Paris Dragon News, TIN TUC News, Silk Road News, Figaro News, Sing Tao Daily News, RFI Radio, Canal Plus News, the French News Agency, Radio Here & Now, and the Chinese Division of RFI Radio, to mention only a few.

After the Fashion Show, the Paris Meditation Center was reinforced by a group of new members because of an initiation granted by Master, who even went to the initiation venue to bless the new initiates in person. Besides these new initiates, some fellow practitioners who were initiated in Paris but had never seen Master before, also had their prayers answered by being able to spend time with Master. They all claimed to be extremely blissful when seeing Her, and were touched by Her immaculate care and concern. Observing the contentment and bliss beaming from their faces, it was clear that Master's love not only permeated the souls of these people, but also imbued the whole European Continent with God's wellspring of love. From Paris, the S.M. Celestial Clothes Fashion Show next descends on Milan, Italy, where no doubt Master Ching Hai's enchanting, ethereal creations will continue to excite the world.

The Poetic S.M. Celestial Fashion Show Like Flowing Water And Floating Cloud

The additional show in Milan was arranged in a very short time. Most members of the work team could not participate because they did not have enough time to get visas. Also, there were no branch centers or fellow practitioners there. The scene was hectic and everyone had to work quickly, yet the show created a great stir and the results were perfectly sensational, all thank to Master's blessings!

Through God's fantastic arrangement, the advance coordinating work was carried out smoothly. With the help of a female Italian reporter (now a would-be initiate practicing the Convenient Method), the news was quickly spread to the local fashion elite and media. That day happened to be a holiday, but the place was packed with reporters who kept coming like an endless stream. More reporters were present than even at the previous shows. All the major fashion magazines and newspapers also sent their representatives to get the news.

The reporters were very conscientious, jotting down Master's answers. They also raised questions about spiritual practice. The most senior writer in Milan, a ninety-eight year old reporter, Professor Ardito Desio, was also attracted by Master and attended the press conference. Being a key press person in Milan, Professor Desio had met many political leaders from different countries. He had also explored the Himalayas many times. He and Master had a delightful conversation during this gathering.

Most fashion shows are held on a much smaller scale. It was most exceptional to have large audiences of thousands of people like those at the super shows in New York, London and Paris! This time in Milan, the show was held in the usual style of an ordinary fashion show. People invited were the local celebrities, reporters, famous fashion designers and personages from well-known fashion establishments. In Master's opinion, this show was the best and the most outstanding one performed by the models. Their happiness, which was generated from within, accounted for their nimble and fluent performances on stage. The audience were true professionals, and the atmosphere was harmonious.

At the conclusion of the show, Master invited all the working staff onto the stage to answer the curtain call. Returning backstage, Master cordially chatted with all the workers, and gave each one a red envelope, symbolizing auspiciousness. They were just like a close family. Later, Master attended a tea party, and many celebrities, reporters and designers joined the joyful occasion. A would-be designer admired Master very much, and said, "I have seen all the famous fashion designers' shows, but have never observed any designer who could create poetry with a fashion show!" The other guests present also sincerely appreciated Master's designing and artistic talents.

A Muslim lady, after seeing Master's Arabian designs, was deeply moved. She told Master, in front of her child, that she felt that Master was very close to them. When Master answered "I am also a Muslim!," she was touched even more. Before the initiation in Milan, the scene of the reunion of Master and disciples was most heartwarming and exciting. A fellow sister came all the way from Poland in spite of her financial situation. She prayed sincerely and persistently, and managed to reach the venue in time just by getting free rides all the way. Upon seeing Master, she could not help crying in ecstasy, and Master gave her the fan She was using.

At the tea party, there was a staff member from the Miss Italy Pageant who praised Master's fashion show, and also regarded Master very highly. He invited Master to be the VIP of the Pageant qualifying contest. Master generously consented to his sincere invitation. On the day of the Miss Italy Pageant, fellow practitioners attended in their finest attire. At the venue, there was an impressive gathering of celebrities and elegant personages. The judges were publishers of famous fashion magazines. Following the social greetings, many people enquired further about Master and our practicing group. Therefore, the fellow practitioners naturally spread Master's love and teachings, and accomplished a Truthspreading activity after the fashion show.

God's arrangement was truly too fantastic to be described, or to be predicted! The following remark appeared in a fashion magazine: "The world's fashion trend, that has been going astray for the last thirty years, has returned to the normal sense only recently...." Master's Celestial Clothes happened to be introduced to the world at this very moment, and became the focus of the fashion elite in the U.S., Europe and the world, as the top paradigm leading the trend in a positive direction.

Good Response To The Healthy Life Exhibition

With Master's blessing, fellow practitioners from New Zealand participated in the Healthy Life Exhibition, the most significant event in that country. Master's photos, paintings, books, and video tapes were exhibited. Sample booklets and News magazines were also distributed. There was a tremendous response. Many spectators left their names and addresses, wishing to receive the News magazine regularly. After the event, many of them attended a seminar on the Quan Yin Method, and watched Master's lecture videos. After the seminar, many people immediately enrolled to practice the Convenient Method, preparing to receive initiation.

This was the first time the fellow practitioners in New Zealand had taken part in an exhibition. Although there were not many initiates, everyone worked well together. Therefore, the exhibition was very successful. Some fellow practitioners from faraway Tauranga even drove for hours to the exhibition venue in Auckland. The Sydney Meditation Center in Australia also helped with the exhibition by sending a fellow initiate who brought along sample booklets on the plane. What was even more of a coincidence was that there were some fellow practitioners from Switzerland and the U.S.A. touring New Zealand who also gave much assistance. They seemed to have been sent particularly by Master to help.

Many spiritual groups took part in this exhibition, and many spectators were spiritual practitioners. Facing Master's photograph, they could sense the tremendous blessing power and indicated that it was incredible. A New Zealand meditation teacher also expressed that a gigantic energy field could be felt in front of the booth set up by the fellow initiates. He asked the fellow initiates at the venue about this, and they explained that it was Master's blessing power. The teacher then understood.

One week after the exhibition, the New Zealand fellow initiates held a seminar on the Quan Yin Method at the Pembridge Conference Hall - an old historic building facing Auckland University. Master's lecture videos were shown, and then the contact person of the Auckland Meditation Center conducted a discussion to answer questions asked by the guests. With Master's blessing, the atmosphere in the venue was very positive. A spiritual practitioner revealed that she could feel Master's magnetic field upon entering the hall, and heard Master telling her, "Welcome home!" She has already decided to receive initiation.

Apart from the scheduled weekly group meditation, the New Zealand fellow practitioners had especially held group meditation sessions the day before and every day during the exhibition, praying for Master's blessing. They also prayed earnestly for Master to come and lecture in New Zealand. Many guests who made an affinity with Master at the exhibition or seminar also longed to see Her.

Report From Penang

The Cheshire Home's Joyous Party

Fellow initiates in Penang, Malaysia, together with their friends and relatives, went to the Cheshire Home (for the handicapped) to hold a party for its unfortunate residents. They also invited friends from the two United Union Centers. One center is a workshop for the handicapped and the other is a home for young abused children.

The party began in the early evening with a Chinese and Indian vegetarian meal. The feast included cakes, fruit, frozen deserts and other delicious food. The dinner was accompanied by Master's soothing songs. Many people were surprised that vegetarian food could be so delicious.

