The Truth about the World
Maitreya Buddha and The six Children

No.: 184

Essence of Lecture

Sometimes when we meditate, we perceive beautiful children leaving us one by one. They're our bad qualities. Don't think that you're perceiving immortal children and feel reluctant to leave them. Sometimes they'll apologize and then say, "Good-bye," or "Your place is too hot. I can't stand it! I have to leave." Then you'll know that they're ghosts. They look very beautiful and delicate. Sometimes when you hear children shouting or crying, it's them, too. There're about six of them. Do you remember the statue of Maitreya Buddha? There are six children playing on His body; one child pokes here and there and one pulls here and there. This represents an inner realm. This isn't fun, and doesn't mean that Maitreya Buddha likes children. No. No. If we don't have the Holy Names, we can't protect ourselves and we'll be contaminated by them.

Leading the World into a New Era

No.: 240
Date: April 10. 1992
Place: Hsihu, Formosa
Occasion: Group Meditation
Language: English
Subtitles: Aulacese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Bulgarian, Croatian, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Philippine, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, and Thai (22)

Essence of Lecture

Our life, our time here in this world is very short; we have to make the best use of it. Don't ask people to serve us; we have to ask how we can serve people. If we do it wholeheartedly, we will always feel fulfilled, satisfied. We provide for people, and God will provide for us; this is the way of working in the universe. We ought to be the forerunners, leaders of the world, leading the world into a new age with a new spirit of serving and loving each other. We have to show others how to be noble, how to sacrifice, and how to love. As long as we live, we must dedicate our whole to the goodness and progress of mankind, the whole world, and the whole universe. Our vision must be great, greater than life; must be so noble that we have nothing else to lose. We fear nothing in such greatness of a vision. Every obstacle becomes so small in such a vision.

Topics addressed:

How can we truly "love thy neighbour", and not just talk empty words?

What should be our vision of the world in order to make our world a paradise?

How can we live a meaningful life, and elevate ourselves to rise above an ordinary human being?

Why is it necessary to first perfect the small things in order to accomplish great things?

What is a "good person"? What kind of people would Master call"good people"?

Many ancient civilisations that were once very advanced and glorious, finally fell. What was the reason?

In the universal civilisation, many planets are progressing. Is our Earth also evolving in the same direction? Are the other planets friendly or hostile to us?

Living in a world surrounded with so much pressure, violence, bad influence and injustice, how can we keep our spirit balanced and peaceful?

Why do the Masters or enlightened saints find it too dangerous coming to this world?

Following a Master is to follow the Master's teachings; is it also necessary to mind the Master's appearance, fluency in speech, and number of disciples?

Essence of Lecture

Live Recordings of the Lecture and Q& A of Supreme Master Ching Hai at the United Nations

In 1992, The Supreme Master Ching Hai was invited to give a lecture at the United Nations in New York. The lecture, entitled "The Mystery of the World Beyond", received worldwide acclaim and has since been translated and published internationally. Many outstanding translators and technical professionals from all over the world voluntarily came together, and striving for perfection, they were able to breakthrough the language barrier in order to serve the Truth lovers of the world. With the grace of God, despite all difficulties, the publication was completed at the beginning of the 21st century. The result is unrivalled with 36 of the world's languages subtitled on one DVD. And even more extraordinary is the fact that a non-profit publisher of spiritual materials has achieved it. This feat shows the dawning of a new age that is moving away from an economic focus and towards spiritual leadership. Essence of Lecture

There are two levels in our existence. One is so--called ignorance; the other is enlightenment. And when we step through the border, we come into enlightenment. Enlightenment implies light. So when you sit in quietness through the help of an experienced teacher, you have light, you see light floating through you. Then you feel elevated, you feel changed. You enter into a different dimension. And once you enter there and are registered, you never come back again. You still work in the world, still do your business, fulfill your duty as a housewife, a husband, or member of United Nations personnel, but inside you contact a higher world. And it's not only light that we see; we see beautiful Heavenly mansions. Like Jesus said, "In my Father's house there are many mansions." We can visit, and sometimes see ancient Masters and learn from their wisdom in order to put it into use in our daily service to the world. That's why we work more effectively and with less effort, but more results. Because we're wider, we learn from the Masters. Because these Masters never die. They just ascend into a higher level of existence. If we ascend to their level, we'll meet them and we can learn from them. That's a better way than to learn from limited scriptures or Bibles, which we sometimes don't understand the meanings of anyhow.

Essence of Lecture

Looking into one's past record is a very terrible journey. Like today, I had to look into someone's record, and sometimes that someone involves many others. It's not easy to look into someone's record and then see no one else involved around him. And this brings you into many other connections and each one offers you whole a lot of troublesome past lives, and sometimes it's not very good for you when you're looking, not when you wake up. When you wake up, of course because of our power of practicing the Quan Yin Method, we can probably immediately erase the depressed feeling or any kind of negative feeling that results from the past life effects. Sometimes the past life is very gruesome, awful and full of depression and suffering. Because we're connected with each other in this past history, and whatever happens to one affects the others as well. Past decades, past generations and past eras of our earth's history are mostly very dark. And if we're earth inhabitants we have gone through all these kinds of events, which are very difficult for us to forget. And should we be able to remember them, it will give us such tremendous suffering and depression that we don't even want to know about it. That's why it's a blessing from the highest intelligence that we don't remember our past lives.