Fellow initiates then set up a karaoke machine to let the young handicapped children express their feelings through song. For the children it was a very unforgettable experience.

The next event allowed residents of the Cheshire Home to vote for their most well-liked person, so as to encourage them to love, care, and help each other.

One of the games played during the party was wheel-chair baccarat. Fellow initiates joined in and truly displayed their love. The game was played with fellow brothers and sisters pushing the residents around in their wheel-chairs and competing. It received a warm response from the participants, bringing joy and much laughter into everyone's heart. The winners all received prizes.

The climax of the evening was the lucky draw. One of the most beautiful prizes was a pendant with Master's photo. The fortunate winner was a lovely girl who was sadly polio-stricken. When she received the pendant she broke into a magnificent smile, and immediately wore the pendant with pride.

The first special prize was a Walkman. One fellow brother overheard that a certain little polio-stricken girl was very keen on getting this prize, but unfortunately she did not win it. This fellow brother bought a Walkman for the little girl the next day. This thoughtful expression of love deeply moved the girl and her mother.

The evening's events closed with everyone singing 'Auld Lang Syne.' Fellow initiates and friends went around shaking hands with all of the Cheshire Home's residents. A warm gathering thus came to a conclusion. All of our souls were enriched because of the love that had been exchanged. Someone even requested that we hold another gathering like this one in the future.

It was raining slightly, but intermittently, throughout the evening. Consequently, the truck driver originally had been worried that the karaoke equipment would be rained on when transported back. Strangely, when the party was over, the rain also stopped. And when the last piece of audio equipment was safely moved from the truck into the house, it started to rain hard. This was definitely Master reminding us not to forget the Supreme Power that is always working in the background, just as She reminds us in Her song, 'Remember Me When The Rain Falls.'

Spreading Master's Teachings Outside Palawan Camp

In order to let more people have the opportunity to know about the 'Quan Yin Method' and receive its benefits, fellow practitioners from Palawan went especially to the area outside of the refugee camp, Puerto Princesa City, to play Master's video tapes for the enjoyment of the Philippine nationals. The local residents were very supportive and helpful. They helped fellow practitioners beautifully decorate the venue. You could see Master's books and pictures being arranged in a pleasant and orderly fashion. Master's posters were hung at elevated spots so that everyone could see them easily. Then groups and groups of people came one after another. Everyone was in high spirits at being able to participate in this grand event. When Master's tape on daily life was being played, following Her footsteps as She spread the Truth all over the world, everyone was deeply moved by Master's noble, chivalrous deeds and boundless love for the world. Countless pairs of yearning, innocent eyes stared unceasingly at Master's image on the screen. Although the playing time was only a few short hours, it had already caused the Philippine compatriots to feel a great deal, realizing that Master, with Her loving heart, had used a variety of methods to help the people of the world to walk the path of liberation.

Sharing God's Love

Brother Jun De Jesus, a minister of the United Church, has set up 'The Organization of God's Love for International Children' in Manila, the Philippines, especially for taking care of lost and orphaned children. It also has a church in which believers can pray and gather on weekends. Jun De Jesus wrote to Master and received Her care and help; thus he invited the local Quan Yin messenger to his church so that he and the church members could have a chance to discuss Master's teachings.

During the discussion, many questions about the Quan Yin Method were raised that helped people to understand Master's teachings and the true facts about life, death, and reincarnation. The Quan Yin messenger also presented them with Master's books and magazines for future reference. Someone then brought up questions on the benefits of eating vegetarian food and on how to gain enlightenment. After a period of discussion and exchange of opinions, all the participants came to understand more about Master's subtle teachings.

The day after the meeting, Jun De Jesus visited the Center in order to better understand the Quan Yin Method. After having further discussions with the Quan Yin messenger about his doubts regarding life, death, and reincarnation, he not only became instantly enlightened and felt very satisfied, but was also more convinced about Master's teachings. This sincere, open-minded person easily accepted Master's message. Now he is practicing the Convenient Method of Meditation and is also spreading Master's teachings to the Philippine people nearby.

On the third day, the Quan Yin messenger and fellow practitioners from the camp made a large batch of cookies imprinted with the message, 'Master is Love,' and presented them to Jun De Jesus to distribute to the local children, so that everyone would be able to share God's love. The children happily enjoyed the cookies and also sang anthems of love along with the fellow practitioners who had visited them. They all became immersed in a moment of boundless warmth and love.

Multifarious Activities And A Multi-Styled Life

Master has instructed fellow practitioners to learn more English so that people of different nationalities can communicate more easily. The Mongkok Book Circulation Center also recently set up an English class. Fellow practitioners enthusiastically participated, hoping that after improving their English, they can better understand Master's English lectures. Besides learning some basic English conversation in class, they also invited Master to be the teacher - everyone learned English by listening to Master's lectures and songs. Everyone sang and danced while learning English, feeling a great deal of joy and enthusiasm.

Considering that computer usage is becoming more and more common in today's society, whether on the job or in helping with the work of the Center, the computer has gradually become indispensable. Therefore, besides the English class, a 'Basic Computer Usage' class was also arranged to accommodate those fellow practitioners who need to become more computer literate. Also, for the sake of fellow practitioners' children, a school-work counseling class was formed with the higher grade children teaching the lower grade children. They hoped that they could help one another and transform the spirit of cooperation into a form of consolidated power, so that under the protection of the huge Quan Yin family they could together face the possible pressures met in schools, and learn to break through the thorny undergrowth on the road of spiritual practice.

Many people are off work on Saturday afternoons, and the Book Circulation Center becomes full of people watching Master's tapes, reading Her books, and enjoying Her works of art. The school-work counseling, computer and English classes set up by fellow practitioners are held at the same time; the atmosphere has been cordial and harmonious. Even some non-initiates are silently joining in, learning on the side!

Moving Toward The New Vegetarian Age!

Since March, on Saturday afternoons, the Vegetarian House, opposite the Mongkok Book Circulation Center, has set up a free vegetarian cooking class that attracts more and more city folks interested in vegetarian food to take part. Fellow practitioners, feeling that this is an opportunity to share with the public their own vegetarian experiences and a hard-to-get opportunity for self-learning, happily participate by taking turns in teaching their own special dishes. In the vegetarian classes, not only are cooking demonstrations and food tasting conducted, but also free copies of recipes are distributed.

Once, a demonstrating fellow practitioner indicated to the audience that after going home, besides cooking more vegetarian dishes to change the eating and drinking habits of their family members, it would be good if they could also try their best to promote and teach others how to cook vegetarian food. In doing this, it was hoped that as a result of more and more people in Hong Kong becoming vegetarian, the atmosphere here would become more harmonious. The talk was immediately responded to with thunderous and approving applause from the whole audience, indicating that many people in Hong Kong have accepted the new vegetarian eating concept. In the future, this will certainly be the leading trend in improving Hong Kong's quality of health and life.

On April 1st, All Fools' Day, fellow practitioners 'entertained' others and themselves by holding a promotional vegetarian buffet feast. Video tapes introducing the benefits of vegetarian food and Master's songs were played at the venue. Fellow practitioners also had each of the dishes named with beautiful-sounding names. That night was truly filled with a complete spectrum of sounds, colors, fragrances and tastes. Some of the participants were very surprised that vegetarian dishes could also be so diverse and delicious.

Planting Trees To Green The Mountains And Woods At The Ching Ming Festival

On the day of the Ching Ming Festival, fellow practitioners brought their families and friends to take part in a very meaningful tree-planting activity. On the way to a park in the suburbs, everyone sang together on the bus. One Indian fellow sister even sang a song in Hindi yearning for Master. Her voice was full of devotion and longing.

Arriving at a mountain destroyed by fire, the sponsoring unit allocated an area of land for tree planting and taught everyone how to plant seedlings. Fellow practitioners and their families enthusiastically began to work. The people practicing the Quan Yin Method did things extremely quickly and well. Originally, the sponsoring unit's target for each person was to plant just a few trees. But the number of trees planted by everyone was far beyond expectations! Even the young fellow practitioners and the small children of some friends and relatives would not let others take the credit alone. Digging holes and moving the soil away, they were not left behind at all. They planted the seedlings on the slope with much loving care. The staff responsible for sponsoring this activity was very surprised with the fellow practitioners' efficiency and quality of work. As a result, they were very much interested in our organization and made repeated inquiries.

After planting the trees, it was still early; so everyone meditated in the wilderness, enjoyed the scenery, or made jokes. Some even started to sing or dance spontaneously, and some exercised or practiced Tai Chi Chuen. All of the participants happily and harmoniously enjoyed a fresh and carefree morning.

A Picnic In A Forest Park Enhances Family Love

In order for the friends and families of fellow initiates to mix with the big family of Quan Yin practitioners and for them to share in God's love, the Taipei Branch Center organized a special weekend picnic. The picnic combined recreation with spiritual practice to allow fellow initiates and their guests to enjoy a carefree, happy, colorful and a blessed "spiritually balanced" holiday.

In the early morning, fellow initiates and their families arrived at the Fu Te Forest Recreation Park in Linko. They brought with them simple eating utensils, vegetables, fruit, hammocks, and other items, and started the barbecue. In the relaxed atmosphere, they enjoyed talking with one another, barbecuing, eating, playing games, lying in the hammocks, and meditating. The mood was warm, cordial and full of family love.

After lunch each of the various groups from Taipei Center performed a program to entertain the initiates and guests. The heavy-set brothers who usually do guard duty performed the "Fan Dance" with the grace and gentleness of goddesses. The audience all had a good laugh. The service group led the audience in action songs. Other programs included traditional dancing, a magic show by a guest, singing, and playing musical instruments.

Some competitions and prize drawings followed. Everyone, young and old, initiates and non-initiates, fervently participated in the activities. The atmosphere was extremely lively. The fast pace and continuously changing activities kept everyone on their toes, while they thoroughly enjoyed each others' company to their hearts' content.

Seeing families relaxed and happy, talking about vegetarian cooking and Master's teaching, fellow initiates all felt the blessing of Master's infinite love. Everyone really enjoyed coming together to share a rich and delicious as well as spiritual meal. Everyone eagerly anticipates the next gathering!

A Children's Exposition

In early April, the Taoyuan Meditation Center participated in a Children's Exposition held at Judan. The main themes of the event were "spirituality, health and environmental protection." The local initiates displayed information about Master's teachings, and the promotion of vegetarian food, as well as material provided by the Environmental Protection Department, which covered all three themes of the exhibition.

The exhibition booths for Master's books and artistic creations and the Vegetarian House were located in the center of the venue. A wall-sized screen was set up displaying Master's videotapes, including film collections and lectures. There was a continuous stream of spectators in the venue, and many people took the initiative to obtain sample booklets and News magazines.

A lady told one fellow practitioner that she was inspired to go out that day, and felt that something special would happen. Consequently, she came to the venue and felt very happy when she saw Master's sample booklets. She got a copy and went straight home feeling that her wish had been fulfilled.

The products from the Vegetarian House were also warmly received. "Let our hearts be filled with love. The animals will be our best friends." This is not only a slogan but also a fact. After tasting a vegetarian hamburger, a bakery owner liked the flavor of the vegetarian patty very much. He even felt that it was too troublesome to make meat patties, and planned to order the vegetarian patties from the Vegetarian House in the future.

Another guest saw Master's poster with the title: "The Great Master from the Himalayas," and then looked at the Vegetarian House information. He pointed at the poster of Master, asking lovingly, "Is this the great chef who comes from the Himalayas?"

Amid the activity, fellow practitioners working at the venue felt tremendous blessings from Master. They did not feel exhausted even in an environment where the crowd reached almost ten thousand. Childhood is the foundation of the whole of life's structure. It is hoped that the spiritual seeds sown now will blossom into beautiful flowers in later life. Fellow practitioners hope that through this exposition, a concept will be established in the minds of the public to beautify the earth, and to care for themselves and the next generation.

Mountain Cleaning Operation At The Jiao Ban Mountain Park

Fellow practitioners from Taoyuan once again went to the Jiao Ban Mountain Park to clean up the area. The greenish hills, the blue water and the narrow, long, hanging bridge, orchestrated a beautiful and serene scene.

Last year, when they went there for the first time, many ravines and slopes were littered and piled with old cans. The quantity of garbage collected in that operation filled several trucks and was most shocking. Visiting the mountain this time, the condition had apparently improved.

It was learned that the last mountain clean-up operation received quite a positive response. Many community groups followed our lead and listed the location as an important spot on the mountain cleaning scheme. However, 'What you throw away, I pick up' is merely a temporary solution. A permanent solution requires that the tourists stop littering.

Close to the ferry pier, there were many cans tightly half-buried in the earth. With great patience, a young would-be initiate gradually excavated the earth with some big tongs, trying to dig up the cans. Observing this small child working with such concentration and persistence, the older fellow practitioners asked her whether she was fond of treasure hunting games. The child's answer surprised everyone: "No! Master said that we should accomplish one job before starting to do another." Her words evoked deep feelings in the hearts of the adult practitioners, who were both touched and delighted. They never dared to scoff again at the Buddha nature of children.

After clearing the garbage, everyone gathered beneath the trees for a vegetarian barbecue. Even the non-initiated guests savored the delicious meal. The atmosphere was most harmonious. After the feast and having accomplished the chief objective of cleaning the mountain, fellow practitioners, adults and children alike, took the opportunity to relax their bodies and minds with some entertainment. They enjoyed group games together. Their laughter echoed through the mountain forest, which was filled with the perfume of spring.

Planting, Greening, And Environmental Protection

The "Family Planting and Ten Thousand People Mass Walking For Health Activity" was launched at Ba Gua Mountain in Changhua. The event was sponsored by the Agricultural and Forestry Department of the provincial government and undertaken by the Changhua Women's International Chamber of Commerce. Many other organizations were invited to support this activity. The Changhua Meditation Center also joined in the event. After many overcast and rainy days, the rains stopped temporarily on the day of the activity. Thus, whole series of projects, including family tree planting, and propaganda for greening and environmental protection, could be carried out smoothly.

That day, fellow practitioners helped with the registering of the crowd. They experienced the compassionate teaching in Master's aphorism, "The more we work, the more we will be enlightened." They also found themselves to be the instruments of Master's love, conveying a good atmosphere of spiritual practice to the people. Even when thousands flooded in in a short period of time, their work still went on efficiently. Most of the people came with their families, young and old. When they saw the children enthusiastically planting saplings in the wet soil, they felt the deep meaning of the Chinese aphorism, "Trees planted by the ancestors provide shade for their descendants."