Topics addressed:

In many lifetimes, we've done many things and created many causes and effects. Usually we repeat the same relationships and re-incarnate to do the same things. If we can see our previous lives or those of others, we'll see that the same old pattern repeats itself again and again. That's what we call karma. We have to rely on meditation and our sincerity and use the power of our souls to break the negative cycle of re-incarnation. This is so-called "liberation in one lifetime," which is the promise of initiation, and the only way to break out of the cycle of re-incarnation.

Sometimes when we go back to our previous lives and know what we've done or what was wrong with us, it might help to heal our diseases. It might help to overcome the obstacles in our psychic being but it won't heal the soul. The soul is never sick and has no past, present or future. In fact, such healing is only useful to our minds, bodies and psychic beings. But this isn't the highest form of healing.

Unenlightened people don't know why they force themselves to earn money or grab high positions, even destroying their health and lives. The enlightened people still live in society and do their best to take care of their families and countries. But they feel no interest in "gain and loss" and no interest in fighting for fame, personal benefit and profit. At that time, they don't have egos anymore and can really contribute positively to the world.

Master truly loves us whether it's in scolding or smiling at us. They both emanate from love.

The power of scolding is stronger than that of love! And the power of Master's scolding is great. Since all the power is concentrated on the person scolded, he'll change very fast, but it's very tiring for Master.

Being a Master is not very easy. It's hard to explain but Master is definitely always right. This is Master's experience and the experience of many people around Her. A true living Master will never make mistakes.

Master talks about the beginning of Her pursuit of painting, clothing design and musical composition to illustrate that we have many inner talents. Only when it is needed or we are under pressure will we know how much we gain from daily meditation and how much wisdom we have.

Anyone who comes to me already has the connection. We have to take care of you and protect you until you come here. So, before you come and receive initiation, the angels have to protect you; after initiation, there's more protection until you die. The protection also continues after you die. Death means that the physical body dies but it's not real death. We never die and I'll watch you until you go Home.

If we practice well, we'll be beautiful inside. No matter what we wear, we'll be beautiful.

We don't need to worry about where we live, what we do and what's happening to us. We should always remember that we have Heaven inside. It won't ever disappear. Once we forget, we should try to remember and focus inwardly. Then we'll feel very peaceful and comfortable. No one can take this away from us. This is the real Heaven. We should bring Heaven with us. If we keep Heaven in our hearts, we can bring it with us anywhere and we won't lose it. We can have Heaven with us forever and also help those with no Heaven.

Master reminds everyone to clean up his country when he goes home, to go pick up garbage once a month, try to be humble and do good things, to take better care of those in need and help those who are really poor. Master says, "I want the world to be happy and everyone to be equal. The rich will give to the poor. It will make everyone happy and joyful. The givers will feel happy, too." Remember what Master says-we should take care of ourselves and also take care of the refugees and the poor.

Essence of Lecture

Do you know why even an enlightened Master has to fight the habits of many lifetimes stored in Her genes while living in the physical world? How do we recall our Heavenly memories and remember our mission in life? God is almighty, but why does Hes not always answer our prayers? How does the ego benefit our mission in this world? How are Quan Yin practitioners different than devas or celestial beings? How do violent films affect our children? In this DVD, Master reveals Her profound wisdom by providing incisive answers to these questions.

The Suffering of This World
Comes from Our Ignorance

No.: 467

Essence of Lecture

The suffering of this world is not caused entirely by wars. It is not caused by wars or disasters, famines or things like that. The suffering of this world actually comes from ignorance! Because we are not aware of our mission and purpose of coming to this world, we mistake this playground as our home, and thus have no wish to go home even when time is up. Very often, we even have to suffer hunger, cold, and danger outside. Even then, the Buddha, the almighty God still try to look for children like us, who got lost because indulged in playing and forgot to go home. Therefore, sometimes the Buddha will descend, enduring the suffering of human life, enduring the humility of this lowly material living, just to search for the lost children, and bring them back to a safe place in time.
Every day, we must receive message that is good, positive, constructive, enlightening and wise, and then our mind will direct our body cells and nervous system to work accordingly. Then, the things we do will naturally be good, peaceful, wise, constructive and positive. This is how we can save the world.

Why would people forget their purpose of coming to this world?

Why are all the sufferings and wars originated from human ignorance?

Essence of Lecture

Only when we are sincere, will God bring us to the path that is suitable for us. After we have found that path we must be careful not to seek blessings from any other source, since they will lower our spiritual level. The Quan Yin meditation is the highest and best and through Master's guidance we can advance ourselves, by not struggling and by being patient. When we die, we will know at that time, what initiation means.

Although our Master makes a great effort and provides us with everything necessary when we come for group meditation and initiation, there are unfortunately some ignorant people who do not appreciate this.

All of the religions originated from the same Quan Yin Method. Each retained some small external symbols to use for identification within each religion. These external symbols have become the essence of these religions and the "real" meaning of the Quan Yin Method has been lost. This Method has been taught by other "Masters", who have had to be careful, because even though today they would not be killed, as Jesus was, they are often misunderstood. Therefore, they are often subjected to unfair criticism, rejection and lies.

We must take advantage of this rare opportunity to be initiated into the Quan Yin Method. If we waste it we could transmigrate forever and have eternal suffering.

Topics addressed:

How can a person's sincere yearning for God, bring that person to the correct path?