At the end of the activity, when the crowd gradually dispersed, fellow practitioners stayed behind to replant the saplings that were not planted well. This surprised the work crew at the site very much, and they greatly admired Master for being so good in Her teaching and guidance.

Through this kind of social service, people are reminded once again of the importance of greening and environmental protection. The world will become a better place as long as everyone shows a bit more concern for it.

Enjoying A Leisurely Day In This Busy Life

To make use of a recent Sunday, Nantou Meditation Center initiates organized a group meditation in their area. It was drizzling as the day began. However, when everyone came out from the bliss of meditation, the weather was fine and breezy. Therefore the local initiates got the idea to decorate the garden and enjoy a delicious lunch in the open.

The meal started with the 'Joyful Rice Rolls' - the preparation method that was imparted by Master. The atmosphere was harmonious; everyone was chatting delightfully as if the 'Joyful Rice Rolls' had brought them joy and blessings of love.

Later, some fellow sisters, who excelled in cooking, displayed their skills and taught everyone how to cook delicious vegetarian dishes. Initiates continuously exchanged ideas and watched attentively so that they could later show off their skills at home!

Amid the attractive aromas that were wafting around, the dishes were served. They were placed on light purple table napkins, decorated by several fresh and pretty flowers. Everyone's mouth was watering as appetites heightened. Savoring the food blessed by Master, the hungry Arhats seemed to transform into happy Maitreya Buddhas, laughing cheerfully.

At present, the group meditation venue is a kindergarten provided by a fellow sister. As the number of fellow practitioners keeps on increasing, the venue is becoming too small for us to use. A fellow practitioner has offered to rent us a piece of land on a mountain slope to use as our meditation center. Therefore, after the group meditation and meal, the fellow initiates took the opportunity to investigate this possibility.

The land in question is high in the suburbs of Nantou. The quiet path on the way up there is bordered by bamboo trees. However, when half way up the mountain, the view suddenly broadened, as if the initiates had arrived at a cool and refreshing haven far from the tumultuous world.

They enjoyed cool tea, and rambled leisurely in the arms of mother nature. Chatting and joking, the team of fellow practitioners looked very happy, which aroused the curiosity of the owner of the orchard next door. Upon learning that the team was assessing the site for its potential as a meditation center, the neighbor remarked excitedly: "After your center is set up, I will also join your spiritual practice."

It was nice to have enjoyed a day of leisure after a week of busy work! Having a good Master to guide us on the spiritual path, and also the company of so many people with the same ideals, we are indeed a most blessed group!

Between Master And Disciples

I Am Closer To Master Now!

Several years ago, the International Seven-day Retreat in Costa Rica left me with profound impressions. It also gave me a deeper understanding of the physical Master and Master's transformation body.

Several fellow initiates arrived in Costa Rica a day early. That evening, Master especially spent time with us, chatting and drinking tea, and the atmosphere was very harmonious. However, the next day, upon the arrival of the Formosan initiates, Master began to scold us severely, to the point that all the Chinese initiates were not allowed to meditate in the meditation hall during the Seven-day Retreat; we could only stay in our tents. Although at the time I knew intellectually that Master must have had Her reasons for doing so, and that it was to cleanse our karma, I had doubts in my mind about the physical Master, "Shouldn't the physical Master and the inner Master be equally perfect? Why is the physical Master so crossed?"

During the seven days, we made a great deal of progress. I was not aware of it at the time, but it was due to the fact that we had been reprimanded severely. As soon as the retreat was over, I packed and went home immediately. Because of my doubt in the physical Master, my spiritual practice began to backslide. During that period of time, I was extremely miserable, I felt empty inside, and I did not meditate as diligently as before. Because of the separation I felt between myself and Master, I had blocked out Her blessing. However, when I came in touch with anything related to Master, tears would fall involuntarily, and I was constantly praying in my heart for Her early return to Formosa.

Afterward, I heard other fellow initiates say that Master cooked fruit punch to treat the Formosan initiates the day after the retreat. She told them that they had come a long way from Formosa, and She wanted to treat them well; however, they were not completely sincere, and their purpose in attending the retreat was not pure. I later learned that some of the disciples that went to the retreat had given up the vegetarian diet and had not kept the precepts clearly. No wonder Master was so severe with us. It was like the tranquil surface of a lake -- unless you throw in a large rock, how can you stir up the sand and gravel resting at the bottom?

Master once said that sometimes She asked Herself why She scolded people for no apparent reason. She did not even know why until the disciple admitted later that he really wanted to be scolded by Master that day. Therefore, it might appear on the surface that the physical Master did the wrong thing, scolded the wrong people, but who can really understand the true reasons behind Her actions?

From this I realized that the physical Master actually has human emotions just like we do, and that there are happy, joyous times and miserable, lonely times. However, for the sake of sentient beings, She can discard all the human emotions anytime. While Master's manifestation body has boundless power, in order to help the sentient beings of this world, She makes great concessions by dwelling in this small body, degrading Her position, and tolerating numerous pressures and sufferings.

After I had thought it through, I found that I had grown. Before, I used to attach myself to the physical Master and loved to cry also. Now I have changed. I no longer cry so much, and I don't cling to Master so tightly anymore. Instead, I feel that the distance between us has grown shorter, that I can better understand Master's love and the great pains She undergoes for us. I am truly grateful for Master's timely and direct warning and guidance, which helped me progress a step further on the spiritual path.

You Walked Every Step With Me

I was still an undergraduate when initiated by Master. Throughout these years, from being an innocent girl unaware of what was going on in the world, I have grown up, joined the working class, and become a wife. These prime years were literally the 'war period' between my good and bad qualities. If I still have some kind and pure qualities today, and escaped the dangerous vortex hidden in society, it is all because Master has never forsaken me. In happiness and glory, or in setback and sadness, She has always walked with me patiently, step-by-step. As the process of my initiation was smooth and unhindered, I did not cherish it. After initiation, except when attending the lectures, I used to set Master aside. In my multifarious time schedule, there was simply no place for spiritual cultivation.

One day, I suddenly looked at Master's poster hanging on the wall. Thinking about my feelings before initiation and the present state I was in, added to my emotional adversities, my tears started to fall uncontrollably. Instantly, I realized that I had missed too much. Embracing Master's books, I cried loudly and could not control myself. I was exclaiming to Master in my heart that I longed to return to Her arms.... Just then the telephone rang. The liaison person notified me that Master was coming to the group meditation in Taipei the next week, and that I could go if I wished to see Her. I cried even more pathetically.... Thanks to Master's love, I had the opportunity of rejoining the spiritual group.

After graduation, I secured a job easily, and began a new life style. However, trials to my spiritual cultivation truly existed everywhere. There were consistent conflicts among us colleagues. Several of our fellow practitioners were working in the same company, and we grew up in the process of 'polishing' each other. After some time, I became silent and spent my efforts in constantly reciting the Five Holy Names. The problems on my mind were poured out to the inner Master only.

One day, the office was bustling with people as usual, and I was concentrating on finding a file. I raised my head and suddenly saw a Buddha watching me with a smile. The golden, crystalline body was extremely beautiful! The blissful and serene brightness filled in the air. This experience let me understand, that whatever happens, Master is always by my side taking care of me, giving me faith when I need Her, so I can carry on with determination.

Later on, I came across another low point in my cultivation. On this occasion, I isolated myself and felt that the whole world had suddenly become my enemy.