How can we protect ourselves if our life work requires us to be physical with non- initiates?

Why must we repeat the five names during the light meditation?

As we progress with our meditation, our questions become fewer.

Why do some people seek out Master, but are so burdened with karma that their hearts are hardened and they cause Her much suffering?

Why do our souls feel comforted when we hear music from the instruments that were made from the Masters of long ago?

Why do practitioners of the Quan Yin meditation, both from ancient times and present time, have to be careful about showing their belief outwardly?

Why is the "Master Power" so hard for some people to understand?

The opportunity to become a Quan Yin practitioner is very rare, yet some people reject it.

Essence of Lecture

How can we stay in the present complex society to benefit people as much as possible, while still preserving our purity of heart? To elaborate on this point, Supreme Master Ching Hai tells a story about a prime minister in ancient China named Guan Zhong. For his people and country, Guan Zhong sacrificed his reputation. He worked with "good" people and was also able to get along with "bad" people. He had great insight about what was going on around him, yet never got entangled in the judgments of others. While coping well with his complicated and corrupt political circle, he remained uncontaminated. On a similar note, Master has told us, "We spiritual practitioners do not take our reputations very seriously. We don't care if people judge us as being good or bad; we simply act according to the situation. So just don't become carried away by worldly pleasures like sex, food, drink, games or ephemeral illusions. As long as we remain sober, everything is fine."

Guaz-Zhong was a spiritual practitioner. If he weren't, he couldn't have preserved his integrity in the corrupt political circle of his time. How do we know of his integrity? We do because he was a good manager, a good administrator of the country. How could a drunkard have done that? From this we know whatever worldly pleasures he enjoyed with the king were just in pretense. He knew very well what he was doing. The whole court and the king were drunk and giddy. He was the only one in charge. You get to know that by reading history. Those beloved by the king were all corrupt officals. Guan-Zhong was well aware of this, but he worldn't drive them away. At least they kept the king busy. With several people playing with him, the king would not pet in Guan-Zhong's way. And Guan-Zhong would have more time to handle national affairs, and matters concerning world peace. He was a remarkable man. No one could sacrifice everything like he did, except enlightened practitioners or those with noble ideals. He even sacrificed his own reputation. Few people respected him at the time, thinking he was just like the king. Of course, no one world. This freed him from jealousy and brought him success in whatever he did...

Not: In the Epoch of Chun Chiu (685 B.C.), the famous politician Guan-Zhong, the prime minister of the state of Chi in China, assisted the king of prosperous that it was the first to dominate all the neighboring Chinese states at the time.

Essence of Lecture

Will power is very important to getting ahead in any field, and if you belittle yourself by giving in to anything, by giving up your high standards in exchange for some physical comfort when you can do otherwise, then you just harm yourself, and that's what I call detrimental.

We want to keep ourselves absolutely in control, like you control your situation. If you control what you eat, you eat what you want and not what is forced upon you by any circumstances, then you keep your own power. That's it. And nothing can shake you then because you do what you want, under any circumstances. That's what it is.

If we can keep anything, it should be to keep our level of consciousness, keep our standards; otherwise, you can do anything you want. The precepts and the rules are not for you to keep; actually they are for you to realize whether you are up to that standard or not. And if you give up you'll sink down and that's already detrimental. What else can you ask? Because you're lowering your standards already.

When we are in contact with negative forces, can we just respect them and ignore them. I am a doctor, and sometimes I may have to use acupuncture¡K

Master said that we should have the character to practice at the positive force center, to concentrate so that the negative force can come up there, in order to have balance. If I made the progress, does that mean more karma will come? And how can I do?

Well, it's easy to understand that being kind and loving and compassionate and loving beauty are pure. But I don't understand how the Sound can purify me?

Does purity set up a certain vibrational frequency in the structure of the physical body and then you have the Sound waves coming in and they vibrate at a different frequency, and do they alter the frequency of the structure of the body somehow make it more refined?

Master, can you tell me how to fight the temptations of Maya because inside of you, you want to go up to a high level but the more you try that, the more they try to tempt you, and if you're not strong enough they will pull you down.

I have a problem now that in my spiritual effort, I also tend to lack enthusiasm as well, and this can create a problem sometimes. So I just want your comments and advice about enthusiasm and whether we really need it to make it.

My question is concerning my family. I have a wife and daughter who I love very much. Sometimes I think if I were ever to die and leave this world before they would that i would find it very difficult to leave them. Is this going to hold me back from progress or...

Spiritual Life and Professional Ethics

No.: 604

Place: Washington, D.C., U.S.A.
Occasion: International 4-Day Retreat
Language: English
Subtitles: Chinese-T

Essence of Lecture

Master reminds disciples of the concepts to be embraced and guidelines to be followed on the spiritual path, emphasizing that spiritual attainment is the only worthy goal and the top priority of human existence. It is not enough to simply pray daily for material comfort or smooth solutions to our problems; we must also practice until we are one with God and know that we are God. Paying excessive attention to material possessions is not only onerous, but also lowers our spiritual level and greatly hampers our progress in meditation. In addition, over-eating makes our meditation unstable; being eighty percent full is enough; only then will the next meal be more delicious. And we must fulfill our family obligations before we can make spiritual progress.