At the New Year's Ball Party in Thailand, I saw my long missed Master. I could not help saying to Master in my heart: No one loves me anymore, except You. Do You still love me? Master answered my question with Her song, "I Will Forever Love You!" Looking up at the stage, I could not help crying, ruining the makeup on my face....

At the group meditation the next day, Master talked about 'love and hate,' and the cause of former lives. Finally, I was somewhat enlightened. At the end of the group meditation, Master walked around the venue as everyone bid Her farewell. Suddenly, She doubled back and stopped right in front of me, giving some further instructions to everyone. Just before leaving, Master looked at me deeply and said, "Take good care of yourself."

Now, my life is peaceful and happy. I am doing my best to play well my daily role. Although, not everything turns out as desired, I manage to handle matters as well as I can. The more important point is, Master's love taught me that I must first put my love into action before I can realize the real meaning of love.

If there is any goodness in me, it is all due to Master. If there are still many defects in me, they are exactly what I should be repenting.

Master has always been by my side. When my heart believes in Her and invites Her in, my spiritual path is full of the bliss of spring, the singing birds and the fragrant flowers. When no place is reserved in my heart for Master, the god of winter instantly freezes all life. Then, only Master remains by my side, using all sorts of methods to see me through the severe winter.

FASHION designers never tire of predicting the future, forever telling us about clothes that will "take us into the 21st century". But there is one enlightened designer who is anticipating another dimension altogether. The clothes you see here are a vision of fashion as worn in the afterlife. Supreme Master Ching Hai, the designer, was born in central Au Lac 44 years ago. The day after Her birth, Her parents' house filled with light; it was then that they knew She was "a special kid". She was educated in Britain and, after marrying a German scientist, She turned to meditation in 1978, eventually achieving "perfect enlightenment" (and separating from Her husband in the meantime). Since then, She has become a spiritual leader, inspiring disciples around the world, as well as exploring Her inner talents as a poet, painter, musician, teacher, singer and designer of precious jewellery. Her latest venture is Her own fashion label, SM Fairy Clothes.

SM stands for Supreme Master - the initials are embroidered in gold on a red background on the corner of each one of Her garments. And two weeks ago, during Britian's first-ever Worldwide SM Fairy Clothes Fashion Show (the word "fairy" was changed to "celestial" at the last minute), the Wembley Conference Center was suffused with a feeling of spirituality not normally associated with mere frocks. For these are not just clothes. They are the Supreme Master's interpretation of clothes worn in heaven. As one disciple, Lisha Li, explained, "These clothes should change the style of fashion and bring heavenly beauty into this world."

According to Ching Hai, heaven is a place full of riches, filled with billowing skirts of luxurious silks, evening dresses of liquid silver and gold, celestial dresses printed with moons and stars, and bright rainbow colours. Jewellery is made from precious metals set with pearls and diamonds: and for those who cannot wait until they get to heaven to acquire them, SM Celestial Jewellery is available in this world too.

On the catwalk, before disciples and their bemused friends, the celestial outfits were paraded in a slick, precisely choreographed show. The models, though, were not disciples; they were enjoying a three-week assignment that must have been one of the strangest of their careers. (The show also toured Paris and New York.) One of them, who had modelled for Yves Saint Laurent (less saintly than his name suggests) and Thierry Mugler, said, "With Saint Laurent, it's all on the outside. These clothes make you rich inside. It's not only fashion - it's very spiritual."

After the show, Mary E. Steck, an American disciple who had flown over from Munich to meet her guru, admitted that even she had let slip a giggle on seeing a well-formed cleavage jiggling beneath a lattice-work section of one bodice. But Ms Steck understood her Master's message: "Fashion and spirituality are not disconnected. She's saying we are all children of God and the body is not evil."

All the way through the show, Supreme Master, dressed in vibrant gold, clapped delightedly at each of Her designs. When She Herself took to the catwalk, She received a standing ovation, and said of Her disciples: "It seems every time I see them, they get more beautiful. Their souls have become more developed each day... I still marvel at God's almighty power to crate such beautiful people."

But the audience were not really there to see the clothes. After each show, Supreme Master gives an initiation ceremony; in London two weeks ago, about 100 new disciples joined, making a total of 200 devotees in this country (there are an estimated 100,000 around the world). Mary E. Steck, a committed meditator, said: "I would normally be put off a sect which has 100,000 members, but Ching Hai speaks to me personally. No one controls me." Others seemed more absorbed: one woman I tried to speak to broke off in mid-sentence the moment she spotted her guru, and drifted off in Her direction.

Two days before the show at Wembley, the Supreme Master flew in to London and was rushed to a press conference at the Park Lane Hilton. For Britons, Ron Saunders, the exmanager of Aston Villa and Norwich City football clubs, was the star performer: he had, he said, gone to India, become a disciple of Ching Hai and had come back a changed man. He had never seen a fashion show before, much less met a model. But what was really exciting him was the prospect of being near to his Supreme Master. When asked to MC the press conference, Ron was beside himself. "This is the biggest privilege of my life," he said.

"I have many attributes and talents, one of which is to create fashions for young ladies and old ladies," began Ching Hai. Supreme Master did not need the years of training endured by other, more worldly designers. She started making clothes, She said, when Her status as a spiritual leader meant that She had to meet heads of state and royalty, and She decided to design Her own clothes for such occasions. The clothes were made of silk or layers of chiffon with embroideries in gold; their brightly coloured linings symbolized inner purity which, She says, lasts longer than superficial surface beauty. But Ching Hai recognizes that women lead modern lives and She hopes Her clothes reflect their needs. "I'm not conservative," She says, pointing to a skirt with a split up to the thigh. And a silk suit in pink is designed with "shopping in a department store or drinking coffee with a boyfriend" in mind.

It is difficult to pin down to whom exactly Ching Hai does sell. But although the prices are high, there is plenty of interest; last week, the telephones at Her Oxford headquarters were buzzing. Potential customers should be ready with the minutest details of their vital statistics, though: the SM order form requires purchasers to list 24 specific body measurements

This exciting event was held on Saturday, April 15, 1995 at Avery Fisher Hall in New York's Lincoln Center. World Spiritual Leadership Award) held the first show of the grand S.M. Celestial Clothes worldwide exhibition tour at the Lincoln Art Center in New York. Guests from all over the world gathered to appreciate the show. Among them were the German Ambassador in New York, Dr. Erhard Holtermann; Germany's famous opera singer, Ms. Hildegard Behrens; and a number of New York government officials.

Before the occasion began, many guests came early to the Exhibition Hall at Lincoln Center, where they found a variety of art work on display, designed by Master Ching Hai. These included Her paintings, a variety of lamps, and the splendid and beautiful first, second and third series of the S.M. Celestial Jewelry. There was one thing worth special mention: Crowds of people gathered around the counter displaying the S.M. Celestial Jewelry Collection. Made of the finest diamonds, precious gems and Swiss gold, they were the focus of audience members prior to the show. Wholeheartedly, they praised the collection as belonging only to heaven. Each piece of jewelry bore a particular message reminding people to nurture their inner beauty and wisdom.

When the show began, one after another, the brilliant, extremely elegant and uniquely designed S.M. Celestial Clothes were displayed before the audience. The fashions were exhibited by top models from Paris, amid musical compositions by Master Ching Hai and other of classical pieces of music. The audience's response was exceptionally warm, demonstrated by their frequent loud applause and cheering. They even clapped their hands in rhythm to the music. The models were also affected by the atmosphere. Their movements became increasingly more graceful and smooth. Each of their gestures successfully depicted the creative intent conveyed by Master Ching Hai's designs. These clothes were not only impressive on the show bridge, but are also suitable to be worn on all types of occasions, being both practical and elegant in style. Besides satisfying the public's requirements for external beauty, the S.M. Celestial Clothes designed by Master Ching Hai are even more distinguished in that they remind people of the necessity to develop their own inner beauty, and to elevate their spiritual level.

Toward the end of the show, under the brilliant spotlights, Master Ching Hai appeared on stage dressed in a bright red evening gown embroidered with golden dragons. Instantly, the audience rose and cheered fervently. Many spectators rushed to the front of the stage to catch a glimpse of the elegant and beautiful demeanor of Master Ching Hai. I read in the newspapers today that life a hundred years ago was very terrible for people. They didn't have it so clean like today. And they didn't have it so convenient like this, really! At that time, I think the cars were drawn by horses. And sometimes in the winter, it was very cold. And they kept the horses next to their houses, or in the buildings. And all the smell, you know, they had to share together. Because of the manufactories' smoke and environmental contamination, the people's health were a little bit endangered. That's why in the old times, people died younger than now, because the environment was so filthy and contaminated by all kinds of hazardous substances from the manufactories and the chemical waste from all these big companies.

Actually only one hundred years, and we, humanity, have made a big step of progress in all kinds of aspects. But they said even before we had cars, they had a lot of road accidents, more road accidents than we have now with cars. I could hardly believe it. But it could be true, because they said sometimes the horses, they broke loose and then they killed thousands. And sometimes they just ran around on the road and kicked people also. Today we have car accidents also. But even at that time, they did have road accidents with horses. That is one of the main reasons.

But even then nowadays still many sicknesses kill people, kill about eighteen million a year - different diseases. Because some of us also do not take precautions to guard our precious body which has been given by God to do some mission on earth for some purpose, also to realize our almighty power. Somethings like we smoke too much, we drink too much, we eat too much flesh and invite all these bacteria from the flesh into our systems, etc. All these killing factors make our lives miserable, a miserable time.

Live A Better Life

Actually we could live a better life if we organized more, if we appreciated our body more. If we ate just nutritious food for our body, and not ate because of the taste, and ate just a reasonable amount, then of course, our health would not be so much endangered. You see, most of the vegetarian people, they become healthier. Is that not so? [Audience: Yes.] Many of you became healthier after taking initiation and switching onto a vegetarian diet. Is that not so? [Audience: Yes.] Actually, the hospitals are full of meat-eating people (laughter), no problem. We can see the proof there.

Not because the vegetarian diet is healthy in itself only, but because the vibration is very harmonious to our body. Whereby the vibrations of the animals are not that harmonious, not so peaceful. Actually, it is very easy, not difficult to live a simple and healthy life. There is no need so much for medicine, no need so much injection. Many of us harm ourselves because we bring poisonous substances into our bodies. Otherwise, if we know how to live a simple, nutritious, healthy life, we really don't need doctors so much. And the doctor can have more holidays and both of us stay healthy.

You see, I work hard, I am very small, and I don't really take so much nutrition or I don't have time to consider so much. But still being a vegetarian saves me a lot of sickness, saves a lot of money for the doctors. Otherwise, if I have to keep going to the doctor all the time, it would be troublesome. I go to the doctor sometimes, but minor things. Compared to you, I go very little. Compared to the people outside, for my size. (Laughter) You have to consider my size also. Yes, I am blessed by God and Buddha to do my job.

And sometimes, if I don't do my job, I also will get sick, because the energy is built up inside and not let out. Therefore, you don't worry about hard work. You should work and spend your energy, because in our body, there are about seven chakras which can draw in the energy from the universe. They are just like a battery, automatically charged by universal power. That's why we can run our machine all the time. And when we meditate, this power is even in more abundance. So the more we give, the more it comes in. It will never stop. So we don't worry. Don't worry about karma and helping people, or taking karma and all that. If people need help, you help.

It's only when we try to interfere with the people's mind, like try to control them, or try to tell them to do what we want them to do for a selfish purpose, then we create karma. Otherwise, if we love people and we want to help them in their time of need, even if we truly get karma from them, it doesn't matter. Understand? It doesn't matter at all, because we should sacrifice for each other. We should live with each other in love and don't mind the karma.

Just like today, occasionally you have a buffet like this, it's also very good. You can eat different food, and you see how tasty it is, and maybe you try to ask them how to cook it. Or you buy some books, cookbooks, Indian cookbook, Chinese cookbook, vegetarian and then you can cook tasty dishes for your family, keep them healthy, and also introduce them to a vegetarian diet. Most of the people like to eat vegetarian. It's just that they cannot find tasty food. And then they cannot eat it. They cannot survive if everyday they eat salad and soya sauce. (Laughter) Yeah? You know what I mean? So if sometimes our family members don't want to eat vegetarian food, we have to check-up whether our cooking talent is up-to-date. If something is wrong with our cooking technique, we can improve it by asking a neighbor, learning from the big restaurant, or learning from the people giving courses, dish courses. It's very easy.

Always try to live your life with the most fulfilling program, yeah? Never idle your lifetime. Just do everything you want. Try to learn new things. Be outgoing. Be social. Be friendly, be loving to all the people and learn everything from each other. There is no need to sit there and feel miserable about your life, about your misfortune. There is no such misfortune in this life.

We always must keep positive energy because even if you think positive, even just thinking positive, if you can see your body, you will see each positive thinking will change the pattern of your aura, change your outlook, and change your energy inside. It becomes more overflowing and healthy. But if you think negative, just think anything negative or bad or miserable, and then your pattern changes immediately. Any psychic person can see this. That's why some people can read your mind because when you come in, they can see your aura.

They can see the pattern change in your energy counterpart of your body. Energy counterpart is the shape of energy which looks like the shape of your real organ. For example, your heart is like this. Suppose someone took your heart away, and that heart place is empty. But still it has the shape of your heart in it - something there. That is the energy counterpart of the heart. Sometimes this energy counterpart has problems, not the real heart; and so they have to fix it. So you are the best doctor for yourself if you think positive.

Make Use Of Our Inborn Advantage

Live a healthy life, and simple. Simple living and high thinking. Always think positive. Even just thinking, changes your pattern of living, changes your day, and changes your fortune. So always try to keep being positive. Then a lot of accidents, a lot of illness can be avoided. It's very difficult if you are a kind of doctor or nurse, or sometimes social worker to be positive all the time, because people will come to you with their sicknesses, their problems, their very low thinking and depressive energy. But for ordinary people, you can always keep up your positive energy. Always think that God is around you, masters from the ten directions are always protecting you. Because it is true. It is true.

We are not left alone in this world to do all things ourselves. We are always protected by angels, everyone of us, and always guarded by Master's spirit, even though we don't see them. Even if you don't believe in angels and spirit, you must believe there is a God who exists. Otherwise, we wouldn't exist. You know what I mean? We cannot run away from this God. So don't worry. Every problem will solve itself in time. Even if it doesn't, we live in this world for only a very short span, we can bear it. Okay? Because we have real hope in heaven which we'll go back to later. Each one of us will go back again sooner or later, when we leave this world. This is not really a real problem.