The Purpose of Enlightement

Essence of Lecture

We can become very confused having so many teachings in the whole planet, and more in the astral level. And in the upper level there are also all the teachings. If you go and encounter some of the devas and Heavenly beings, they'll teach you something else. So we have to know the basics, why we want to be enlightened, why we have to be nobler, and more God-like because the other half of God is higher consciousness, is nobler and wiser. And it's the other half of us that we're missing. We have to attain that other half in order to be whole, to be wholesome, to be total, to be what we truly are. And that's the purpose of enlightenment, of being more moderate in our way of life, being modest, being humble, being noble and walking in the way of beauty, the way of glory and the way of Truth.

Topics addressed:

If we're all God and everything comes from God including all good and evil, why do we have to be vegetarian, keep the precepts, practice and follow Master's teachings?

As human beings, we have the opportunity to climb to a higher level of God consciousness. That's why we don't want to exercise our free will to do anything absolutely the way we want; otherwise we'll stay here in a lower level of the scale of God consciousness.

Why did Master change from Her nun's clothes to normal outfits? To this question, Master replies, "There's nothing you should do except meditate every day wherever you are. It's OK if you want to be a nun, but you don't have to change now. If you're already a nun, stay there. If you aren't, just stay there. It's more convenient to practice as what you are. But a renounced life is not for everyone. To renounce in the heart is more difficult, and to renounce outside is secondary. We should renounce inside."

If your family is deeply religious, how do you communicate with them?

Why doesn't God appear to us in any specific form?

How does the eating of eggs negatively effect spiritual practice?

Jesus didn't eat fish. He talked in a parable. Master explains the background of Jesus' era and His true teachings.

Master suggests that disciples stay away from jobs related to energy healing, Reiki, past lives, etc. because they involve using ego, human energy, and astral energy and these are not the natural power of God. The natural power of God is like this: You don't do anything and people get healed.

After we become vegetarian our bodies are regulated and we don't eat so much. It's a kind of fasting. Fasting won't enhance one's meditation level or degree so don't do anything extreme. We can do that sometimes to purify our bodies or lessen the desire or lust within our bodies once in a while if we want to. But you have to take care of your health and do it properly.

We all have bad habits, but that's not our real Self. You can try to cut out whatever bad habits you have. If you can't, then just forgive yourself and concentrate on the more positive side of your own qualities. Don't think of the negative all the time.

Is it better to remain single or be married? To this question, Master replies, "If you have a companion, it's OK, and if you don't, it's OK. Whichever way you prefer, whichever way you think simplifies your life and is better for you to practice, choose that way."

What has been the spiritual impact on human beings since Master began giving lectures around the world?

After you meditate for twenty or thirty minutes the chaos will calm down and dissipate, and you'll feel more peaceful. And as the days go by, there will be less and less quarrelling, and less and less negative memories, and then your mind will have nothing to remember but good things. And then it has the food from spiritual nourishment, and of course you'll become more and more calm. That's why we meditate every day. The main point is that we meditate, get better memories every day, and then all the negativity goes away.

How can a lawyer maintain inner peace and a clear conscience? Master gives a complete and inspirational answer to this question. When we work so hard to maintain material comforts, we should still keep a clear conscience and noble ideals.

"I always think of work when I meditate. What should I do?" To this question Master responds, "Whatever we do before meditation will go into our meditation for a while. And after twenty or thirty minutes, it will calm down. Sometimes it doesn't, and you have to try another time and try more. Try more Quan Yin, the Sound method."

Essence of Lecture

Each soul selects his own path to walk to God, with different levels of passion and with different timing. We who are here, those who are more experienced, who walk in advance, are ready, like the angels or the Masters of the universe who are ready to assist any soul. Should he or she wish to make a different choice at any time in his life, just like in a film, somedbody has to be a murderer, somebody has to be a detective, somebody has to be a victim, and sombebody has to be a hero, So it's the choice we made before we came here. Nothing is unforgivable even though it seems unforgivable...But in etemity, in the game of the universe, everyone chooses different ways to walk back home. Sometimes it takes a long time. They like to take the long way. Some people take a short cut, like we do. So God knows everything. God forgives everything. It's just that we cannot forgive ourselves, so we shoulg never make a lowly choice so that we regret it afferwards. Therefore, the Master and the brothers stand by all the time to assist us in re-choosing. We always make a new choice. And depending on your choices, new events happen, and new directions open up. And then you go into a different dimension.

Essence of Lecture

In whatever situation, we have to check only ourselves: What are we going to do with this situation? What are we going to be? What do we want to show? Which part of goodness do we want to present to our partner or to the world? It is not that the other partner has to present us anything! Whatever he or she wants to present, that's their problem. Our problem is just us; it's always us. But most people, when they are married or when they have a partner or friendship, they pay all their attention to the other part, the other half, and check it out: "Oh, he did it wrong." "She did it badly." "Oh, she's no good." "He's not nice." We forget that we have to check ourselves. We are the ones who are important. Any relationship, any situation, is for us to learn, not for the other person. The other person is only a catalyst. It is an excuse for us to exercise our power, our imagination about ourselves¡K."

Essence of Lecture

Spirituality has two aspects: one is theory, and the other is practice. The theoretical aspect is what introduces us to God, Heaven, bliss, everlasting life and "seeing God while living." For example, it's just like I am doing now: introducing the apple. And the practical aspect of spirituality is the apple itself -- it's when you eat it! ¡KThat is, the things that we have been introduced to, we must know -- we must taste¡KSo in the beginning, when we first know God, He might appear to us as light; He might speak to us through human languages or as intuition in our mind. But later on, He will raise us higher and higher until we become one with Him. And that's when we can declare, "I and my Father are One," the way our Lord Jesus reached God...

In 1999, when Kosovo was a war-torn inferno, Supreme Master Ching Hai braved formidable hardships and dangers to disseminate the gospel of divine love and Truth upon initiates' invitation to visit the capitals of eighteen European countries. And on the final stop of Her mission, while She was delivering a lecture in London, a peace treaty was signed in Kosovo, providing a perfect ending to Her lecture tour. In this brilliant discourse, Master addresses the nature of the divine realm, the means by which human beings can see God, the speed of intergalactic travel in ancient civilizations and why these superior cultures have disappeared, the relationship between science and spirituality and the question of free will. She also answers these questions: Why is the manifestation form of an enlightened Master equal to the manifestation of the highest God? And what is the difference between karmic hindrance and destiny?

Essence of Lecture

If you have not found the direct contact with God's kingdom, I have learned a way, and I could share it with you without any obligation, without any cost, without any strings at all. You are always welcome to try.

We contact directly with this Word, like it says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." And this is the Word that the prophets contacted with and we can hear it too.

We're always in God! But in order to see God, we have to forsake everything. I mean in spirit, not like you leave family, or not like you give your possessions to me. No, no you have to really disconnect yourself, your inside soul from this physical world, then you can see God.

Every day, every minute, every second, we should always look upon God only. God is the only source of our strength and wisdom.

Essence of Lecture

Sometimes, people who are spiritual, if they choose to be successful also in this life, they can also be successful. Different masters have chosen different ways to demonstrate the love of God. Some masters have chosen the way of complete renunciation like Jesus, like Buddha, but some masters have chosen to make use of the gift of God... or God has ordained them to do this.

It depends on God's will whether you should be, how say, very rich materially as well as spiritually in this life. Or you're just be rich materially and not spiritually. Everyone has walked different path, but we are walking to home, towards God's dimension, and this is what we are here for. In case you ask me what's the purpose of human being, that's what it is.

Essence of Lecture

In order to experience physical existence as we do now, we, as God before, when we were in Heaven, and one with God, as God, have created time and space in this planet, in this physical existence, so that we can experience separation from God, so that we can reunite with God again and enjoy bliss again. That's how it goes on for eternity. We forever create new dimensions, new experiences, so that we can remember God again as God and as a creation of God. So when we are in this dimension there is time and space, and that's how things take time to manifest, take space to materialize. In Heaven, everything is together. Everything is together in one time and on space. There's no separation ever.

Everything is separated by time and space. It is because our creative minds have wanted it that way. Now we have forgotten that we created it. We have forgotten. Never mind. You will remember if you practice the Quan Yin Method of meditation. You will remember everything - who you are, why things happen to you, what you have created, why it comes to you...

Essence of Lecture

You are Okay, really. God Loves you so much and you love yourself so much. You will realise that everything is all right. The only problem with us, the only thing that is not all right with us is that, we have to integrate with a lot of people and we are influenced by them. We try to think their way, we try to do it their ways, we try to accept their opinions about us-right or wrong, good or bad. And that's when we lost touch with ourselves and reject our own true self and that's when we don't know we are perfect. We get confused in all that is happening in this life. But you will realise it and you will love yourself more and you'll love yourself the best, and then you can love everybody else, too.

To Be Enlightened

No.: 671
Date: November 21, 1999
Place: Tel Aviv, Israel
Occasion: Lecture
Language: English
Subtitles: Aulacese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English and Indonesian.

Essence of Lecture

We are with God all the time, throughout eternity. We enjoy bliss, heaven, always happy, we have everything. And we take it for granted,
because nothing else to compare. No suffering to understand bliss, no sadness to appreciate pleasure. No hardship to understand the ever-ready blessing and all the comfort that God gives to us. So God sent us here to learn again, to enjoy heaven again. So that when we go back there, we'll enjoy. We'll understand both sides of nature. That's what it is. So if we do not find God in our life to balance this, or to return to Hirm, we will suffer a lot. Because this is not our life, this is not our house. The physical dimension is just a temporarily experience, so that when we return to heaven, we enjoy God more, enjoy heaven more.

Essence of Lecture

Doesn't matter in spiritual or worldly work, smile is always a key to success. When you smile you convince yourself that you are happy. You could infect people with your depressing mood. No matter how hard you work, always try to smile; because if you cry or if you frown, it's still the same.

When you are happy, things go smooth. When you calm your mind, you know exactly what to do in any situation, or know the alternatives. Only when we are tense, when we are stressed out, then we could not take care of our daily affair and daily needs. Otherwise, when we're happy, everything is smooth.

Master emphasizes that not a single Quan Yin practitioner on this planet can fail to see the inner Light so fellow initiates should never give up on meditation. Even if you don't see the Light today, you may see It tomorrow. She also discusses how to distinguish between true and illusory spiritual experiences, and how to achieve a balance between our free will and God¡¦s will. Finally, Master gives a penetrating exposition on the profound effects and benefits of "positive thinking" with respect to spiritual practice and daily life.

When other fellow practitioners gives us advice in Master's name, must we listen blindly? Or shall we use our wisdom to differentiate?

Love must come naturally, but why we can first try the method of "pretending that we have love"?

What is the secret of making everything goes smooth?