Most of the problems are our own making, because we think negative, we act negative, and we let the negative influence from people affect us. Sometimes if you go to see the doctor, they will tell you that some of the diseases are self-made. Not because you want the disease only, but you are run down in resistance. For example, like allergies. Sometimes you never get them. But only when you're run down, you are depressed, you are overworked, you are exhausted, then the allergies will come. You eat the same food everyday, have no allergies. But one day, you have them. It's because at that time, probably your resistance is very low. Your defense system broke down temporarily or something like that. Whereas if you think positively, the disease also will go quickly. Because sometimes the defense system is so run down already, it's like broken down, it's very difficult to fix it. At that time, then it's too bad. Either we live or we die.

So try to take care of your system and don't let it break down. Try to take care of your system by acting positive, thinking positive, talking positive. That is very simple. Even just thinking positive is already a tremendous help to you. Some people think if you think and you don't do it, then it's all right. But it's really not all right. When you think of killing someone, you actually also do it.

In India, there was a king who tried it. One day he came out and approached a man on the street. And he was thinking that he was going to kill that man. He was thinking only that. Then he asked that man to come up and to tell the king what he felt at that moment about the king. And he told him that he could speak honestly, because it was only an experiment. Also he should not be afraid that the king would kill him if he told his honest feelings. So the king encouraged the man to think, to tell him what he thought of the king when he first saw the king. Because at that time, the king was thinking he wanted to kill the man, the man said, "I just want to strangle you." Yes, exactly the same moment that the king wanted to kill him, the man also felt he wanted to come and strangle the king. Probably self-defense system.

Because the soul is omnipresent, the soul is part of God, it has the omnipresent quality. Therefore, if we think about someone, they know it; we talk about someone, they know it; whether they are present or not. That's why we should not talk badly, we should not talk bad about people behind their backs, we should not run down people behind their backs, we should not do anything bad behind someone's back; because they will know. Normally people say God knows, but that person will also know, even though you don't tell him. That's why many crimes, sometimes, they do them in the dark; but they will surface sooner or later. It's because of the omnipresent quality of the soul. Even if that person doesn't know, many invisible beings will know. The ghosts will know and sometimes the ghosts will tell.

Yeah, sometimes you read in the newspaper or see on the TV that ghosts manifest themselves occasionally and make trouble. It is because they have seen something, they know something that we don't know, we don't see. If they don't have the body, they have more intelligence, more freedom. When we have the body, we have also an advantage, that the body protects us from many of the negative effects and a lot of negative knowing. If we don't have this body, then we will know too much, know too much through the brain, like we will know who is going to kill us. That person thinks very bad about us and that person is going to do something bad. We will know too much all day long and then our mind will be bombarded with all kinds of negative seeing, feelings and knowing of the world. Even though our soul knows, but if our brain doesn't know, then we don't suffer so much. You understand? Yes, yes. Therefore, we have this body to protect us from this negative atmosphere of the world.

But nevertheless when we have this body, we also have the disadvantage of not knowing many things that the angels know and the other people who don't have the body know. So we have good and bad. But nevertheless, we can have both. We can make use of this physical body to shield ourselves from the negative influence. But we can also learn to leave it when we want to, through the process, the technique of meditation. We can go out of this physical prison and then learn something of the paranature quality, like we go to heaven, go to different dimensions to learn a higher wisdom. And then when we come back, we can make use of that to serve ourselves, our families, our nation and our world. Understand? So the people who don't have the body have less advantage than us. But only if we can make use of this life, make use of both the physical dimension and the beyond-physical dimension, then we have both advantages.

We are above the angels and better than all those disembodied spirits. We have more advantages. So try to take care of your life. Make use of your physical greatness. Even though the body is a very troublesome instrument, it is also excellent. Excellent. Actually when you practice very hard, sometimes you don't feel the body. Is that not so? You have this experience? Yeah, you feel very light, right? Yes. Like you are driving but it's not you who's driving, someone else. No effort. That's how we achieve the effortlessness in the physical dimension. Then we can do many things in a lighter way, and we don't feel so exhausted any more. The more we meditate, the better we feel, and the faster we work, and no problem.

And you must also try to pass on the news to our fellow beings to rescue them from their misery. Try to comfort them and bring them the good news that they could be lighter, greater, happier in their lives if they practice the age-old wisdom, getting in contact with the Kingdom of God within themselves, with the Buddha nature within themselves. Then they don't feel so miserable and worn-out, or blocked and feeling lonely in this world. That's the only cure for humanity. Otherwise, everyone will tell you that the end of the world is coming. (Laughter) But so what? Even if the end of the world comes, we have security. We already know where we are going so then we don't fear. We will have many other worlds to live on.

It looks like so many disasters are coming to the world, huh? But I don't feel like the world is going to end so quickly. Maybe it will end in some parts, maybe have a great destruction for different people. But the virtuous people, the blameless persons will be preserved for the next generation. And with the help of the positive energy from you during your meditation, during the group gatherings, during your silent prayer time, our world is preserved to a greater degree than we might have hoped for. And that's why I hope that you'll spread more good news to people. Adding more water into the pool so that many people can swim in it. Yeah?

Live A Fulfilling, Positive, Happy And Learning Life

Even if you have to sacrifice a little bit of personal taste or maybe your vegetarian wife cooks so lousy, but try to swallow it (laughter), for the sake of humanity. But the wife should improve the cooking, or maybe the husband. Why not? Why should the wife always be the one who cooks? You don't know men have more cooking talent than women. (Laughter) [Audience: Yes.] Yes, only they don't try. (Applause) I have eaten food from many men, they cooked very, very well; and you know all the biggest chefs in the biggest hotels are men, huh? Right? [Audience: Yes.] Very rarely we hear of a big women chef, right? So maybe men should have a try. Surprise your wife, and don't complain to me that 'my wife won't cook for me, so I cannot meditate'. (Laughter) It's nonsense. There is nothing we should say we cannot do. Is that not so? If it's a big thing, maybe you have an excuse. But cooking, washing, you try, you learn and have fun with it. Okay?

And we should make use of every minute of our life to live a fulfilling, positive, happy and learning life. There is nothing boring about this life, really. Nothing is boring. You try to look for books. There are many books you can read. Read anything that you like as long as it doesn't damage your spirit, doesn't pull you out of the righteous path, doesn't make you stray away from the righteous life, doesn't make you become evil. Then every book you can read. Newspapers, everything can give you information. You select what you read, of course, yeah? You can read anything to enhance your worldly knowledge. And then meditate to deepen your knowledge in heaven, so you have both knowledge in the world and knowledge in heaven. How can you get bored?

I sometimes don't have even enough time. Of course, I am busy doing spiritual work. But then I am also busy doing some charitable work. And then for that I am very busy. But still I have to make time. I read books and things like that. How can you get bored? There are so many things in this world you can amuse yourself with, I mean, intellectually. Also you can do sports if you need. Go swimming, or learn something. Make your life happy, healthy and very useful. There is no need to sit there and say, "My life is boring, my life is miserable." This is nonsense.