Why should we be always grateful in our hearts?

Essence of Lecture

You are really fine, as long as you follow the instructions at the initiation and meditate every day to nurture your soul, that is all you need to do, nothing else is important! These bad habits are all the outside appearance, it is not your Self! You never have other qualities except purity, beauty and light, and that is your Self that you should realize! One day you will understand you are truly perfect. Even if you have done wrong, completely wrong, but only that thing is wrong. And probably that mistake has to happen so that other things may occur. Sometimes you have to go through some so-called wrong situations in order to meet the right person or thing. It is truly so! Therefore surrender yourself to God, and do as you can. Do not blame yourself, do not have bad ideas about yourself, because you are God.

You should know that you are beautiful, one day you will know you are perfect, just as what I have done, so I am proud of it. No matter if you like me or not, no matter if you have negative ideas about me or not, I still like myself. I cannot believe that I am not perfect. I don't care how many thousand people think I am not perfect, I truly think I am perfect. Not only I think, but I truly know! This is liberation!

Essence of Lecture

Supreme Master Ching Hai lovingly explains to Her attentive initiates the concept of entering a different dimension of existence. Many spiritual practitioners experience the separation of the body from all feelings, often called "emptiness of existence". Master deals with this concept daily and maintains a state of duality, so that She can be in this world, while being in other dimensions. After initiation, and with good meditation practice, many practitioners can have a heavenly existence and a human existence, at the same time. This is called a "state of perfection".
Only through meditation can we connect with God and with our "Inner Master". As we progress, we can lose our ego and thus become one with all things. Our life then becomes better and better, and we become more loving, tolerant, wiser, and understanding.
Often Master must scold some practitioners in order to lift off their heavy, bad karma. She bears this burden and personal suffering because of Her love for us. She promises to liberate us after death, even if we were not the best practitioners, as long as our intentions were pure and we desired to be unattached from this world.

Why must we be selfless?

Love Is the True Essence of Life

No.: 688
Date: April 30, 2000
Place: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Occasion: Lecture
Language: English
Subtitles: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese

Essence of Lectur

The essence of life is love. The essence of God, of Buddha, of Allah, is love. There's nothing else but love. When we make the choice of love, that is the highest choice, the noblest choice, which is our true self; we will feel that we are very near to God, very near to Buddha. There are many choices we can make in life, and depends on what choice we make, we will become that being that represents the choice. Over the time, again and again, we keep making different choices, to be human beings, to be angels, to be devas, to be one with God, or yet again, come back to human life in order to remember again, or relearn again, the whole process. And when we remember, when we relearn again that we are from God, that we have Buddha nature, that we have the Holy Spirit that lives within ourselves, at that time we say that we are enlightened.

Topics addressed:

Why people usually choose to forget their Buddha Nature within and that they are God themselves?

Why doesn't the omnipotent God create a perfect world so that all human beings could live in heaven?

Where do we come from before birth, and where do we go after death? Will we bring our subconscious along when we die?

What is our purpose of coming to live in this world? Why is there such a great difference in the destiny of each human?

Must one keep to one definite posture while meditating?

Why did Jesus Christ heal people with miracles? Is it proper for spiritual practitioners to heal people with miracle power?

Would the aborted babies benefit when we pray for them?

Can homosexual people also be enlightened, and develop spiritually?

How can one concentrate better in meditation?

What is the difference in the benefit derived from practicing the Convenient Method over receiving the initiation?

Enlightenment and Ignorance

No.: 689
Date: May 1, 2000
Place: Kathmandu, Nepal
Occasion: Public lecture
Language: English
Subtitles: English, Chinese, Chinese-s

Essence of Lecture

Actually, we are already the love, we are already the warmth, we are already the wisdom. It is just that we forget; some of us forget! The people who remember their own self, God Nature, Buddha Nature, we call them "enlightened beings". And the ones who do not remember their own original nature, we call them "not yet enlightened Buddhas". They both are Buddhas!

Really there is no difference between enlightened and not enlightened. The only difference is the attention. Pay attention to this body, pay attention to this physical surrounding, pay attention to everything that is in this material world, then we are material beings in the material world. Pay attention to the inward nature of ourselves, pay attention to the Buddha Nature that is always within us, inborn, and never die, then we become Buddhas. This is the only difference.

Topics addressed:

In the world, all the people in power, the rich and famous, are they really happy and contented within?

For an enlightened person, what is the proper attitude towards wealth and poverty?

How can we get rid of sorrow and depression, and live a happy and contented life?

Does one need to suffer for his misdeeds before enlightenment?

How can we realise our mission of coming to this world?

Approaching the year 2000, why are there so many rumours about the end of the world? Do you know what is the power that neutralises this negative energy?

What is Master's profound meaning when She said that it is better to get enlightenment than to die physically and run away from problem?

Why is it better to choose a present living Master whom we have more affinity with, than to pursue spiritual practice by relying on a past Master?

Listening Inwardly to Our Self-Nature

No.: 692

Essence of Lecture

As the Buddhist doctrines say, "Put down the butcher's knife, and become a Buddha immediately." This does not mean that we have to wait until we put down the butcher's knife to become a Buddha. No! We only need to turn within and "listen inwardly to our self-nature", then we will immediately behold our Buddha Nature.

We have read many scriptures and heard about "listening inwardly to our self-nature", but we do not know how and why. Why don't we say "look inwardly", or "touch inwardly", or "feel inwardly," instead of "listen inwardly"? It is because we really can hear It! We do not listen with our ears, but with our hearts; we can really hear our self-nature! Why do we say "listen"? It is because there is music; there are Buddha's teachings; there is inner heavenly music¡Kthat sends our souls soaring and elevates us happily to the Buddha's Land. Therefore, the Buddha said that we must "listen inwardly to our self-nature".

How can we bring greater harmony into our marriage?

Can homosexuals also practice spiritually to become Buddhas?

Essence of Lecture

Everything in this physical world requires concentration if we want to be successful. But in order to be eternally happy and peaceful, we need to focus our concentration on attaining higher dimensions, to learn to live a more noble life and attain the higher wisdom of the universe. Then we can become a complete being. Not only will we be successful in this world, but we will also become a saint, a Buddha, who can bless the world and the universe. With just a little concentration, people can be very successful in this mundane life already. So if we give greater and deeper concentration in the right way, we will be successful even in heaven.

Subtitles : Chinese-S, Chinese-T, Aulacese, Bulgarian, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Nepali, Norwegian, Philippine, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovene, Spanish, Swedish and Thai. (23)

Essence of Lecture

The lecture in Seoul was Supreme Master Ching Hai's last stop on Her Ocean of Love Tour. Approximately nine thousand people attended the Lecture. Supreme Master, as a visitor to Korea, was deeply touched by the honor of speaking in the country, and rejoiced that there were so many eager Korean Truth seekers in attendance at the lecture, which took away all Her fatigue from the Tour.
What inspiration and direction does an enlightened Saint brings to our lives? The following are some important topics from the Lecture.

Topics addressed:

Everybody wishes for inner peace and world peace. However, not everyone can enter the state of tranquillity. That is why there are so many problems, agonies, and misunderstandings in this world. To deal with these challenges, what is the only way?
This ephemeral world is just like a mirror image of the moon in water. Let us see how Master shows us how to analyze and look upon our real nature in such an illusionary realm.
Master says, no matter how worn out and deficient the world may be, we do not have to worry. Why?
Do you know that the manifestations of our inner world, including animals, plants and minerals, can communicate with you? How do we communicate back?
Sincerity and eagerness in pursuing the Truth are the only keys to opening our almighty power, yet how do we keep them up?
What is the nature of our livelihood after enlightenment, ordinary or extraordinary?
How should we pray to God and Buddha? Most importantly, how do we listen to the answers to our prayers?
Even after enlightenment, we are often immersed in mundane affairs and forget our true nature. How do we maintain our state of enlightenment?

Occasion: International 6-Day Retreat
Language: English

Subtitles : Aulacese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Philippine, Spanish, and Thai. (13)

Essence of Lecture

When you meditate, that is the time you reserve for God. Most people cannot remember God all day long. That is why I say we have to meditate two and a half hours each day; reserve one-tenth of our time to remember ourselves. And that one-tenth is not a work or obligation; it is our food. Just like we eat food to sustain the body. This two-and-a-half-hour meditation on God will make us a better person, more intelligent and happier. That is not just for God; it is for us! We need it to survive in this world in a better way. If we do not remember God, we are doomed with troubles, sorrow, misery, and all kinds of things that happen to us.

Topics addressed:

What are the two types of karma, and would they still affect us after we have been initiated by Master and embarked on spiritual practice?
Can we use medicated alcohol to treat rheumatism on fellow initiates?
After initiated by a living Master, do we still have to cling to past Masters?
Why is it that the more we practice spiritually, the less questions we have?
How do we distinguish, when past Masters from other planets appear to us during meditation in different forms?
The mind often interferes with us, causing us trouble and frustration. What can we do to minimize this problem?
In face of problems, why should we meditate more to obtain a clearer answer?
When we have a strong desire to spread Master's teachings, should we put it into action?
Is it possible to see the Inner Master when one is still in the first level? What is the fastest way to see the Inner Master? Does the Inner Master have a definite form?
How to avoid being judgmental when we observe?

To Impart the Great Teaching

Language: English

Subtitles: Aulacese, Bulgarian, Chinese, Chinese-simple, Czech, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Philippine, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai (22)

Essence of Lecture

Each one of us is an individual and even though we follow Supreme Master Ching Hai, we must learn to live our own lives and not be just a copy of Her. Each person must develop his or her own ability to know what is good or right. We follow Master's teachings so that we can obtain our own individual wisdom. After initiation, we should not speak outwardly of our experiences, because they are so pure and are from God; and because of this, the negative forces are instantly attracted and can influence us. This world is a reflection of God's creation, but it is the world of Maya. Therefore, the "True Masters", of which there have only been a few through the ages, have suffered very much.

We should always be grateful for whatever we have, keep positive and happy thoughts, don't dwell on physical problems, and avoid any environment that is negative. We must be aware that out minds often trick us and when we make mistakes or do wrong things, we are not bad and should not hate ourselves. We must remember that the mind is illusion and our "real self" is perfect, loving, kind, wise and forever lasting.

Topics addressed:

How can we develop our own wisdom from following Master's teachings, yet not be a copy of Her actions?

Since most of the outside world does not understand our practice, we must keep silent about it, especially with religious people.

It would be hard to find a permanent place for Master and our disciples to live and meditate because of the misunderstandings of the outside world.

Why must we always keep focused on positive, happy, good thoughts and always be grateful and contented; and not yearn to control or posses external things?