You do it to yourself. Is that right? [Audience: Yes.] Before I came here, I was reading, and I struggled for every minute. (Laughter) I kept reading and looking at the watch, because I wanted to read until the last minute before I came here. Of course, my duty I have to do. I have to fulfill my duty as a teacher, as a good friend. But I also make my life not miserable, by not only working. I also go swimming sometimes, if I have time. It doesn't take half an hour. Instead of sitting there idling and thinking something negative, you go swimming, yeah? Also good for your work, for example, or go walking, or take the children go out and play. Teach them to swim or teach them something that you like. Share with them your life and teach them to be intelligent. The children, you should not leave them to play with children. Children should learn with adults. That's how they grow up. And actually we should not have too many children if we can not individually take care of them. You should devote your life to children, one child at a time. You should always be there for them and with them. Then they will grow up very quick, become very intelligent, and become very useful persons in the society. Then they will save you a lot of headaches. They will be very good, very brave. So, of course, it's very tiring to play with children, but you will learn to play with them. And they will learn from you. You learn patience and love from them - unconditional love. And then they will learn from your wisdom, your intelligence, your way of life.

So make yourself a shining example by learning yourself. Read books, learn new hobbies, be healthy, sportive, live a simple life, be truthful, be virtuous. Then the children cannot help but grow up the same way as you are. So there are a lot of things to do in this world, really. Also hobby-wise. Don't come to me and tell me that you are bored, you are miserable. I don't accept this. You know I don't accept it. You should not be irritable. You should not be miserable. You should not be bored. There is no such thing in the practitioners' dictionary. Because you should be more intelligent, have more energy, and then you have more ideas. You should even be more active and more energetic. Is that not so? You don't feel better afterwards? [Audience: Yes.] So if any person comes to you and tells that they are miserable, you know they don't meditate either, for sure. And you can tell them, "Go and sit more and then you will feel better."

Meditate more and then outwardly we can be more social. Learn from each and everyone. Sometimes the questions you ask in your mind are answered by the neighbor or by the one who sits next to you. You have to feel. Sometimes you ask a question, and if you are not sure the Master has answered for you inside, you have to look for sometimes the answer outside. Sometimes suddenly you feel the person next door wants to talk to you. If it is so clear, then it is an indication that you should listen. And that is the answer for you. And sometimes you suddenly borrow a book, and then the answer is there. Or sometimes you listen to the tape, and then it just comes out that sentence for you. All right? If you can't be so intuitively clear about what the Master answers you inside, you try to look for answers outside. Okay? But it's all right if you make mistakes. It's okay. Don't do them again next time. Don't worry. All right?

Make Yourself A Shining Example

So I hope you enjoy the food. And then try to remember the taste also, and go home and cook the same for the husband, or wife, children. In that way they won't complain that the vegetarian diet is so difficult. If everyone eats the food like today, they would never complain. Is that not so? [Audience: Yes.] I told you already the time when I was still married to the German doctor, huh? All my neighbors came to eat vegetarian food. One day, my ex-husband felt sorry for the neighbors, that I was always cooking vegetarian. So that day, he bought some cold fish, already cooked, ready-made. He also bought some cold meat or something like that; and he put a lot there, a lot on one side. And I as usual cooked vegetarian food for both of us, the German doctor and myself.

But all the people came to the vegetarian side to eat. So all of us were hungry because I didn't cook enough. I only cooked for two. I believed that the German doctor was right, (laughter) and so I thought all the neighbors would come and eat all the food that he bought. So I only cooked a little bit for two. But everyone came to eat vegetarian food because it was so tasty. And they are engineers, lawyers, doctors, because we had similar neighbors. We lived in a very posh area, where only these kinds of rich people, so-called rich people live. They are not kind of average citizens; they are a little bit higher class. So even they said to me, "Wow, if vegetarian food is so good like this, we'd eat everyday." That's why they didn't want meat. I said, "Why don't you go and eat the fish and meat over there. The doctor bought it for you." They said, "No, we don't come for meat and fish. We have them everyday. We want your vegetarian food."

So from then on, I cooked only vegetarian food whenever I invited the neighbors. And when they invited me, they also cooked vegetarian food. So because we ate vegetarian food, all the neighbors became vegetarian. At least partially. And when I went to my in-laws, they also cooked vegetarian food for me, and gave me opportunities to try different dishes. They also thought they were very delicious.

So one person makes a lot of difference. If you truly believe in your goodness, in what you are doing, you will influence other people. But if you don't believe, they will influence you. They'll try to make a strong person out of your personality. Whatever you believe is good, stick to it and don't let other people make you waver, because the good example in this world is rare. So make yourself a good example. Try your best in everything so that people will know that because you practice, you become better. Then you really are being useful, being useful for society. That's how you prove. That's how you help other people. That's how we rescue the world from the great destruction that may be coming.

For what I see, I don't need to be a prophet. I don't need to cast prophecies. I don't need to be a clairvoyant to see the future. None of us have to be. We can see that our world can encounter great destruction because of a lot of self-destructive drugs and weapons, the way we live our lives, and the way we infect each other. It could be the end of the world. There is no doubt about it. Or we can see our neighbor, how we affect their life? How one person who has AIDS can affect hundreds of thousands of people just by contacting or by careless actions somewhere.

Just like in France, some doctor just gave a patient an infected blood transfusion. And hundreds of people caught this disease, innocently by doing nothing. Even though they were all careful, they didn't go anywhere, and they didn't do any bad things themselves, they just caught the disease. This is not fair. You know what I mean? So in that case it is terrible. And then those hundred people might spread out to a hundred more. And then hundreds become thousands, thousands become millions. Every year, millions of people die of all kinds of nonsense. So we don't need to ask the prophet whether the world will end. If we continue the life-style that most people live today, we might have to believe that the world will end. Understand?

So it's our duty to rescue people if we love this planet, if we think it's a beautiful place, which it is. Takes billions, trillions of years to make one until it is beautiful like today, so beautiful like this. So we have to also make a contribution. If we can, we fix it. Of course, after all, we've tried our best and still the end of the world comes, then let it be. But if we can fix it, we do it. All right? So spread the good news and let the people go back to the natural way of life, the righteous way of life, that is, being vegetarian, being virtuous, keeping the precepts, and living a simple life and positive thinking. Then our world will be no problem, and we will probably live a few more thousand years in a better condition.

There are two choices now - one is total destruction, another is go ahead with progress in all ways of life, including spiritual. And the future is in our hands, really. There are no aliens who can do anything about it. There is no God who punishes us. There is no Buddha who blesses us. It's only ourselves. We have to make a choice, because that's how we grow - by making good choices.

Year 2000 - The Dream

Actually, in the future, if we get over this year 2000 apocalypse crisis, we will be able to develop further in the future. And I can probably imagine that the people in the future after year 2000 won't have to work so hard. We will have a different system, a wiser system, and people will probably work for hobby only. And we probably won't need money. Everyone will produce what we have and then we share with each other. Will be better. But that is what I imagine. I hope it will come true. I think it might.

At the moment, we work a lot for nothing. We work a lot, we earn little, and waste a lot of our time which we could use for more intelligent practices. Because actually if a man has more time, he can contribute more also. In his relaxed time, he can produce, he can learn, he can train himself in another way of work, and he can use his intelligence for his hobby developing. And sometimes people put more energy in their hobby and then it produces better results.

I think everyone should work only half a day. That should be enough. And the other half day should be used for hobbies, whatever they like to develop or their own invention, their own research. Hobbies don't always mean useless speaking or football, or anything like that. Anything done voluntarily under their own will and intelligence is called a hobby. But a hobby can be very productive and helpful to society.