How can we learn to control our minds in order to avoid mistakes, while also forgiving ourselves when we do make mistakes?

We can all try, in our individual ways, to make the world aware of a better way of living and cause less negativity to our planet.

Waking Up from the Dream

No.: 705

Essence of Lecture

Q: Is a human being's fate already fixed in this lifetime? Can it not be changed later? A: Fixed karma, that's what it is. But the future you can change. By being initiated, by meditating, you change everything else. For example, in your fixed karma it is written that you have to have an accident at the age of thirty-five, and you have to die, or you have to cut your leg at thirty-five years of age. You can change that after initiation. You can meditate and change it because you can go into a higher realm, see where it is wrong, and fix it. And when you come back, you have an accident only in a dream. You wake up, and maybe your leg feels hurt, or maybe that day you feel like you don't have the leg, but then it's normal again. Yes. That's how we change, but not change. Because life is also a dream anyway, so the Master makes a big dream become a small dream, or a small dream become big dream. The Master Power uses an illusionary dream to change your illusionary karma. Yes, it's possible! The Master Power can do anything but violate the law--change, but not change.

Topics addressed:

Most Asian countries practice the custom of ancestor worship. How should Quan Yin Practitioners view this tradition?

What is the vital key to seeing the Light in meditation?

What is Master's opinion on human cloning?

After the demise of the enlightened Master, will half-initiated children still be under Her care and guidance?

On this DVD, Master states that She wrote many of Her poems before embarking on the spiritual path and later recited them. Subsequently, the recitations were broadcast on radio and received a warm response.

Essence of Lecture

Many times we put things off until tomorrow, all the while knowing that this world is just a transient hotel, is even worse than the hotel where I stay. In the hotel where I stay, I pay some money and they leave me in peace. They even clean my room, change my towels, and give me soap and everything I need. But in this hotel that we call "life" we have to work and pay every day, and even if we pay we still have to suffer. We pay every day with our precious time, our precious energy, our precious knowledgs, our precious short existence here on this planet, which we should use to recognize our great power, in order to tackle everything with ease and without effort.
So if you ask me, I advise you to find another hotel. I know one! I know many hotels. In our Father's Home there are many mansions...
There's nothing in this world that we can compare to what we have up there. If we only know how glorious our true Home is, we want to die right away! Excuse me for the expression. That's what it is. Many of the people who visit the other world, Heaven, our true Home, would not like to come back here, for a second...

Essence of Lecture

If you want to buy a pet, if you want to rescue one, or if someone gives one to you, you have to know in advance whether you can commit to keeping it. It's a living creature, a being, exactly like us but just a little more gifted with intuition and sharper faculties. So it's like a human being. Sometimes, when you look into their eyes, my God, you feel the message coming--they are equal... They are all beings. Just different, understand? Just like we're Chinese and you're American; he's a parrot and we're human. Do you understand my meaning? They're not lower than you are. Because they're so intelligent; they have intelligence. It's just that they don't need complicated computers like we do, because they're free. They fly, and they eat anything. Their life is freer. We humans do different things so we need more instruments...

Essence of Lecture

The law of God is "As you think, so shall you become." Keep thinking, keep thinking, until your thinking power becomes very strong, and then you are that...The power of creation is inside you, in your head, in your brain, in your mind. Because you are God, you have this creative power. So, you make yourself what you are. Cteate yourself with dignity, create yourself as a saint and create yourself as a Buddha. Keep creating until it becomes reality. Why do you think we become like this? Because we have been thinking and creating ourselves like this, until we become one. It takes time, but it happens. That's why we have to meditate every day, to create, recreate, recreate, remember, remember, remember, until we are as firm as our remembrance, as our original Self. Then we are sure that we are Buddha.

Topics addressed:

Why do some fellow initiates feel that they have made no progress since the time they were initiated? What is the solution to this problem?

People engaged in certain careers may find it hard to concentrate in meditation. Why? How can they overcome this difficulty?

In addition to questions and answers between Master and fellow disciples, this DVD is also full of Master's loving reminders. Attentively watching this DVD will help us to remember our saintly status, and remind us to always act in the noble, magnificent and holy manner of a saint.

Essence of Lecture

Q: How can we help others to overcome their addictions? M: Oh! Like drugs and alcohol? Well, just encourage them if they want to stop.

Most people drink because they have been habituated. Also, they feel life is so boring that they keep drinking. And the more they drink, the less activity they have. The less activity, the more they're bored. And so it continues like the devil's circle. Now, they have to substitute this habit for something better.

Sit down and think back as far as you can remember: What made you happy before? Who made you feel good? What place triggered the most interest, the best feeling in your life? Go there, if possible. Meet those people that have common interests, and are good for you, that make you feel confident, make you feel loved, supported, that make you feel like a buddy. And do the things that you used to do or you wanted to do, that make you geel good, or that you have already tested and done it, and that make you feel really good. You see? So go on for that thing, and busy yourself with all these interesting things, and interesting people and interesting places. And then you'll have no time to even think about alcohol.

What is the difference between the transformation body of Master that we see with our naked eyes, and the Inner Master that we see in meditation?

Why is it possible for someone to see Master's transformation body appear in flesh even in daily life?

In addition to Master's explicit discourse on these topics, many fellow initiates also share the incredible experiences of their own or relatives' encounters with Master's transformation body.
